For us beauty amateurs, blush can be the trickiest make-up product to master. Sure, practice makes perfect, but a good investment blush can also work wonders, warming up and shaping your face.

So we were keen as mustard to try out Urban Decay's afterglow 8-hour powder blush, to see if it can claim a hot-spot in our make-up bags.

The brand promises that it lasts for a full eight hours, and afterglow is certainly gorgeously light with a creamy texture. It's also available in 12 different colours, meaning your should find your perfect hue regardless of whether you're looking to go vibrant, bold, subtle, or neutral. The finish of the blush varies, as some are matte and some are slightly more shimmery.

Thankfully, this is a blush which blends easily to avoid a build-up of powder. It also has light-diffusing pigments to make your skin look flawless.

Design-wise, there is a "UD" cut-out on the compact lid complete with a quirky fishnet design, and handily the shade can be seen through the cut-out.

Afterglow 8-hour powder blush is €28 and is available in selected Debenhams stores, and at House of Fraser in the Dundrum Town Centre.

YouTube has well and truly taken over, hasn’t it?  I think a lot of us spend more time in front of YouTube than we do the TV these days – that is, unless you are enough of a genius to have hooked your tablet or laptop up to the telly!

We’ve all witnessed the explosion of beauty ‘gurus’ on YouTube – it’s changed the entire industry. These days, I won’t even look at a product twice without Googling a review, and YouTube videos have a huge part to play in that process.

There’s also a new breed of celebrity as a result of this explosion – the YouTuber! There’s nothing wrong with that in general of course, but it does mean that many of the girls I’ve watched for years have begun to market themselves towards a younger audience in order to build hype. These days, it can be hard to find a straight talker online who just offers trustworthy product reviews – and awesome blending skills are always a plus!

I’ve rounded up three beauty YouTubers you might not have heard of yet. I don’t find any of them overly twee or hyper – sure, they all have personalities, but nothing OTT. Each brings something a little different to the table, but, trust me – they’re all great fun, really helpful and genuinely brilliant at what they do.

Whatever you’re up to this weekend, be prepared to lose a few hours to these babes…

LustreLux’s videos somehow always have the power to make me want to drop everything and slap on the makeup, Drag Race style. This girl loves a heavy look and makes no apologies for it, because she pulls it all off so effortlessly. I can only dream of recreating her work, but I do love trying… pass the glitter!

Rachel Whitehurst is a long-running favourite of mine, because she’s all about beauty without the bullsh*t. I like her not only for her wonderfully sarcastic personality, but also for her fantastic taste in beauty products. The girl knows how to rock a bold lip, and shares my fetish for highlighter – just call us kindred spirits.

Monika Blunder is a celebrity make-up artist who boasts Rosie Huntington Whitely, Jessica Alba and Amanda Seyfried as clients – need I go on? Monica works closely with one of my favourite brands, Laura Mercier – but she doesn’t go for the hard sell, and will often feature cheaper alternatives. If you’re a Lisa Eldridge fan, you’ll adore Monica – her tutorials are really relaxing and easy to follow.

When we see celebrities all dolled up on the red carpet or out and about during the day, we just expect them to have an army of make-up artists behind them to perfect the glam. However, this is in fact not the case for every celebrity. Here are five celebrities who do their own make-up and it will definitely surprise you.

1.  Blake Lively
Blake has previously said: "I like doing my own make-up and hair for events. I think it's fun." Okay, so she's just naturally flawless then…

2. Kate Middleton
So remember when Kate looked super gorgeous on her wedding day? There wasn't any royal help behind that, she actually did her make-up herself.

3. Cheryl Fernandez- Versini
The singer has said: "I've lived with this face for 31 years, so I know it better than anybody!" Hmmm we're not sure if we're convinced just yet…

4. Taylor Swift
We all have a blank space in our daily beauty routine without her make-up tips. Tay, pleeeease.

5. Shakira
The singer has said the reason for doing her own make-up is: "Because I'm good, I'm cheap, I'm fast." Nice logic, Shakira.

MAC has long been a firm-favourite with Irish gals so our interest is always piqued when a new collection arrives on its counters. Released tomorrow, the cosmetics brand has snazzed up some of its summer essentials. And even if one of the themes – ahem, a laundromat – sounds a little silly, we couldn't help but check it out.

