One more thing to be grateful for; The Great British Bake Off is going to be back on our screens later this year for season 11. This year’s filming came with a whole host of challenges due to COVID-19 and social distancing rules, however, show producers were determined to make it work, and we couldn’t be more excited!

The Great British Bake Off confirmed on Instagram last week that filming for their latest series has wrapped and that more news will be coming soon. Kieran Smith, Creative Director for Love Productions, the production company behind Bake Off, said in an interview with Broadcast, “So many people rely on Bake Off for work that we knew we had to work out a plan”.

Smith explained that the entire cast and crew had to isolate separately for nine days and take three tests for coronavirus, before they all formed a bubble together, isolating in a hotel rented by production in the South-East. The cast, crew, hotel staff, around 20 children, chaperones and dog walkers, all stayed in lockdown together for over six weeks of filming, in order to avoid having to social distance.

“It was a massive operation, we even [built] 12 practice kitchens for the bakers to use on their days off. It felt like the safest place in Britain,” described Smith.

Throughout the entire “gruelling” process, they only had one coronavirus scare, which turned out to be just that, nothing more than a scare.

It has also been revealed that the famous baking show will be getting a new co-host for the upcoming season, following the departure of Sandy Toksvig. Little Britain comedian, Matt Lucas is joining the show as Noel Fielding’s hosting partner.

After having quite an intense Bake Off introduction, Smith commented, “He was practically living with the bakers. It felt like he had always been there.”

The five-part series is set to air later this year in a bid to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.

Four celebrities will compete against one another for the title of ‘star baker’ in each episode. There will be three rounds: Signature, Technical, and Showstopper in every episode and we honestly cannot see what type of culinary delights these celebrities whip up.

The air date for The Great Celebrity Bake Off has yet to be confirmed but keep your eyes peeled!

Derry Girls and The Great British Bake Off bring such joy into our lives and now our two favourite shows are teaming up.

The cast of Lisa McGee’s hilarious series are set to show off their baking skills on a very special episode of Bake Off.

Nicola Coughlan, who plays our favourite wee lesbian Clare, confirmed the news on Instagram this evening and we may burst with the excitement.

The Great Festive Bake Off will see actors Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’ Donnell, Dylan Llewellyn and Siobhan McSweeney channel their inner Mary Berry.

Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig will host the show and help guide the cast of Derry Girls through their baking challenge.

The show’s judges will also be there to crown the champion. Let’s just hope the cast are better at baking than their characters are.

You can catch the Derry Girls/Great British Bake Off crossover episode on Channel 4 on New Year’s Day.

It's that time of year again – The Great British Bake Off addiction is well and truly underway.

Amateur bakers around the country have been spurred on to give cake making a go, after being inspired by the weekly show.

After almost burning down the kitchen for the fifth week running, we've decided to leave it to the self-professionals that grace our screens every week.

And I say self-professionals as Paul Hollywood has been dishing out his famous handshakes this season right, left and centre.

The handshake is no longer the sacred holiness that the amateur bakers tremble and shed a tear at.

At this stage, it's almost a shock to both audience and contestants alike if we make it a whole episode without Paul extending the hand.

Rightly so, Paul has been burnt on Twitter for his looseness with his Hollywood handshakes.

The 52-year-old has been forced to defend his actions and told viewers to expect a change for the rest of Bake off.

On The Jonathan Ross Show Paul explained why he was so generous with the shake: "I've taken a bit of flack over [it]. The handshake came from when [bakes] looked very professional and they almost cross that line from being amateur to professional."

"Every year the standard has got better and better and better and this year has been phenomenal. Some of the flavours they are bringing out. Rahul's stuff has been incredible."

Thankfully, we won't have to endure too many shakes, as the celeb chef said: "you will see it happen, the handshakes almost stop. Because what I've done is I've realised they are all moving up in standard so I've got to move my barrier up so that's exactly what I do, I raise the bar and then no one gets over the top of it."

In reply to the stick he received on Twitter, Paul said: "What you're forgetting which is crucial is the general standard of baking/bakers has risen year on year… this is reflected in any praise given."

Regardless if you love or hate the handshakes – we will definitely be tuning into the Bake Off tonight and criticising cakes we could only dream of making, heavily defending our favourites and drooling over Rahul's flawless bakes.

With the devastating news of Mary Berry’s departure from Bake Off shaking fans everywhere today, we thought we’d take a look back at some of Mary’s best bits.

Now while there was much to love about the GBBO judge, there was one thing about the 81-year-old that will stand the test of time; those innuendos.

They may not have been intentional but they were the gift that kept on giving and here’s some of our favourites from her six years on the show.

Beloved Great British Bake Off presenter Sue Perkins revealed this week that she has been living with a brain tumour.

The TV personality opened up about the tumour, which thankfully is benign but has prevented her from being able to have children, in the new issue of Good Housekeeping.

"I’m lucky that it’s benign so it’s not in itself a worrying thing," Sue said of the growth, discovered eight years ago during a health check-up during filming for another TV show.

"Sometimes it’s big and makes me mad, and sometimes it’s small and is in the background. Sometimes it screws up my hormones. I have various tests now to make sure the side effects aren’t too onerous."

Back in 2007, Sue was filming a show called The Supersizers in which she ate foods from different eras, with doctors conducting tests to see how they affected her body. Luckily this meant the tumour was discovered in good time, as the 45-year-old confesses she had been neglecting her healthy in many other ways.

"I was at a point where I was spending so much of my life doing TV that I only found out about my real life through a television procedure. I didn’t have the time to go to the doctor in real life," she admits.

And while the growth on Sue pituitary gland is not life-threatening, the fact that it has affected the production of various reproductive hormones and in turn her fertility has not been easy to digest. Sue admits that it became particularly tough to cope with when her Bake Off co-star Mel Giedroyc became pregnant for the first time.

"When she [Mel] had her first child I thought: this is an experience I won’t have or share. You’ve gone somewhere I can’t go. You think it is going to destroy something, but actually it hasn’t destroyed anything – we have very different lives and different experiences now."

Sue and Mel's friendship spans 27 years. The pair meeting for the first time while studying at Cambridge University and went on to star in the comedy troupe Footlights together.

"I don't know if I would have gone on to have children," Sue admits. "But as soon as someone says you can't have something, you want it more than anything."
