So, not only are millennials consuming less alcohol than previous generations, but they actually think getting drunk is “pathetic and embarrassing,” a UK study has found.

As part of the research, Eventbrite surveyed 1,023 millennials about their relationship with alcohol – and the results were somewhat unexpected.

On average, millennials drink a responsible five units of alcohol a week, while only one in 10 thought getting drunk was “cool.”

And while these figures reflect a positive emphasis on health and well-being among young people, we can't help but feel a little surprised.

The survey also found that in general, millennials view excessive drinking as something “belonging to an older generation.”

What's more, results showed that 70 per cent of participants would rather brag about how long it's been since their last drink, than about how drunk they got last weekend.

And it looks like some classic hangover cures are changing too.

The hair of the dog is out, and it super-charged vegan smoothie is in, with most saying they would prefer not to drink alcohol the morning after the night before.

Researchers reckon this new-found lack of interest can be blamed on two things:

Number one – Millennials are obsessed with 'living in the moment' and creating memories (which can be difficult to do after four tequila shots).

And, number two – Rather than turning to alcohol, young people are instead choosing to talk openly about their mental health issues.

So, while a sudden decline in the interest of alcohol might come as a surprise to some, the obvious benefits are hard to argue with.

After all, who wouldn't want to live a happier, more memorable, hangover-free life?

It might seem like John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are the epitome of true love and happy families, but as we know, even the strongest relationships come with their fair share of struggles.

From fertility issues to drinking problems, John spoke openly about his personal life in a revealing interview published in Cosmopolitan this week.

The 38-year-old singer and Chrissy, 31, have been married since 2013 and last year welcomed the arrival of their first daughter, Luna, conceived thanks to IVF.

Speaking about their fertility struggle, John admitting that having a baby is “a big challenge for a couple” – made especially difficult when you “can't conceive naturally.”

“You want to feel like everything’s working properly and want everything to be perfect, but sometimes it’s not. I wouldn’t say we can’t conceive naturally, but I would say that it’s enough of a challenge where it felt like we needed help,” he said.

John also addressed comments made by Chrissy last month when she opened up about her decision to cut back on drinking.

“When she was thinking about how she wanted to drink less, we talked about it. I just want to support her. I want her to be happy and to live the fullest, most awesome life she can, and I want us to do it together.”

When asked about his reputation as the “perfect spouse”, the All Of Me singer admitted he that while he was flattered by the label, his relationship is not always perfect.

“I think that’s awesome. I don’t want to present myself as the “perfect spouse” and I don’t want to present our relationship as the “perfect relationship” because I don’t think anybody meets that definition. I think it’s too much pressure to put on anyone.”

“I think it should be cool to be a good partner, a good spouse, a good father, and/or a good parent. If I’m one of the people who helps make that cooler, I think that’s great.”

He finished off the interview with some words of wisdom for his younger self, admitting he wished he had taken more risks – but really, we reckon everything tuned out just fine for the Grammy award winner.

It is no secret that we love a good G&T here at SHEmazing HQ, and our penchant for unicorns probably hasn't gone unnoticed either.

So imagine our delight when we discovered that there is a unicorn gin out there in the world.

Unicorn Tears Gin Liqueur combines two of our favourite things, and we need it in our lives.

The pretty pastel bottle has an added extra we can't get enough of – iridescent sparkles distilled in with the gin.

So as well as just having adorable packaging, the gin itself has hints of unicorn magic to it.

Described as a sweeter gin, it has notes of juniper (duh), candied orange and herbs.

'Citrusy on the nose, the palate is luscious and flavoursome with an indulgent sweetness and flavours of candied orange, herbs and spice,' reads the notes description.

You can purchase the mythical substance from Firebox (though they don't ship to Ireland, so you may need to Parcel Motel it over) or from Harvey Nichols.

We'll be taking ten bottles, thanks.

As Hollywood A-listers go, Chrissy Teigen is an open book.

From sharing photos of her stretchmarks to opening up about her struggle with postnatal depression, the model, presenter and bestselling author has always tried to be as transparent as possible with her legions of fans and followers.

And if a recent interview with Cosmopolitan is anything to go by, Chrissy no longer wants to conceal the fact she has, in the past, struggled with alcohol consumption.

A post shared by chrissy teigen (@chrissyteigen) on

In the revealing chat with the well-known publication, Chrissy confirmed she is actively seeking to reduce her alcohol intake, and admits that she is often unable to stop at just one drink.

“I was, point blank, just drinking too much,” she said. “I got used to being in hair and makeup and having a glass of wine."

“Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show. And then a bunch at the awards show," she continued.

