Hurrah! ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ movie is now getting a TV series
My Best Friend's Wedding, starring Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz, has remained one of our favourite romantic comedy since its 1997 debut.
And now, ABC is giving the movie new life with a half-hour television show.
The TV network announced yesterday that Ron Bass, the movie's original writer, will write the show's script.
He's also joined by other original makers, including executive producers Jerry Zucker and Janet Zucker, as well as Mike Menchel – so we know the beloved rom-com will be done justice.
The Hollywood Reporter said that the new show will act as a sequel, focusing on Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts) and her life in New York City with her friend George (played by Rupert Everett).
As a quick refresher, the movie revolved around Julianne, whose best friend Michael (played by Dermot Mulroney) is getting married weeks before her 28th birthday, the age the two promised in college they'd marry each other if either weren't already taken. Her next (not very) logical step is to try to sabotage the wedding and confess her love to Michael.
While there's no word yet on when the show will air, we hope I Say A Little Prayer For You might just make the series opening sequence.
