Robin Williams found dead in his California home
Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams (63) was found dead in his California home yesterday morning after an apparent suicide.
A call was made to police at 11.55am local time, and emergency services arrived on the scene in five minutes. A statement from Marin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed:
“The male subject, pronounced dead at 12:02am, has been identified as Robin McLaurin Williams, a 63-year-old resident of unincorporated Tiburon.”
It is thought that Williams’ death was a suicide due to asphyxia, but an investigation has yet to be carried out.
The actor is said to have been struggling with severe depression.
His wife Susan Schneider said in a statement: “This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”
Our thoughts go out to Robin’s family and friends at this awful time.
