The Voice UK returns for a fifth season early next year, but one notable face will be missing from the judging panel… Welsh music legend Tom Jones.

Tom took to Facebook earlier this month to express his disappointment after he was abruptly axed from the show in favour of Boy George, something the BBC informed him of just 24 hours before the new line-up went public.

While the broadcasting company first defended their decision, saying "no role was ever promised," one BBC director has spoken out to apologise to the singer.

"I've got huge respect for Tom and I'm truly sorry he's upset, because I am a big fan of his," BBC's director of television Danny Cohen said. "I think he's a gentleman, I think he's an extraordinary figure in music and you'll have seen the huge respect that all of the artists have had for him on The Voice throughout."

Danny added that he hoped Tom would be returning for a new project with the BBC "very soon."

In his original statement on Facebook, Tom accused BBC execs of "sub-standard behaviour" for not informing him of the line-up changes well ahead of time.

"In good faith, as part of the team, I’d put the time in my schedule to be involved in Series 5, as I’ve done so for the last 4 years. I’ve supported the show and the BBC since the beginning. I was told yesterday, with no consultation or conversation of any kind, that I would not be returning," he explained.

"Having been through plenty of transformations throughout the years, I support and admire creative change. But being informed, as a matter of duty and respect, is an important part of creative relationships. This sub-standard behaviour from the executives is very disappointing."

Former coaches will.i.am and Ricky Wilson will return to the line-up this year, with Paloma Faith and Boy George taking over from Rita Ora and Tom.

With the latest series of The Great British Bake Off now upon us (it starts on BBC1 on Wednesday!) our lives are about to get a whole lot sweeter.

Still, while we enjoy very much eating cake – actually making it ourselves can be less than delicious.

Weighing, measuring, folding and separating: in short, baking seems like a lot of hard work.

Fear not, however! We’ve stumbled across the PERFECT solution for the lazy baker: cake in a mug.

A handful of ingredients, a large mug, your microwave – and hey presto! in minutes you’ve whipped up a yummy, moist cake without even a hint of a soggy bottom.

Yes, you will basically be Mary Berry meets Cake Boss… on a good day.

Here, we round up our three absolute favourites for you to try right now.

The classic:

  • 4 tbsp self raising flour
  • 4 tbsp caster sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 medium egg
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Vanilla or almond essence (just a few drops)
  • 2 tbsp chocolate chips/nuts/raisins (or all three!)
  1. Use the absolute largest mug you have.
  2. Add the flour, sugar and cocoa powder to the mug and mix with a fork.
  3. Add the egg to the mixture and mix again.
  4. Add all the other ingredients apart from the chocolate chips, nuts or raisins and combine until smooth.
  5. Finally, add the chocolate chips, nuts, and/or raisins.
  6. Depending on the size of your mug, you might want to tip out some excess mix if it looks like it’s going to overflow.
  7. Centre your mug in the middle of the microwave oven and cook on high for 4-5 mins, or until it has stopped rising and is firm to the touch.
  8. Remove and tip onto a plate before devouring.

Oreo chocolate:

  • 30g butter
  • 15g of milk chocolate
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp single cream
  • Vanilla extract
  • 4 tbsp plain flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 3 broken Oreo biscuits – plus one for decoration
  1. Get your giant mug and in it melt the butter with the chocolate in the microwave for 30 to 40 seconds
  2. Beat the mixture until smooth and allow it to cool slightly.
  3. One by one, whisk in the egg, cream, vanilla extract, flour and baking powder.
  4. Add the broken Oreos without stirring too much.
  5. Cook in the microwave for about 90 seconds.
  6. Remove and decorate with the broken Oreo.
  7. Allow to cool for a minute before eating and enjoying.

Peanut butter chocolate:

  • 30g butter
  • 30g of dark chocolate
  • 1½ tsp peanut butter – plus 1 tsp extra
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp soft brown sugar
  • 5 tbsp plain flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  1. Get your giant mug and melt the butter with the chocolate in the microwave for 30–40 seconds.
  2. Beat the mixture until smooth, then allow it to cool slightly.
  3. One by one, whisk in the peanut butter, egg, sugar, flour and baking powder.
  4. Cook in the microwave for around 50 seconds.
  5. Push the additional spoonful of peanut butter into the middle and cook for a further 40 seconds.
  6. Allow to cool for one minute before eating.
  7. Repeat as hunger dictates!

