Stars tweet condolences as footballer’s wife passes away
Stars have taken to their social media channels today to send their condolences to footballer Rio Ferdinand, whose wife Rebecca Ellison has passed away.
The former Manchester United and England international footballer released a statement this morning, revealing that his wife had lost her battle with breast cancer.
“My soul mate slipped away last night. Rebecca, my wonderful wife, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London,” wrote Ferdinand.
Paying tribute to his wife, he added: “She was a fantastic loving mother to our three beautiful children. She will be missed as a wife, sister, aunt, daughter and granddaughter. She will live on in our memory, as a guide and inspiration.”
A number of celebrities took to Twitter to express their sadness over the news.

Wayne Rooney’s wife Coleen wrote: “Can’t believe I am actually writing this, absolutely devastated to hear the news about Rebecca. Our thoughts and prayers are with Rio.”
Meanwhile former JLS singer Marvin Humes tweeted: “Absolutely devastated to hear the news of Rio’s wife Rebecca. So so sad. My family’s thoughts and prayers are with all yours bro. RIP.”
Rebecca and Rio have three young children together.
