Uzo Aduba has been opening up about her experience with motherhood.

The Orange is the New Black actress welcomed her first child, a baby girl named Adaiba, into the world in November of last year with her husband Robert Sweeting.

As she’s been settling into life with her daughter, Uzo has revealed what advice she learned from her own mum, who tragically passed away in November 2020.

While speaking with People, Uzo explained, “What I learned from my mother that I did not expect when I set out on this journey is that life is filled with so many stories. So many chapters”.

“So whatever moment, story you're living in right now, it is not the final story. That life is long. It is long and it has many different seasons and I learned that unexpectedly in the process of this book”.

The 43-year-old shared more of an insight into writing her new book The Road is Good by revealing, “The season I was in when I was writing this of loss and leaving is not the season that I'm in now, which is life and receiving”.

Uzo then spoke more about her relationship with her daughter and admitted that Adaiba is Robert’s ‘princess’.

“One of us has her wrapped around their finger and it's not me. That's his princess”, she teased.

“Her name literally means daughter of the kingdom, which makes her the daughter of the people. Everybody, because she's the first-born granddaughter. And so that's his princess”.

When marking her late mum’s birthday earlier this year, Uzo honoured her by penning a heartfelt tribute for her 2.1M Instagram followers.

The Painkiller star wrote, “My mother’s heavenly birthday. It’s today. This is from my wedding weekend and one of the best times of my life. Easily”.

“As a mommy myself now, knowing just the amount of work, thankless hours, and true joy and love it takes to be a mom, I hold my mom in even higher regard now than I ever did before”.

Uzo continued, “Thanks for showing me how to do this job. Lovingly. I was worried I wouldn’t know how because you weren’t here, but I’m steeped in so much of you. I see you in so many of the parts. I’m so grateful for that. Mommy. I love you and miss you. Till the chain links again”.