The 31-year-old admits that her behaviour while under the influence of alcohol has caused both her and her husband, John Legend, embarrassment in the past.

"I felt bad for making kind of an a** of myself to people that I really respected. And that feeling, there’s just nothing like that. You feel horrible. It’s not a good look for me, for John, for anybody," she admitted.

Interestingly, no one from Chrissy's camp felt the need to broach the topic with her, and she believes that is due to the fact, she was able to function the following morning.

"They just assumed that it was OK because I always felt OK the next morning. I knew in my heart it wasn’t right. It makes you very short with people."

The mother-of-one admits that her newfound respect for alcohol would not have sat well with her in the past, but she's at the point where she knows cutting back is the right thing to do.

"I used to think it was kind of nutty to have to go totally sober,” she said. “But now I get it. I don’t want to be that person… I have to fix myself."

Fair play to her.

If you've ever blamed your failing memory on your G&T habit, you may be talking absolute nonsense if recent research is anything to go by.

According to a study conducted in the University of Exeter, alcohol consumption can actually help to improve your short-term memory.

Don't worry; we'll wait while you pick yourself off the floor.

OK, ready?

So, researchers used 88 participants, 57 of whom were female, to investigate the hypothesis, and ultimately discovered that individuals who consumed alcohol prior to memory tasks performed better than those who didn't.

The group, who were aged between 18 and 53, were required to learn information from the comfort of their own homes before one half of the group went for a night of drinking.

The following day both groups convened, and researchers quickly established that those who had consumed an average of four alcohol units the night before were more capable of regurgitating the information they had learned the day before than their teetotal counterparts.

"Our research not only showed that those who drank alcohol did better when repeating the word-learning task, but that this effect was stronger among those who drank more," said Professor Celia Morgan of the University of Exeter.

“The causes of this effect are not fully understood, but the leading explanation is that alcohol blocks the learning of new information and therefore the brain has more resources available to lay down other recently learned information into long-term memory."

“The theory is that the hippocampus – the brain area really important in memory – switches to ‘consolidating’ memories, transferring from short into longer-term memory."

Researchers who conducted the study, which has been published in Scientific Reports, are "keen to stress that this limited positive effect should be considered alongside the well-established negative effects of excessive alcohol on memory and mental and physical health."

Fair enough.

If there's one thing sure to raise blood pressure on a particular Thursday every year, it's the realisation that getting your hands on booze the following day will be next to impossible unless a forward-thinking friend had the foresight to stock up.

However, the Good Friday alcohol ban, which has been in place for 90 years, may soon become a thing of the past after the Seanad today passed a bill which called for the sale of alcohol on the religious holiday.

According to emerging reports, the bill was passed unanimously after the Government amended the new law to ensure it would not only apply to hotels, but pubs as well.

Commenting on the passing of The Intoxicating Liquor (Amendment) Bill, Senator Billy Lawless, said: "In my mind, the passage of today's bill is another progressive step in Ireland's long journey in the separation of church and State."

"It is understandable when lawmakers try to introduce legislation that changes a practice that has been in place for almost 100 years, people pause to reflect, yet this is what lawmaking is about."

"There is an affinity to the closed day but that affinity is in fact leading to alcohol abuse in many case," he added.

The legislation will be debated in the Dail following its summer break.

Pre-flight pints could soon be a thing of the past as authorities in the Balearic Islands seek a ban on the sale of alcohol on board planes and in airports.

Tourism executives in Ibiza and Magaluf have asked the European Union to implement stricter rules when in comes to the consumption of alcohol while flying in an effort to battle anti-social tourism.

Pilar Carbonell, Head of Tourism for the islands, wrote in a statement:  "We ask the central government and the European commission to ban the consumption of alcoholic drinks on flights and in airports."

"The aim of the measure is to improve passenger security and also that of security forces in planes and airports in our islands, who are often faced with drunk passengers."

However, it's not yet clear whether the local authorities are seeking to ban drink on all EU flights or just those destined for the Balearic Islands.

According to reports, holiday makers at Dublin airport were not in favour of the strict rule.

"I only misbehave when I don't have a drink," said one.

Another frustrated flyer told Newstalk radio:  "Sure you have to have a drink when you are going on your holidays."

Let us all admit this: we hate breaking the seal.

You're having a laugh with your besties at happy hour and the last thing you want to do is queue up for 20 minutes in the ladies' loos.

But, unfortunately it has to be done. And done again, and again, and again, until you basically spend the whole night in the womens' toilets.

However, now an urology physician assistant, Aleece Fosnight, has revealed what actually happens when it's go time, and why it's super important to go to the loo while drinking alcohol.

