Mad Men star and girlfriend of 18 years confirm their seperation

After 18 years together and months of speculation it has been confirmed that John Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt has broken up.

The pair released a statement on Monday that confirmed the rumours of their separation but did not provide any details of why they were breaking up.

'With great sadness, we have decided to separate, after 18 years of love and shared history,' the couple said in the joint statement. 

'We will continue to be supportive of each other in every way possible moving forward.”

44-year old John and 45-year old Jennifer who is both an actress and screenwriter have been together since 1997; they never married and have no children together.

In April of this year the pair were hit by rumours of their relationship ending when John entered a rehab facility for alcoholism. The news, originally reported by TMZ, was confirmed by the pair’s publicist before the final season Mad Men aired in the U.S

In the past John has admitted that playing the role of troubled Don Draper has taken a toll on him mentally:

“People ask, 'What's the difference between you and Don?' Look, I drink, I get drunk. I'm not immune to that.

'And (creator) Matt (Weiner) will tell you, the darkness in Don has not abated,” he told Variety earlier this year.

He added that while he loved his work and his co-stars, “it can be hard on you as a person.”
