We know we're not meant to sweat the small stuff, but God it's hard sometimes. Frantically searching for that one thing that will pull your entire look together is hugely stressful and that's the bottom line!

If you've ever slid your finger in the crevice of a window sill looking for a hair pin or worn a 1980's headband because you couldn't find a bobbin, then ladies, you're not alone.

Here are just four beauty essentials designed to make us question our memories, vision and sanity.

Bobbins

You purchase a bumper pack of hair bobbins and promise yourself that you will use ONE until it breaks; at which point you will begin using the second bobbin in the pack, guaranteeing yourself enough bobbins from now until your dying day.

One week later, EVERY SINGLE BOBBIN has disappeared into thin air and you’re using an elastic band you found on your boyfriend’s bedroom floor.

Hair clips

Similar scenario to above, but not as easily remedied once you’ve realised that the thirty hair pins you bought three days ago have made a bid for freedom and you desperately need to pin your fringe back before the gym.

Paper clips, do they work? We’ll get back to you on that.

Lip salve

Vaseline, chapstick, carmex, lip balm, lip gloss; if it goes on your lips, you better not become too attached. You spend more time than you’d like to admit searching frantically for lip care while energetically gurning, don't you? The bottom of your bag, the floor of your car, the pocket of your jacket: nope nope, nope!

Where do they GO!

Eyeliner

Due to its shape and size, eyeliner is one of the beauty essentials that manages to escape our clutches on a weekly basis. Hell hath no fury like a woman trying to locate a miniscule black stick in the dark abyss that is her handbag.

Could we put it on a string and attach it to our make-up bag? A quirky mitten-minder type solution, maybe?

We're going to stop here because we're getting stressed.

Our beauty blog of the week is the fantastic ChatterBox!

Anita and Gemma, the lovely ladies behind the blog, agreed to share some tips and advice with us so we were thrilled to get a sneak peek into the girl's make-up bags and chat about their current faves and essentials!

From the design of the blog to the honest reviews, from the amazing giveaways to the top tips, this is definitely a site you’ll revisit time and again. With experience in the fashion and beauty industry, these girls are honest, passionate and know what they’re talking about.

And did we mention they have a make-up brush as a curser? Need we say more?

What is your best budget beauty buy?

We would definitely have to say Rimmel's Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation and Stay Matte Powder. Both work together to give a full coverage, flawless complexion that stays shine-free all day long. One of the best budget brands on the market in our eyes.

What is your top make-up tip?

For a specific make-up tip we would have to say apply your foundation a small bit at a time. It's better to apply it in light layers as it will look more natural and last longer. Also in general, a good tip is that there are no rules in make-up so be creative, have fun and experiment loads. We love to try out new products and create new looks. Even if something goes wrong and it doesn't look so good it's not the end of the world, it can always be washed off.

Most girls have a much-loved lipstick – what's yours?

We both have very different taste when it comes to lippies. Gemma likes a bright lip and her favourite would have to be Girl about Town by Mac while Anita's favourite would have to be Charlotte Tilbury's Nude Kate K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick. Both of which have been reviewed on our blog in the past!

What was your very first perfume and what are you currently wearing?

Back in the day we were both big fans of So….? perfumes, but we are currently trying out lots of lovely fragrances and change our scents regularly. One we are both smitten over at the minute is Liz Earle's Botanical Essence Eau De Parfum in No 100. This is such a sophisticated yet fun scent that we think can work for both day and night.

You're only allowed to use three make-up products for the rest of your life… what are they?

We would have to say Mac's studio fix powder foundation as it gives extra coverage, sets make-up beautifully and keeps dreaded shine at bay throughout the day.

We also adore Mac Pro longwear concealer. This product lasts so well, a little bit goes a long way and it can be doubled up as a foundation, if we are only allowed three products we need multi-use ones to get the most out of them!

Our final product would have to be a mascara. Gemma's favourite is Max Factors False Lash Effect in the Waterproof version and Anita's would have to be Lancome Grandoise Mascara in Black. Both give extra volume and length to your lashes, while holding a curl in place all day long.

Are you sure we can only pick three? Our list is endless. We are beauty lovers after all!

If you’ve been tweezing or waxing for years, then you may still have to sample the joys of eyebrow threading!

Due to the precision of the approach, threading is a great alternative to other salon or DIY approaches and because it’s inexpensive and takes mere minutes, it’s the way to go for students and girls on a budget who won’t settle for less when it comes to their brows!

The method, which originated in India, is done by removing unwanted hair with a twisted cotton thread. Sounds fairly painless, right? Wrong!

Eye-watering, yes, but is it worth it? Absolutely.

Here are three quick tips for anyone new to threading!

Communicate
Like all beauty procedures, it’s vital you communicate your preference to your beautician. Thick, medium, thin; don’t forget to speak up!

Expect some pain
The threading process is over very quickly, but it stings while it’s happening. Deep breaths and the knowledge it’ll be over in less than two minutes will see you through!

Don't panic
Threading tends to be a little kinder to the skin than waxing and tweezing, but it may not look that way immediately after!  Don’t panic; the redness will calm down almost immediately and you’ll be left with brows that perfectly frame your face.