MAC Wash & Dry
Time to liven up your make-up bag? This colourful collection certainly boasts plenty of bright packaging and eye-catching hues. Based around the quirky idea of a launderette, we're going to go out on a limb here and say that we love it. Lipsticks (€21.50) have been given fun and funky names such as tumble dry, and steam heat, while nail varnishes (€11.00) has been labelled Monday blues, and washteria. The range also features various eye, brow, and face products, as well as makeup brushes and bags. However, it's also all limited edition so if you're keen, snap it up fast.

Eyes On MAC
MAC is repromoting its popular eyes X15 palettes from last spring, adding in brand new X9 palettes for this season. You can use the products to create daytime and evening looks in various textures, so we're hoping that investing in one of these means you won't have to buy more eyeshadows for a while. The X9 palettes (€40.00) are available in an amber, a purple, a navy, and a burgundy, while the X15 (€75.00) are available in warm/neutral, and cool/neutral.

MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation
This is the latest addition to the pro longwear range and at €36.50 it is set to be a huge hit. It can be used as a foundation or a concealer and MAC says that it lasts for an incredible 16 hours. It's an oil-free product too and gives a nice medium-to-full coverage. It's particularly perfect for anyone suffering from blemishes or imperfections.

All of the products are exclusive to Brown Thomas, BT2 and www.brownthomas.com

Frizzy hair can be a big problem for many of us, especially after showering. There is nothing more annoying and it can be a very big struggle when getting ready to go somewhere. Frizz can be avoided, and here are five useful ways how.

1. Always use conditioner
Conditioner puts moisture into your hair and makes it smooth.

2. Let your hair dry almost fully itself before blow drying
The hot air dehydrates your hair and makes it frizzy. Try to avoid using too much hot air.

3. Brush your hair regularly
This distributes your hairs natural oils to keep all of your hair hydrated.

4. Apply hairspray to your comb
This will flatten your hair down and hold it in place.

5. Don't towel dry your hair
This is too harsh on the cuticle and can cause your hair to frizz.

Us women love it when our eyelashes are looking naturally long and beautiful. Yes, this can be achieved with mascara and fake eyelashes, but if you want your lashes to be clump free and not full of glue, here are some tips to improve your own eyelashes.

1. Remove eye make-up
Sometimes your eyelashes need a break from mascara, you can also damage them by roughly taking off your make-up. Remove make-up carefully and give your lashes a break.

2. Olive Oil
Olive oil is great TLC for your eyelashes, this will help them to grow longer and remain strong.

3. Vaseline
Apply Vaseline regularly to your eyelashes at night to promote growth and make them thick and strong.

4. Trim your eyelashes
Even though it doesn't sound like a good idea, trimming your eyelashes slightly every few months can stimulate the lash follicle and make them grow faster.

5. Balanced diet
Having a balanced diet can be great for the health of your lashes. Most fruits, green vegetables, meat and eggs are just a few of the foods that are good for your eyelashes.

Dry skin can be extremely irritating and make us very self conscious. Many of us suffer from it and while we can buy moisturisers for dry skin, here are some home remedies you can try too. They are affordable and great for your skin's health.

Olive oil and egg yolk
Olive oil is a natural antioxidant and the vitamin A in egg yolk controls the shedding of the skin and also makes it smooth. Mix together and rub on dry areas.

Coconut oil
Coconut oil has enough fatty acids that make up for loss of moisture from the skin, it also makes your skin feel soft and smooth. Leave it on overnight and wash it off in the morning, as regularly as you can.

Lemon juice and sugar
This exfoliating scrub evens out rough spots on the face, while the lemon lightens the skin tone. Mix a teaspoon of sugar with half a lemon and rub it all over your face.

Avocado and honey
This locks in moisture and can improve your skin's health. Mix half a cup of honey with half a mashed avocado into a mask consistency, apply on dry areas and leave on for 15 minutes before washing it off.

Banana and yoghurt
This mask moisturises and exfoliates the skin. Mash bananas with yoghurt and leave on dry areas for half an hour, then rinse it off.

Us Irish girls love our MAC. Did you know that the Grafton St store is one of the world’s busiest?! Yep, it’s up there with Macy’s in NYC… seems like nothing can come between an Irish girl and her Studio Fix!

We love MAC for so many reasons – the shade ranges, the sleek packaging, the fact that there’s always a new collection to ogle over with each visit. I’ve always been mad for their limited edition stuff (Disney Villains, anyone?!)

The regular line is full of gems, too – here’s 5 classics you must try.

