Seven ways to make a small room look big
They say the best things come in small packages, and this is true even for rooms. They’re cosy, aren’t they? However, if you want to make it LOOK as if the package isn’t quite so small (even if it IS great) then here are some tips on how to make a small room look bigger:
Curtains
Get curtains that are the same colour as the wall – it creates the illusion of there being more wall space. And who doesn’t want more wall space?
Sofas and armchairs
Go for sofas and armchairs that are raised on legs to create the illusion of space and light.
Colous
Go for light and neutral colours. Dark colours will make the room seem more closed in.
Don’t fill up every nook and cranny
Stuffing every shelf with loads of stuff because your down and in a strange space, will make your room look like it’s too small to hold everything. The solution? De-clutter, de-clutter, de-clutter.
Furniture that bends and folds
Go for a table that can be made bigger and smaller, or furniture that can be folded up and rolled away. This way when you don’t need it, it won’t be taking up space.
From the ceiling to the floor
If you can, install a bookshelf that goes from the ceiling to the floor is good for making your room look as if it has a really high ceiling.
Mirrors
