Competition-headerFor those of us with sensitive skin, finding the right foundation can be a pain. Within minutes of applying The Next Big Thing, our well prepped skin can show signs of flaking, as well as dry patches that ruin our carefully crafted look and knock our confidence.

God, it really is tough being a girl sometimes.

Teint Idéal is a specially crafted foundation for sensitive skin. Thanks to Vichy’s rigorous safety charter, not only does skin not react to the formulation, it is even considered to be 74% less irritated, 74% more hydrated and 76% less red.

The new range was created to combat heavy, unflattering and cake-like complexions with a collection of stunning foundations, powders, illuminators and concealers that celebrate the face behind the make-up.

The range is all about light, illumination and what’s called ‘liquid light technology’. It’s perfect to ideally reflect light and improve the look of tired, grey skin – ideal for the morning after a big night out or when you’ve woken up late for lectures…again.

Because Teint Idéal aims to create a beautifully natural complexion, it means your skin should be in the best shape it can be and the make-up range is formulated to help you do just that. After just two weeks of testing, 96% of women said it gave their skin the perfect texture and corrected dull complexions.

Flawless coverage and improved skin condition – that’s a make-up range that just keeps on giving.

Teint Idéal foundation is available as a cream or in fluid form, with the cream more suited to dry skin and the fluid aimed at people with normal to combination. Both formulas even out and correct skin, providing 24hr hydration and a 14hr hold with a luminous, smooth finish.

The range also contains a compact powder foundation with an all-day hold and dinky little concealer and illuminator roll-ons, which can be popped in your handbag to correct the appearance of pores, redness or dullness on the move. Perfect for when you don’t have time to get your look right before leaving the house.

If you’re a real beauty buff, there are currently lots of great tips and tricks from professional make-up artist Zoë Clark on the Vichy website  to help you get the most out of their Teint Idéal range. Check out the video below to see what you could learn.

The Teint Idéal range is available in pharmacies nationwide from February 2014.

RRP: Fluid Foundation (€22.50), Cream Foundation (€22.50), Compact Powder Foundation (€25.00), Concealer Roll-On (€15.99) and Illuminator Roll-On (€15.99)

A good kit of basics can make or break a beauty regime – and I’m not even talking about the actual cosmetics.

There’s nothing more critical than your actual beauty tools – when you run out of your €40 foundation, you’ll be so glad of that buffing brush you invested in to make the cheap stuff look just as good!

Brushes
I have what could be described as a fetish for make-up brushes; I’ll never stop trying new ones and I collect them like prized pieces of art. There are some absolute classics that can’t be beaten; for eyeshadow, I’d count the MAC 217 and 286 as invaluable for blending. Nothing compares.

For liquid foundation, I’ll always adore buffing brushes like the Blank Canvas F20, but I’ve just discovered something that is quite possibly even better. The BeautyBlender is an absolutely incredible dome-shaped sponge for making foundation look convincingly natural – it’s not quite as quick and easy as a regular brush, but worth the effort whenever you have a few extra minutes.

Brows
Before you do anything with your brows, brush ‘em up and out using a spoolie – you’ll instantly look groomed and more alert. You can buy these in bulk from beauty supply stores or Ebay – or even rob a few from your local make-up counter, but don’t tell them you heard it from me!

A good, sharp, synthetic slanted brush will be your best friend for applying brow powders and pomades – Ecotools do an excellent one and it’s super-affordable.

Cheese is to wine as what brows are to Tweezerman tweezers. You can’t have one and not have the other – if you possess eyebrows, you need these tweezers because they are simply the best. They come in two different sizes and I’d recommend just picking up the mini size, because it’s just as good as the regular size, but a couple of euro cheaper.

Skincare
For skincare, you don’t exactly need an elaborate toolkit. However, I’m all about the best basics – and it doesn’t get much better that a good, fluffy, clean flannel. Buy a bunch from Dunnes or Penneys, use a clean one every day, and thank me later.

Muslin cloths are also lovely for some light exfoliation (harsh apricot kernel scrubs are so 2008). If you fancy a deeper clean, try working the Clarisonic into your routine a couple of nights a week. It has a cult following for a reason; nothing beats a good sonic cleanse and, unlike your favourite lotions and potions, this will never run out!

The wonderful and whimsical blog, Eyelash In Wonderland is run by Eilish, an Irish girl who is currently living the dream in London.

In her blog, Eilish says she can be defined by three things; sunglasses, red lipstick and leopard print.

We’re not sure about you, but that sounds like our type of gal!

We asked Eilish some questions about her beauty regime and even got a sneaky glimpse into her make-up bag…

1. What's your best budget beauty buy?
I absolutely ADORE Lacura BB cream from Aldi! I'm usually very fussy when it comes to BB cream and I only picked it up because a lady standing next to me in the shop told me how amazing it is. She was so right!!! It is super light and the coverage is fantastic. I've started wearing it at work at the compliments have been flying in!

2. What's your top make-up tip?
Draw lightly along the bottom and upper brow line with concealer before pencilling or shading in the brows. This really helps with defining the shape and prevents mistakes when shading! I've only started doing this recently and it has made a huge difference to my brows.

3. Do you have a favourite all-round beauty product?
Ohhh there's so many but I would have to chose Ultrabland by Lush. This is the best cleaner I've gotten my hands on!!! My skin has totally changed for the better since I started using it and for the first time ever I actually enjoy taking off my make up!

4. What's your earliest beauty memory?
I used to love watching my Mom put on her make up. I remember once she went to do her hair so I took her make up and plastered it all over my face. When she caught me me I said "Mommy's beautiful baby!" and grinned away at her. I don't think she was very impressed!