Mineralise Skinfinish Natural is one of the most fantastic powders out there – whether you’re oily or dry, chances are you’ll get on famously with this. It’s not a flat matte, isn’t drying and never cakes – plus one of these compacts lasts forever and a day. Score.

It is quite literally impossible to choose just one MAC lipstick, so let’s go with one nude and one bold. On the more subtle side, Patisserie is a total crowd-pleaser. It’s a neutral shade that isn’t too opaque or pale – the lustre formula means it blends nicely with your own natural lip colour.
For a statement lip, Lady Danger is an incredibly striking warm red. Perfect for summer, it’s  a full-on shade that won’t dry lips out like some retro mattes can.

Warm Soul blush is another one of those products that just about anyone can use. It’s a beautiful warm neutral shade with a really fine shimmer that works equally well as a highlight on deeper skintones.

Into contouring? Forget any palette – Harmony powder blush is all you really need. It’s the perfect shade to cast a convincing shadow and carve out cheekbones on even the pales of faces.

For covering a multitude of sins (and then some), Pro Longwear concealer is an absolute gem. A super-pigmented liquid formula, this stuff simply Does. Not. Budge! Perfect for long days in the office.

Blusher is a great make-up product when applied correctly, but sometimes we can be unsure what the correct way is. Here are some tips on how to apply blusher depending on your own face shape. They are simple tips, but could definitely help with your make-up routine.

Round
For round faces, apply it at an angle, blending from the apples of you cheeks towards your temples.

Square
For square faces, apply it across the way, slightly over from your nose.

Oval
For oval faces, apply blush straight to the apples of your cheeks.

Long
For long faces, apply on the apples and blend out towards the temples.

This will definitely be a useful tip for the weekend, you better inform the rest of the girls.

Most of us suffer with breakouts from time to time, but we all get them in different places. Different areas mean different things, so what are your breakouts trying to tell you?

Forehead: Stress is the main cause of forehead breakouts. However, a lack of sleep can also be a trigger. Try to relax and get plenty of rest.

Cheeks: Spots can form on your cheeks due to bad habits you don't even realise you're doing. Try to stop touching your face and putting your phone against it as often as you normally would. Smoking can also cause this.

Chin: Chin breakouts are caused by hormones. This can be a common occurrence in the lead up to, and during your period.

Around your mouth: Your diet. Residue from greasy foods can irritate the skin, and eating these foods can also clog your pores. Try wiping your mouth after you've eaten and cutting down on fried foods.

Chest/back: Fabrics play a huge role in breakouts on your chest and back. Cotton soaks up sweat and keeps it close to your skin. This attracts bacteria which can cause spots.Try different fabrics and change your clothes straight after working out.

Many of us may feel that washing our hair every single day is good for it. However, this is not the case. Unless you desperately need to, you should try to avoid washing your hair everyday and here are 5 reasons why.

1. Natural Oils
We all hear about the natural oils in our hair and how important they are. Rather than trying to get rid of them, we should be grateful for them. They make your hair healthier and shinier.

2. Keeping colour
Conditioner can strip the colour from your hair and shampoo can cause it to fade. If you want to keep your hair dye locked in for as long as possible then you need to prevent yourself from washing it on a daily basis.

3. Styling your hair
Fresh hair can be difficult to work with. Hair that hasn't been washed for a day or two will hold better and be more manageable. This will end up saving you time in the morning.

4. Product build up
Sometimes greasy hair can be caused by a build up of products rather than your own natural olis, so try avoiding them for over a day.

5. Heat protection
By not washing your hair everyday you are not spending as much time blow drying it as you normally would. This means less heat and less damage to your locks.

Try this for a week and see if you notice the difference.

Some of us don't apply face masks as often as we should. In reality though, they are the perfect thing to do on your romantic Friday night date with your cat and a glass of wine.

Here are 5 reasons why we think you should start finding time to apply a face mask!

1. They are really relaxing. Go for a long soak in a bubble bath and then apply a face mask, you'll feel relaxed due to the scent and your skin will feel fab.

2. Cleansing your skin only removes surface dirt. Face masks cause a deeper cleanse by drawing impurities out of the skin.

3. Regular face masks keep your pores unclogged and prevent the bacteria build up under our skin which can cause spots.

4. After you've applied a face mask you will feel better in yourself because of the time and care you've dedicated to your skin.

5. DIY face masks can be great fun and used when you don't have time to run out and buy one.

A few suggestions for your DIY facemask ingredients we would suggest are- banana, avocado, honey and yoghurt.

Enjoy!
