Another spoonful of sugar: Disney is making a VERY special sequel

by

We've seen the return of Willy Wonka, Alice in Wonderland and even Beauty and the Beast remake, but this latest revival has us very excited indeed.

Disney has announced plans to bring back one of their most beloved characters, the 'practically perfect' nanny, Mary Poppins.

The childhood favourite will be brought back in a new live-action sequel, set 20 years after the original and directed by Into The Woods mastermind Rob Marshall.

Mary's return will take place in Depression-era London, and while it won't follow on directly from the film, it will take storylines from the Mary Poppins books, written by PL Travers. As the original 1964 film only touched on the first book in a series of eight, there's plenty more fodder for a brand new plot line.

Anyone who has seen Saving Mr. Banks will know that the late PL Travers made life very difficult for Walt Disney during the creation of the first film, but the animation company is said to be "collaborating" with the author's estate this time around.

Sadly Julie Andrews most likely won't feature as Mary due to age and voice constraints, but we already have a few actresses in mind who could do the job…

Emily Blunt
We've seen her sing in Into The Woods, and she most definitely has the English Rose look down. We could totally get on board with Emzers in the title role.

Anne Hathaway
Another Devil Wears Prada alum, Anne certainly has the vocal chops required to take over from Julie Andrews. Anyone who's seen her sing in Les Miserables can attest to that. And she also has the 'annoyingly perfect' thing down like a pro.

Zooey Deschanel
Zooey's wacky vibes in New Girl could translate well to the world of magical nannies, if Disney are interested in making the role a bit edgier. And boy, can she sing.

Anna Kendrick
We already know she's Pitch Perfect, so there's no fear of Anna carrying a tune, and she would totally rock the prim and proper vibes, too.
