Paul Costello facing criticism for his remarks about women

Irish designer Paul Costello is facing criticism after his stunt on The Late Late Show last night, after the 71-year-old made some comments about women that some online viewers found offensive.

When asked for his opinion on certain topics, the designer made some odd comments about women, or 'great girls.'

The fashion designer, who has a popular collaboration range at Dunnes Stores, commented that Rod Stewart’s wife was 'a bit gawky,' and stated that she was 'trying too hard to be the second or third wife.'

When asked about Camilla Parker Bowles' sense of style, he commented that she was 'very small,' but that she was being advised well on how to dress.

He also volunteered the information that he would 'definitely not swap' his wife for a chance with Camilla. He also referred to his wife as 'well bred.'

When asked by Ryan what he meant by his reference to certain women being 'hatchets,' Paul replied: 'A hatchet is a lovely girl who you really love for maybe a couple of weeks and then you go, "Ciao bella,"' before saying that he was a pro-woman designer.

He also said of his meeting with the late Princess Diana that he did not address her as a royal, but instead greeted her with a 'howaya honey, you're looking good.'

'Let me see how you’re looking, honey,' he told Princess Diana at the time.

He also referred to Victoria Beckham as a 'great little girl,' and said he believes she should 'smile a little more.'

He went on to compliment Kate Middleton on her 'great legs.'

Twitter was quick to react to the designer's comments, with one user referring to them as 'obnoxious.'