Fans of The Graham Norton Show will be devastated to hear that its host, Graham Norton is considering retiring in the not so distant future.

The 52-year-old Cork native admitted that he wants to retire well before he turns 60. Speaking to his Radio 2 co-presenter Maria McErlane, Graham explained that, “You want to get out when people are still watching your show.”

“The thing nobody wants to do is the inching backwards, where you are going, ‘Yes the cast of TOWIE can come on.’ I’m not jumping tomorrow but it is in my head.”

The former Father Ted star has had his own chat show for 18 years. The BBC show has ran since 2007. His popular couch has sat many of the world’s biggest stars, from Robert de Niro, to Russel Crowe and Sandra Bullock.

He explains how he wouldn’t consider continuing the show if he could no longer get the best guests, which he says, is unfortunately inevitable at some point.

“When it comes to chat show wars, yes you always try and bag the biggest guests and at the moment we do seem to be having a good run of it. But these things go in cycles. That will turn and change.”

From Mark Wahlberg caressing Graham’s chest, to the sexy trio of Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Hugh Jackman dancing to Blurred Lines and of course, the infamous red chair, this is one show that we would be devastated to say goodbye to.

And yes, this IS Michelle Keegan and NOT her Hollywood doppelgänger that we are talking about.

The 28-year-old newlywed has just landed the role of Georgia Lane in BBC1’s drama, Our Girl. Michelle’s new lead role as Georgia will see her playing a female army medic in Kenya.

That is certainly a long way from the Rovers Return Inn!

The show is going into its second season, and Michelle is taking over the role from actress Lacey Turner.

A spokesperson for BBC told the Sunday People that, “It won’t be an easy posting as she has to earn the love and trust of her fellow soldiers, and the greater respect of her commanding officer, while working alongside aid workers in the world’s biggest refugee camp.”

BBC execs were reportedly very impressed with Ms Keegan’s acting skills on Ordinary Lies, where she played a drug mule.

A source from BBC explained their casting choice, saying that the former Corrie star is “talented and hugely popular.”

It’s a good thing that Michelle and new hubby Mark Wright enjoyed their honeymoon because it looks like she is in for some seriously hard work!

Live television can be a dangerous thing, but BBC reporter Peter Henley knows how to handle himself… even when he gets hit with a snowball live on air!

In a show of true professionalism, Peter didn't even flinch when a passing schoolboy threw a snowball at him as he reported from Eastleigh in England.

Not. A. Bother.

Peter even stayed cool on Twitter when viewers and colleagues questioned him:

Cara Delevingne’s next acting role is not for the faint hearted. She will be starring in The Face Of An Angel alongside Kate Beckinsale and Daniel Bruhl in the film which is based on the murder of Meredith Kercher back in 2007.

Meredith’s killer Amanda Knox, who has been re-convicted of the killing, is threatening to sue the BBC as the case is still ongoing and according to her lawyer, the film could be “damaging to her image” if it is draws direct comparisons to what actually happened. Knox’s lawyer Luciano Ghirga says that if this does happen, legal action may be taken:

“There have already been at least two films and 12 books about the case. If the film is based even loosely on the murder in Perugia and if it is damaging to Amanda's image, we will be asking for damages, as we have done in other cases.”

However, the film is going ahead, and Cara (who plays a fun loving student called Melanie) says that “It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I learnt so much just because I found out a lot about myself.

“I found out that I could act, that I could do it confidently and not be nervous and die because usually I think I’m going to die doing things that scare me! I went in so terrified and nervous but I got so much good advice from Michael and Daniel. We just made a family.”

We definitely can’t wait to see Cara in action – but could her acting success mean her modelling days could be coming to an end?! We hope not!

This is so funny. A blooper on BBC News has the whole world laughing as reporter Caroline Bilton shrinks to the ground. Or maybe the camera went up, we’re not sure.

Either way, it makes the news very entertaining.
