So look, mascara doesn’t always come very cheap. Often there’s going to be a decision to be made: Do I buy snacks, or more beauty products?

If you’re anything like some of us, then snacks are a pretty popular option. Well, don’t worry, because one helpful YouTube blogger has found the solution.

She makes mascara out of Oreos. Of course! How come we never thought of this before? Most likely because we enjoy, as so many people do, eating our food.

However, this beauty blogger makes the process look so easy that we think we might be tempted to give it a try.

The very simple method just requires you to smash the biscuit part of your Oreo into tiny pieces and then mix it with water to make for an easier application. It sounds fool proof, doesn’t it? Katharine uses an alcohol sanitizer to make sure the pot is completely clean. However, it is probably worth bearing in mind that getting a lot of food in your eye area is probably not so good for them.

One big positive about this handy tutorial, aside from being quite bizarre and entertaining, obviously, is that you don’t need to use the cream filling of the Oreos. Basically, yet another reason for you to enjoy scooping out the centre, because you really needed another reason..

Katharine is also responsible for making lipstick out of Starbursts and eyeliner from M&Ms. So, you can always try those too if you're feeling particularly adventurous.

We often spend hours scrolling through countless images of our favourite celebrities on the red carpet.

Sometimes (only sometimes, though) a five minute Instagram break even becomes a whole hour of oodling. Oopsies.

And the one thing that is always a topic of conversation after these binges is flawless skin… and how to get it.

Fear not, however! Even if you don’t have an A-list glam squad at your fingertips, we reckon you no longer need one.

Youngblood cosmetics, for example, are a firm favourite of famous faces like Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Alba.

A line of luxury mineral products that are designed to leave your skin feeling fresh and silky without any of the nasty chemical or dyes you usually find hidden in your foundations. Flawless, in fact!

Here, we round-up just some of the secret top tips that A-listers are using to ensure they look their most fabulous every time they step in front of the camera.

Mineral Primer: Gwyneth Paltrow

Selected by Gwynnie as her must-have primer, she also notes it as an essential for maintaining your summer glow.

A lightweight formula which smoothes lines and pores, it also gives a flawless base for foundation, allowing it to go on effortlessly and stay put all day. And if you’re stuck, you can even use a few drops to tame unruly hair frizz. Amazing!

Pressed Mineral Blush: Jessica Alba

If you want a dewy glow and healthy pallor to rival Ms Alba herself, look no further than this bad boy.

For a rich colour just apply high on the cheeks and combine with Lunar Dust in the Duck shade to your cheekbones for a beautiful glow that is red carpet ready.

Brow Artiste Kit: Jessica Alba

Oh those brows! Everyone wants their brows on fleek these days. And Jessica also achieves hers with the help of this handy kit.

The dual-ended brush allows you to easily comb your brows into place and shape. Then the tinted wax ensures long-lasting and natural looking brows all day (and night) long.

Youngblood Mineral Foundation: Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston’s a fan, so you know this is a good’un. Her make-up artist, Angele Levin, says they both adore this product because of the lightweight formula, so you only need to use a small amount.

As it’s not heavy it blends easily – so if you do need extra coverage you can build it up without fear of your face feeling too heavy or looking too caked.

All of these products, and thousands more, are available on Cloud10Beauty.com. They have a HUGE selection of great brands and they are always on the look out for the next best thing to help your skin, hair and everywhere look and feel its very best.

People have been using Botox not just for wrinkle prevention for a while now.

And the fact that Botox can be used to help prevent sweating in certain areas of your body is now being utilised by some women in order to achieve their best hair looks.

Yes, it is being reported that women are having Botox injected into their scalps in order to beat her dreaded hair frizz.

It’s called, being seriously here, the Blow-tox.

Blow-tox sessions includes having Botox injected into your scalp, around the face and neck area, and then having your usual blow dry done.

Sounds lovely, if you’re not afraid of needles.

When Botox is injected into the scalp it blocks the nerves the transfer messages to the sweat glands, so your hair becomes less frizzy and also won’t need to be washed as frequently.

Dr Sabika Karim told Mail Online about how the treatment “can stop the perspiration that spoils hair and looks so unappealing.”

Fourty-four-year old Michelle MacCormack said she was “so fed up of my daily hair struggles and its terrible condition”, so wanted to give the Botox treatment a chance.

And now she can’t get enough of it.

She says that four months on “it’s cut the amount of blow-drying I do by half. I still run straighteners over the top layer of hair, but only briefly. And the style stays sleek all day.”

Michelle now also only has to wash her hair twice a week. So her hair struggles are no more, lucky her.

