Saoirse Ronan to host iconic US sketch show Saturday Night Live
Saturday Night Live is preparing for an Irish takeover with Saoirse Ronan and U2 both set to appear on the legendary US sketch show.
The programme, which sees a new guest host take over every week, announced last night that the 23-year-old Irish actress would present the December 2 edition, with U2 as her musical guests.
SNL is notorious for its short sketches that offer a comedic look into contemporary culture and America's political landscape.

Its large and varying cast comprises of some of Hollywood's top talents including Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, Jane Curtin, John Belushi, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray and Mike Myers.
The coveted role will come as a welcome break for Saoirse who has been busy promoting her latest film Ladybird.
The comedy-drama has earned huge praise from critics so far, boasting a perfect 100 per cent score on review website Rotten Tomatoes.
And although the film will not hit Irish cinemas until February of the next year, Saoirse's performance has already sparked Oscar buzz ahead of the 2018 award season.
Fingers crossed it's third time lucky to the two-time Academy Award nominee.