5. Most girls have a signature scent – what's yours?
I usually have phases when it comes to perfume but the only brand that has ever stuck with me is Burberry. I started off wearing Burberry Weekend but now my signature scent is Burberry Body.

6. What's in your make-up bag right now? Include a picture if you like!
I have a drawer full to the brim with make up and every week I change the contents of my make up bag.

  • Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation
  • Lacura BB Cream
  • Collection Glam Crystals Eyeliner
  • Loreal True Match Concealer
  • Natural Collection Crimson Lipstick
  • Make Up Gallery Never Ending Story Mascara
  • Urban Decay Naked 2 Eyeshadow Palette
  • Max Factor Wild Mega Volume Mascara
  • Yves Rocher Beauty Mascara
  • Loreal Mega Volume Miss Manga Punky Mascara
  • Max Factor Creme Puff Powder (Not Pictured)

Expect to see women everywhere sporting shorter locks from hereon in, because Kim Kardashian has just unveiled her new bob!

Indeed, while little sister Kylie took to her social media channels last night to share a snap of her new ‘dreads’, Kim later debuted a sleek and chic new look on her own Instagram account.

Posing for her followers, the reality star shared a stunning snap of herself, with the caption simply reading: “I cut my hair short today”.

Suddenly we feel a trip to the hairdresser may be in order…

The snap of fresh-faced Kim is a very welcome sight, after leaked photos of her full-frontal nude photo shoot for LOVE magazine did the rounds online earlier this week.

The star set tongues wagging once more when the shot of her posing, completely naked except for an open coat, and covered in oil hit the internet.

There is no doubt that the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star really is out to ‘break the internet’ following that Paper magazine shoot!

We’re loving Kim’s new look. Are you tempted to follow suit?

Ever since she brought out RED and made red lipstick her trademark, I’ve been scrutinising Taylor Swift’s makeup. It’s just always on point. What I love about her is that you can tell she enjoys it, too – even on off-days, you’ll see her rocking a statement lip.

She ramped it up quite a bit recently for the Blank Space music video, but the core principles of Taylor’s signature makeup don’t change a lot – cat eyes and a red lip are almost always present. Somehow, Swift has managed to make a look that has been done so many times before look 100% fresh, new and modern. People are fond of Taylor for many different reasons, but I adore her for making red lipstick cool again (Oh, and flats. Girlfriend knows how to rock a good pair of flats).

Read on for a crash course in Taylor’s makeup…

EYES
Taylor’s eyes are always bright and defined. NYX HD Concealer (€7.99) is a good bet for hiding undereye circles and just generally brightening up the area. For a classic cat eye, Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner (€17.50) is foolproof for a clean, sharp flick. To really make the eyes pop, add a flesh-toned pencil like Rimmel Scandaleyes pencil (€4.99) in Nude on the waterline.

LIPS
We know from this Instagram picture that Taylor is a NARS Velvet Matte lip pencil fan; in an online interview, she confirmed the shade:

“Dragon Girl by NARS. Another good one is Luxembourg by NARS but it’s glossier. I bought it ‘cos I heard on the radio that Hilary Duff uses it. And Hilary Duff is a magical princess.”

I can personally confirm that Dragon Girl is an incredible colour, but if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet liquid lipstick in 02 Frambourjoise (€12.49) is pretty awesome, too.

FACE
Taylor appears to have a naturally clear complexion; for events and shoots, I’m willing to bet that she ups the ante with a satin-finish foundation like Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk (€43). It’s expensive, but a cult classic.

Her makeup artist, Lorrie Turk, has also confirmed that she loved to use liquid illuminators to give even more life to Taylor’s complexion – try MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter in Light Boost (€24.50).

She’s also mastered the art of wearing bronzer to look healthy, not tangoed – difficult for a pale person. The Body Shop’s Honey Bronze range of powder bronzers (from €20) has shades to cater to all skintones, and the powder is super-silky and blendable.

NYX Cosmetics have taken the world by storm and their arrival in Ireland a few months ago has drawn serious attention from make-up lovers and beauty bloggers all over the country.

NYX blushers are a thing of serious beauty and can give you that healthy complexion and radiant glow that we all want leaving the house in the mornings! Or indeed, in the evenings…

However, many of us can be a little wary when it comes to using blush on our cheeks – where exactly should you apply it and what colour is best for your skin tone?

Now, NYX have shared some of their ultimate tips to ensure that you rock the blusher look:

  •  To apply to your cheeks, smile at yourself in the mirror and dot on the apples of your cheeks. Use your blusher brush or finger to blend towards the temples to give a subtle, sculpted glow. It’s important to apply high up on the apple of your cheeks so that your cheek looks lifted.
  • Avoid applying blush high up on the cheek bones, this area is for bronzer and blush will only create a longer face and shorten your forehead.
  • Always make sure you tap off any excess blush so you don’t apply too much on the cheek.
  • Try choose a shade that matches your cheeks when flushed or pick a hue that matches your lip colour so you ensure your cheeks look naturally blushed and not overdone. The NYX Cosmetics Blush in Angel, €7.49 is a shade that looks stunning on all skin tones.
  • Powder blushes are amazing for women prone to oily skin.
  • When choosing a blush or bronzer it’s important to find one that will illuminate the skin. Pastels, such as pretty peaches like the NYX Cosmetics Powder Blush Peach, €7.49 will brighten up your skin and highlight your face in all the right places.
  • For first time blushers, start off with a light pink or coral pigment like NYX Cosmetics Powder Blush Pinched, €7.49 and if you want something brighter go with a rose colour or deeper plum shade like the NYX Cosmetics Powder Blush Rose Garden, €7.49 if your skin tone is more sallow and warmer in tones.

NYX's blushers come in a range of colours and tones to suit everyone – our trouble is choosing just one!