While Blotox does sound like it could rid a lot of us of our hair woes and blow dry struggles, and cut back on the amount of heat styling we have to do, it does have a con, or two.

“I paid £400, which sounds a lot,” says Michelle. That’s €560, which is a lot Michelle. But hey, who doesn't want the chance to have Blake Lively's glossy mane?

Dr Zamani, who practises at the Cadogan Clinic in London’s fancy pants Sloane Square, also has said that Blow-tox is not without danger.

“There’s always a risk of neck weakness if you inject around the muscles that hold up your head.”

Who doesn’t love getting their nails done? It’s one of life’s simple pleasures that we just really enjoy. What we don’t enjoy however, is that sometimes it leaves some not so fun after effects.

We take lots of precautions for our skin and our hair when it comes to tanning and dying, so why should our nails be any different?

We gathered up a few straightforward tips for you to ensure that the next time you’re getting your favourite manicure, you’re not doing any unnecessary damage to your nails.

Go for LED not UV

Long term exposure to UV rays is bad for your skin leading to premature aging and spotting. Do a Google search and check if your favourite salon offers an LED light to avoid leaving the salon with hands old before your years.

Soak it off, don't peel.

Doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as Taylor’s catching jingle, we know. Peeling off chipped polish can be satisfying, like popping bubble wrap (which is soon going to be taken from us, devastated). But you’re risking exposing your nails to some gross bacteria. So try avoid it where possible.

Try a nail wrap instead

They provide an extra layer of protection for your nails, and you have countless customised wraps to choose from. Also, if these babies are salon applied, they can last for quite a long time. Also, they tend to be a little cheaper than other options.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

It’s probably not what you want to hear, because we do all love to treat ourselves to a sweet manicure from time to time. However, going overboard on the nail art is apparently not so good for you. Your nails need a break from time to time. Then when you head back the salon, your healthy nails will be absolutely flawless.

And the award goes to… The ladies of Cork and Limerick.

Cork residents have been found to purchase the most discounted deals on beauty treatments. According to a recent survey, the women of Limerick city are apparently the second most beauty obsessed in the country. Who knew?

Discounted beauty deals count for 31% of all those purchased on Living Social in the Cork region, while in Limerick it came to 30%. South Dublin dwindled down to 18% and Galway came in at 23%.

And what do these beauty savvy ladies chose to spend their hard earned cash on you ask?

Manicures, pedicures and teeth whitening are some of the most popular indulgences for the local ladies.

The online shopping website Living Social is reporting that people in Limerick are the ones snatching up those bargain beauty deals before anyone else in the country even gets a look in.

Haircuts, waxing, laser treatments and the all-important all-over spray tan are all high on the list of purchased beauty treatments. These ladies have clearly got their priorities.

For those in Cork, the most popular treatments were manicures and pedicures. More of these packages were bought in Cork than anywhere else in Ireland and the UK.

Let it never be said that us Irish ladies don’t like to look our best, and we’re not afraid to invest in or ourselves either apparently!

If ever there was a time to use the nail painting emoji it would be now.

Apparently we’re finally going to be receiving some long overdue heat next week. Met Éireann are saying there could possibly be temperatures of up to 20 and 24 degrees.

We don’t want to jinx it, we really don’t want to do that but- YAY!

Finally, an excuse to dust off those denim cut offs and head for the beach.

There’s just one downside; the added heat and general summer weather can take a serious toll on our hair. Nothing ruins a holiday like unmanageable frizz or nasty split ends.

Not to worry, we rounded up a few tips to help you master the summer hair woes and keep you on fleek whether you’re at the beach in Bundoran or jetting off to the Bahamas.

Problem: Chlorine can leave your locks less than lustrous

The Fix: Celebrity stylist Rita Hazan says the best way to combat this is to wet your hair before getting in the water. This stops the chlorine from being absorbed by your hair. Also, a deep conditioning mask wouldn’t go astray. If you apply it while you’re drying off in the sun the heat will help the product really help your hair recover.

Problem: The sun makes coloured hair brassy

The Fix: Hazan says that using a gloss twice a week before you condition as well as a nice weekly deep condition for coloured hair will help you keep your colour all summer long. Also wet your hair before diving head first into the chlorine, and when you’re on the beach, or strolling about town on a hot summer’s day, invest in some products with UV blockers. They’ll help your keep your style for longer and your colour plenty vibrant. Sorted.

Problem: “IT’S THE HUMIDITY!”

The Fix: The number one cause of fizziness is your hair being dry, so your tresses will draw water from the atmosphere, making it frizz. The easiest way to tackle this is by getting a good leave-in conditioner to help your extend your style and keep things under control. No cornrows necessary. Phew!

