Saoirse Ronan stars in trailer for new World War II movie ‘Blitz’

Saoirse Ronan is set to star in an Apple Original film set during World War II.

Blitz is a drama written and directed by Academy and BAFTA Award-winning Steve McQueen.

The trailer for the poignant film has now been released and shares an insight into the emotional tale that is in-store for viewers.

With the chilling sounds of air raid sirens ringing out in the background, we see a young boy named George witness bombs being dropped first-hand.

“So how the hell did you end up here?”, the boy is asked as more destruction takes place around him.

“My mum sent me away”, he explains before a soldier tells him, “She did it to keep you safe”.

As we get a first look at Ronan in the film, she states, "You’re responsible for his safety. Why can’t you tell me where’s my boy?”.

More scenes of falling bombs, evacuations and George trying to get home to his mum follow before the trailer ends.

The tagline for the film is, “A boy’s journey. A mother’s love. Miles of burning city between them”, so we already know this is going to be a tear-jerker.

The official synopsis of Blitz reads, “Sir Steve McQueen’s ‘Blitz’ follows the epic journey of George (Elliott Heffernan), a 9-year-old boy in World War II London whose mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) sends him to safety in the English countryside”.
