Miley Cyrus’ homeless date is wanted by police
Miley Cyrus made headlines earlier this week when she brought a homeless man as her date to the VMAs.
Jesse Helt made an emotional speech on stage at the awards about the struggles faced by homeless youths in the Hollywood area, as Miley looked on. However Jesse might not have been the best ambassador for Miley to choose, as it turns out he is actually currently wanted by police in his home state of Oregon. A warrant was issued back in 2011 for parole violation, and police are now aware of Jesse's whereabouts following his TV appearance. Oops.
The 22-year-old was arrested back in 2010 for a break-in, but the charge has since been lowered to criminal trespassing. Speaking to The Sun, Judicial Services Specialist Jon Troike said that Jesse "still has an outstanding warrant. If he's contacted by the police in Oregon he would be arrested."
Jesse landed in Salem, Oregon last night. Miley footed the $360 (€273) bill for his flight, so that he could see his mother for the first time in three years.
Miley's date was suited and booted on Sunday night at the VMAs, but his mug shot shows a different picture:
Jesse spoke about his troubled past during his speech, saying "I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving and lost and scared for their lives. I know, because I am one of those people… Though I may have been invisible to you on the streets I have a lot of the same dreams that brought many of you here tonight."