Do you ever wonder why your skin still feels dry after moisturising? Or why your face doesn’t feel clean after cleansing?

Well, do not fear, because this is a common problem for a lot of women.

On average, our bodies shed about one layer of dead skin a day. It is the failure to remove this dead skin properly that can cause oil and dirt to clog your pores.

Many exfoliators that you can buy in shops contain loads of harsh chemicals, and frankly, are way too expensive.

Instead, why not true one of these four easy at-home exfoliators instead?

Oatmeal exfoliator

Oatmeal works as a wonderful soothing facial scrub. It absorbs and removes dirt and leaves your skin nourished and replenished. It can also help with skin conditions including acne, dry skin, and even sunburn.

Mix 1 tbsp of ground oatmeal with ¼ tsp of salt, and 1 tsp of water and stir it into a paste. Rub the mixture onto your face using gentle circular motions. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse off.

Sugar exfoliator

Granulated sugar works wonderfully as an exfoliator. Mixed with a small amount of honey and lemon juice, you have a simple and easy at-home solution. The honey acts as an antioxidant and the lemon is great for clarifying purposes.

Mix 1 tsp of sugar, ½ tsp of honey and a squirt of lemon juice and stir them together. Gently rub onto the face in circular motions and rinse with lukewarm water.

Baking soda exfoliator

Also great for deep cleaning teeth (as well as baking cakes), baking soda can be used to exfoliate your face.

Add 1 tsp to your regular facial cleanser or else make a paste with baking soda and water. Gently rub it into the skin and leave for five minutes before rinsing off.

Coffee exfoliator

The caffeine in coffee can act as a stimulant for the skin (as well as the brain). It also has properties which can help boost collagen production.

Simply add 1 tbsp of water to 1 tbsp of coffee and stir together. Rub the mixture gently onto the face and rinse off with lukewarm water. Although, make sure to plug your sink and clean the coffee out into the bin, as the grounds can clog your drains.

Forget the manky sponges that sometimes come with powder and cream compacts, what’s now on offer is far more sophisticated. Complexion-perfecting sponges, used damp to buff in foundation, are back with a bang.

As a devotee to quite the ridiculous collection of make-up brushes, it took me a while to get excited about the beauty sponge trend. With enough buffing brushes to last a lifetime, I was still set on trying a few, though – all in the name of research, of course.

Sponges of this type are super-absorbent and best used damp. Run a clean one under the tap, squeeze well and repeat a few times – it should expand quite a bit. Dot foundation on with your fingers, and use the sponge to buff and blend as much as you see fit. You might need a second layer and it may take longer than using a brush, but the result will be far more seamless and ‘skin-like’. I especially love these sponges for working concealer into the undereye area.

Any downsides? As well as taking longer to use, cleaning and hygiene are also a biggie with these sponges. The best way to wash them is with baby shampoo, and alcohol from the chemist is good for disinfecting them, too. Oh, and make sure to keep sponges in a sealed container to ensure that they’re not rolling around in dust or dirt of any kind – bleugh!

The Beautyblender (€21 from cultbeauty.co.uk) is what set this trend alight. Mario Dedivanovic, the makeup artist most famous for Kim Kardashian’s signature look, has created a huge amount of hype around the original makeup sponge, and uses it not only for foundation, but also powder and even moisturiser from time to time! It was the first sponge I tried and remains my favourite; I love the pointed shape and I cannot achieve the finish it gives with any other tool. We might think of sponges as cheap, throwaway items, but these are really sophisticated and will last a long time if cared for correctly. If you’d prefer not to order online, it’s also available in Make Up For Ever on Clarendon St.

Blanaid Johnson, owner of Irish online beauty retailer Cloud10Beauty, reckons that ‘there are some pretty poor sponges out there… the materials used either absorbs too much product or is not soft enough for a flawless application. I like the flat edge on the Real Techniques one. It’s a simple addition which for me made it much more useful’. The Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is also a winner for me; not quite as amazing as the Beautyblender, but definitely great in its own right. The flat edge is really handy, and it’s also far better budget-wise at just €7.99 in Boots.

Blank Canvas Cosmetics, an Irish makeup brand, have their own version, the Airbrush Blender Sponge (€7.99). This is the largest and heaviest of the three sponges I’ve tried. Though the quality is still there, I found it just a little too big for getting into all of the various nooks and crannies of the face. I might just reserve this one for powder, Mario-style!