So, first of all, Aleece says that there's actually no seal to break – but we definitely have to pee more when we drink booze.

Alcohol suppresses vasopressin, which is an anti-diuretic hormone in our brains.

On a regular day, this hormone helps our bodies absorb water so we're not going to the toilet constantly. But when we drink alcohol, our kidneys don't know that to do, so they just end up dumping water rather than reabsorbing it.

"This produces a lot more water-diluted urine, which, in turn, fills up the bladder faster, making you urinate more often," the urologist explains.

Alcohol can take up to 20 minutes to block vasopressin, so by the time you feel like you ned to break the seal, "the alcohol is in full swing and blocking a significant amount of that hormone."

And therefore, "more alcohol, more blockage, more pee."

Aleece recommends going to the loo the minute you have the urge, because if you don't, it'll just make you really uncomfortable.

And always drink water at the end of the night, so your kidneys will know what to do in the morning and it will *hopefully* prevent a hangover.

So, it's no secret that we Irish like the odd drink or two, but how much alcohol are we actually consuming compared to our European counterparts?

Researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) collaborated with colleagues from more than 40 European countries, and have finally come up with a clear answer.

As part of the  European Social Survey, a large study conducted every two years in around 30 European countries, researchers asked almost 2000 participant's questions based on their health, lifestyle and drinking habits.

Rather unsurprisingly, the Irish were found to drink the most overall, while Portugal and Britain topped the list when it came to binge-drinking.

Terje Andreas Eikemo, professor of sociology at NTNU, explained how these findings will help identify the measures that need to be taken in order to curb alcohol consumption.

"In the past, we could say that drinking alcohol and smoking affect people's health, for example. Now we can go farther back in the causal chain, and identify where measures should be taken."

The study also confirmed a link between social status and excessive alcohol consumption.

"Overall alcohol consumption is highest in the upper social strata, but binge drinking is most common in the lower social strata,'' he explains.

What's more, European men were found to have consumed almost twice as many units of alcohol as women, with women in Israel and Central and Eastern Europe found to drink the least.

Have you ever realised that you have no wine for the Easter weekend and have to dash to the shop, only to remember that it's Good Friday so you're stranded, wine-less for 24 hours?

Well, this Easter predicament will soon come to an end.

The Government is making moves to abolish the 90-year-old ban which prevents Irish stores from selling alcohol on Good Friday.

The Irish Times is reporting that the Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald is expected not to oppose the bill.

Unfortunately, the change is likely to come into effect for Good Friday 2018, so we're still banned from buying a beverage this Easter Friday.

The lift is being welcomed by most Irish folk.

"Finally, no more forcing businesses and citizens to adhere to religious practice against their will," tweeted one.

"Abolishing the Good Friday ban is such a significant step towards separation of church and state. Brilliant news," said another.

With Coachella just around the corner, we've been reminiscing about the ways we used attempt to sneak alcohol around a festival, unbeknownst to the crew guarding the main arenas.

Unsurprisingly, we opted for simpler methods such as cans in our hoods or the infamous crouching tiger hidden naggin method, which were often discovered after a quick pat down.

Since then, there have been some pretty inventive drink-smuggling methods created for those of us brave enough to sneak drink around the place, and we've rounded up a few of the most ridiculous.

 5. The banana flask

This banana flask may not be the most realistic thing we've ever seen, but if this was stashed at the bottom of your bag, those drink-checkers may just think you have a healthy snack on board to keep those crucial energy levels up.

4. The sneaky umbrella

This one is particularly devious, as who would even think to accuse the humble umbrella of liaising with the demon drink?

The only problem is, this umbrella is not a functioning tool, so if you're at a rainy festival, you may have to forego your own brolly to avoid suspicion.

3. In your camera… your fake camera.

A flask shaped like a camera has been invented, and it's pretty genius if you ask us.

The sneaky novelty flask would definitely get past security, as long as they didn't pick it up and discover that it's weirdly heavy and making a sloshing sound.

2. The sneaky scarf

The infinity scarf may not be the trendiest fashion item in the world right now, but if that doesn't bother you then this flask could be for you.

1. The tampons

A complete classic, the tampon flask utilises the worldwide fear of periods to its advantage by hosting vials of alcohol in individual tampon wrappers.

We always have a few tampons rolling around our bags, so why shouldn't one or two be filled with wine?

Luckily, most Irish festivals allow booze in the campsites so we don't have to stoop to such extreme measures as some of our American counterparts, but these flasks would make a pretty great gift for the festival lover in your life.
