Think of Barbie and you probably think of tiny clothing, long hair (not to mention even longer legs) and pink – LOTS of pink and Barbie definitely go hand-in-hand.

But over the last number of years, one particular doll has undergone a rather drastic transformation.

The result? The delightfully addictive Hipster Barbie Instagram account – which operates from the handle @SocalityBarbie

Boasting some 1million fans, it offers the everyday gal oh-so aspirational locations – not to mention plenty of inspirational quotes.

Our favourites? "Work for a cause, not for applause. Live life to express, not to impress. Don't strive to make your presence noticed just make your absence felt."

"It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves."

"Humble enough to know I'm not better than anybody wise enough to know that I'm different from the rest."

Hear, hear, Hipster Barbie. Hear, hear.

The woman behind the account, which was only set up at the beginning of this year, is a wedding photographer based in the painfully-hipster Portland, Oregon.

And although she wishes to remain anonymous – to preserve Socality Barbie’s authenticity – she did tell The Huffington Post: "I created SB purely for my and my friends enjoyment.

"It was a light-hearted and fun way to poke fun at all the people who used the 'Socality' and 'LiveAuthentic' hashtags.

"People were taking the same pictures in the same places and using the same 'inspirational' captions.

"How can you be authentic and inspiration when you follow the crowd? I thought using a mass-produced doll would be the best way to make that point."

In lieu of her usual bright and breezy California-inspired attire, Hipster Barbie wears thickly-rimmed glasses, a dark woollen hat, a grey utility jacket, and jeans.

She is seen enjoying the sights and sounds of nature, reading the New York Times while drinking espresso, and looking wistfully out at the rain.

She hasn't entirely forgotten her roots, however: one recent snap shows Socality Barbie hanging out with her blonde counterpart.

"Having coffee with this gem," she writes. "Can I just say how amazing this girl is?! She keeps me grounded and inspires me to live my best authentic life.

"So glad we are in community together. I just wish she didn't live all the way in LA."

It seems like Moschino designer Jeremy Scott isn't the only one to embrace their inner Barbie girl.

All-around amazing footwear fanatic Sophia Webster has taken a page from the book of pop-culture in her latest capsule shoe collection.

The range is inspired by the iconic doll herself – the very one who has always boasted a wardrobe to make Anna Wintour jealous.

It features a range of heels, sandals, pumps and flats (because Barbie can wear flat shoes now). And it is certainly everything you would expect it to be.

Collaborating with Mattel's Barbie doll, the footwear dons all the girlish adornments, shine, sparkle and shades of pink that are her signature colour.

Sophia is obviously a Barbie fan as she seems very excited about her new footwear collection.

"Creating a shoe collection for Barbie has always been my dream project, but getting to be a part of her embracing flats for the first time made it extra exciting and deeply personal."

"I love that this concept strikes a balance between dreams and reality".

This really is a match made in Barbie Dreamhouse heaven as the whimsical, girly and imaginative designs are perfectly girly.

Make-up artist Kandee Johnson has just seriously impressed us with her quick transformations into Barbie and Ruby Rose.

Kandee is known for transforming her face to look like certain celebrities, but this time she has blown our minds.

The make-up artist uploaded a 90 second time-lapse video in which she makes herself look identical to Barbie.

Using a serious amount of contouring, fake eyelashes, blue contact lenses, some vibrant pink lippy and a blonde wig, she would definitely give the Human Barbie doll a run for her money!

When becoming a Ruby Rose look alike, Kandee goes for a more natural make-up look, using contouring to give her face more structure, with minimal mascara and green contacts this time. She copies the neck tattoo of the OITNB star and looks exactly like her.

Kandee has added more than 2million YouTube subscribers and has also become the twin of Kylie Jenner, Angelina Jolie and Elsa from Frozen.

We need her to show us a thing or two!

Hurrah! A doll has finally been released based on realistic body proportions and the public are DYING to get their hands on it!

The Lammily doll, which has also been called the ‘normal’ Barbie, is a true-to-life depiction of real life women and the quirks and features that help shape them.

Sporting tattoos, freckles, acne, stretch marks and even the ability to blush, this doll, now available to purchase online, is certainly a welcome change!

Motivated to see what a Barbie would like with average body proportions, graphic designer turned toymaker Nickolay Lamm set about designing her based on data and statistics from the Centres for Disease Control.

Commenting on the groundbreaking creation, Nickolay says: “I wanted to show reality is cool. I knew it was either going to bomb or blow up!”

Attempting (and succeeding!) to challenge beauty stereotypes, Nickolay has officially delivered the type of doll that should have been on the market for years!

She may technically be 55 years old, but there are benefits to being made entirely of plastic, as Barbie still looks as youthful as ever.

She’s giving style bloggers and It-girls a run for their money at the moment with a new Instagram account, launched just in time for the Fashion Weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris. Oh, she’s attending all of them, of course. We’ve never been jealous of a doll before, but her collection of handbags is totally enviable!
She’s got all the fashion Instagrammer tricks down, from flat-lays to #OOTDs:

And what style queen could live without her iPad? For posting selfies on the fly, of course.

There haven’t been many posts yet but we’re expecting a deluge of pics with the likes of Cara Delevingne and Anna Wintour over the next few weeks – only the best for Barbie!

Finally the dreams we had as five-year-olds (and stopped having as nine-year-olds) can come true.

Mattel, the company that owns Barbie, are working with Forever 21 and other brands to release a line of clothing modelled on Barbie’s clothes.

The clothes will focus on the fashions that Barbie wore in different eras, from the classic 1950s and ‘60s to the oh-so-popular ‘90s fashions.

The new Barbie products will range from pyjamas to day wear to cosmetics. You’ll be able to buy denim, swim suits and sunglasses, and even a life-size replica of the ‘80s Malibu Barbie look.

The collections will be released in the States in September, with no word yet of an Irish release date.

This is all part of Mattel’s plan to reinvent Barbie’s image for the 21st century, with a Karl Lagerfeld designed doll announced last month.

Karl Lagerfeld knows no bounds when it comes to the fashion world. So much so, the Chanel designer is constantly surprising us when it comes to his latest ventures.

And now Karl is entering a completely different territory by creating a Barbie doll of himself!

This autumn, toy giant Mattel Inc will be collaborating with the Chanel designer to create a limited edition doll as part of the Barbie Collector series. Makes sense!

Kim Culmone, Global VP of Barbie product design, said, “It’s not every day that Barbie dresses like the world’s most famous fashion designer.”

That may be true but we’re not sure how many people would want to buy the doll version of the iconic designer?