Remember, back in the 00s, when clumpy mascara was an actual trend? Celebs like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie were often photographed with what looked like a good half-tube of the stuff layered on.

The full lash trend never really went away, though, and celebs like Katy Perry, Girls Aloud and Lilly Ghalichi have cashed in on it big-time with their own range of false lashes. Aside from the endorsed ranges, Kim K has named Ardell Demi Wispies more than once as her falsie of choice – and they really are just amazing.

For a more convincingly natural look, eyelash extensions have become uber-popular among loads of celebs (as well as us mere mortals). Megan Fox, Angelina Jolie and Cheryl Cole are all devotees – they’re fine if you can afford the top-ups, but can look a little funny when falling out.

Brows have most definitely evolved over the years; from the pencil-thin Kate Moss ‘90s brow, to the uber-exaggerated Scouse brow of the ‘00s, to the bushy, Brooke Shields inspired natural brow we’re all loving right now.

Anastasia Soare (more commonly known as Anastasia Beverly Hills) has made her name by grooming celebrity brows, and counts Kim Kardashian, Oprah and Jennifer Lopez as regular clients. Many of them swear by her products; the Dipbrow Pomade and Brow Wiz in particular have a cult following.

Another celeb all too aware of the importance of a good brow is Kelly Osbourne. She’s confessed to over plucking in the past, and even included a brow palette in her MAC collection last year. Of course, the eyebrow icon of the moment has to be Cara Delevigne.

Cara’s made no secret of the fact that her brows are all-natural, and she doesn’t do a whole lot with them day-to-day apart from pluck the odd stray. On shoots, one of her MUAs Wendy Rowe also keeps it simple with Cara’s brows. She says: “Cara has really dark, dense brows naturally, so there's not a lot that I have to do to them to get them looking great. I mainly focus on grooming them and keeping them in position. Elnett hairspray, sprayed onto a M.A.C. Brow Gel to keep them in place—it’s easy to just comb through quickly, and when you have a lots of hair it’s important to fix it in shape as it can become unruly.” Noted.

Why is it that spots always choose to show up at the exact worst time? You're getting all psyched up for that big interview or first date and then – BAM! – a nice big spot shows up on your cheek.

Squeezing a whitehead might be tempting, but if you can resist you'll find the blemish disappears much faster and without leaving a scar.

Instead, follow these six pro tips for concealing and covering up that spot until it decides to vacate the building.

1. Clean your face well
Before applying any make up to your face and especially before putting it on top of any blemishes, make sure your face is clean. Wash your face with lukewarm water and the facial cleanser of your choice. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel.

2. Use a good base
Apply a cream foundation or primer to your face, covering the whole area.

3. Conceal and colour correct
For best results when dealing with red or blotchy blemishes, use a green tinted concealer. The green counteracts with any redness and reduces the colour. Take a concealer brush, one with pointy, flat bristles, and cover it with the concealer.

4. Apply like a pro
Instead of using a brushing motion to apply the concealer, press the bristles on top of the blemish and twist the brush. Repeat this until the spot is completely hidden. With a clean index finger, gently press down around the sides of the blemish so as that the concealer will soften and blend into your skin.

5. Blend, blend, blend
Then apply your foundation as normal, taking it right up to the very edge of the spot so as that your skin is one even colour.

6. Set it with powder
Finally, apply your powder. The powder should be an exact match with your skin colour. Use a clean finger to lightly tap the powder on top of the concealer. The powder should set the concealer, eliminating the risk of smudges or fading. It also works to even out your skin tone.

We love updating our make-up bag – what is less appealing is how seriously expensive picking up a few essentials can be.

At one stage or another, we've probably all forked out megabucks for a designer foundation, lipstick, or bronzer – only to afterwards think 'was it really worth it?' But thankfully (especially when you're flat broke) there are cheaper alternatives available, IF you know where to look.

We've lately been particularly impressed with what's in stock at Dealz – the discount retailer probably more readily-associated with party accessories, household cleaners, sweets, and soft drinks.

But it's also a treasure trove for beauty addicts on a budget. Better still, with everything in its Make Up Gallery range priced at €1.49 each, you could overhaul your entire cosmetics collection if you fancied it.

The stand-outs for us are definitely the brand's long-lasting foundation, quick-dry nail polish (we love the summer-appropriate pastel shades), the sheer lip gloss (hues on offer include cherry pop, and nice and nude), and the pressed powder.

The long-lasting foundation comes in a range of colours to suit a load of different skin types, while the pressed powder is enriched with vitamin E and is available in honey beige and natural beige.

Dealz has more than 40 stores in Ireland; see dealz.ie to location your nearest one.
