Maleficent actor says he doesn’t believe in fairy tales
Actor Sam Riley says he doesn’t really believe in fairy tales as girls are no longer waiting to be “rescued” by a prince.
Well said, Sam!
The British actor stars alongside Angelina Jolie in Maleficent, which tells the back story of the villain in popular fairy tale Sleeping Beauty.
Sam said, “What I like about what they’ve done with this one, is it can work in harmony with the original.”
“They’ve not completely revamped the whole thing, electric guitar soundtracks and daft stuff like that… Some of the fairy tale messages are still true today, but we don’t live in a time where the little girl is waiting to be rescued by the prince. It’s more Spice Girls now; girl power,” he said.
The 34-year-old started off as a singer, but his breakthrough in film came when he played the lead role in 2007’s Control.
Oscar winner Angelina fought for Sam to be a part of Maleficent and it seems he’s a big fan of the actress!
“She was really very warm with me and the very first time I walked on set and I was there in costume, I was nervous and thought, ‘What am I doing here?’ but she made me feel relaxed,” said Sam.