If you haven’t yet tried this approach, give it a go! It might be the exact approach you and your brows are looking for!

We’re all guilty of ‘forgetting’ to have our Shellac professionally removed or deciding to paint over chipped polish without properly removing the old one, right? We forget to give our nails time to breathe and we load chemicals onto them frequently; is it any wonder they sometimes need emergency care?

If your nails are crying out for some TLC, but you can’t afford a professional treatment, don’t panic! Nail care can be done really well from home. All you need to do is familiarise yourself with the various steps that guarantee the perfect ten.

Five simple stages, girls…

Daily Treatment
Incorporating a 10 second nail and cuticle massage into your nightly beauty routine will do wonders for your nails. Using cuticle oil will repair any dryness or damage and gives your nails a healthy, solid base on which to apply products.

Moisturise
Place some moisturiser by your bathroom sink so that every time you wash your hands, you’ll be reminded to moisturise. Doing this will become second nature and you’ll see the difference in your hands and nails in no time!

Weekly treatment
Push back your cuticles once a week after a bath or shower when they will be at their softest. It doesn’t take long, you can use the edge of a towel if you don’t have a cuticle stick and doing so is vital for nail upkeep.

Emery board
Invest in a good quality emery board. Remember not to saw back and forth at your nail as this approach causes them to split and actually does more harm than good. Slowly shape your nails, taking care to smooth rough edges.

Fortnightly treatment
Having included all the above in your nail care routine, it’s now time for a DIY hot-oil treatment. You need to fill one bowl with oil and a larger bowl with a little hot water. Place the smaller bowl inside the bigger bowl and immerse your hands in the oil for about fifteen minutes. The result? Oh, so soft and smooth!

By doing all of the above, your nails will be in perfect condition for a Shellac or polish in the salon, but really girls, after sticking to this routine for a while and seeing the results, you may actually want to stay au naturel!

Whoa, whoa, whoa – what is going on?

We spent years lusting over Lauren Conrad’s luscious long blonde locks, and she seems to be on a mission of late to get rid of them!

The former star of The Hills took to Instagram this weekend to unveil her drastic new look – a blonde choppy bob!

We never thought we would see the day, Lauren.

While the reality star has been teasing us with snaps of her little trimmings since her wedding to William Tell, this is the shortest it has ever been.

Despite the fact that we have no head-on picture of her new look yet, we think the cut is simply stunning and have no doubts that she will be able to pull it off.

She is just the latest star to go for a dramatic image overhaul this week, with model Suki Waterhouse unveiling frizzy flame-red locks on her Instagram account.

What would we do for hair inspiration if it wasn’t for Instagram?

When it comes to our daily beauty routines, many of us would be hard pressed to go without our mascara, right?

We might be able to sacrifice our bronzer or reluctantly go bare-lipped for a few days, but most girls will admit that without their mascara they can look tired or drained. So we do really appreciate that extra boost around our peepers.

To really maximise your look and make the most of your favourite mascara, be sure to follow these tips and tricks and get all you can out of this beauty essential.

Work from the inside out!
Did you know that conditioning your lashes is just as important as conditioning your hair? Give your lashes the TLC they deserve by investing in a lash conditioner which will nourish the lashes and in turn create a smooth surface on which to apply your mascara.

Use that curler!
Do you use an eyelash curler on the daily, or is it more of a special occasion thing? Try to incorporate the curler into your daily regime and see the difference immediately! Always remember to apply the curler to bare lashes and if the curler can be warmed up by a quick blast from your hair dryer, all the better!

Comb it out!
You could be wearing the most expensive or luxurious mascara on the market, but it won’t do your lashes any justice if they’re clumping together like spider legs. Ew. Investing in a lash comb is a smart move if you really want a set of beguiling lashes!

Grab a spoon!
Hold a spoon underneath your eye when applying mascara to your bottom lashes. This will stop inconvenient mascara smears on the skin and will give you a better chance to coat each individual bottom lash.

Powder up!
Allow each layer of mascara to dry before applying the next layer. If you’re looking for some extra oomph around your eyes, then dust a little translucent powder on your lashes between applications. This will guarantee a plumped up, voluminous look that false lashes just can’t provide!

If you follow these tips and tricks for each and every mascara application, you'll be able to scratch false lashes off your beauty shopping list for good!

As much as we’d all like to tumble out of bed with enviable locks, the majority of us need a little (or in some cases, a lot) of extra assistance.

You’d be hard pressed to find a girl who doesn’t rely on a hair dryer, straightener or curler on a daily basis and let’s face it, many of us are the proud owners of all three.

But do we really know the rules for heat styling our hair? Considering the damage these appliances can do to our poor barnet, it’s high time we schooled ourselves on exactly what to do when it comes to our luscious locks.

Give your hair a break
Remember to give your hair a couple of off-days every week. As tempting as it is to run the straightener over your hair every morning, try not to! Professionals recommend your let your hair dry naturally once or twice a week and strongly advise we limit our straightening days to once or twice a week as well.

Don’t panic! Loads of chic looks, perfect for work or college, don’t require a straightener anyway and when you do indulge in some straightening, your hair will look all the sleeker for the time away from the heat!

Use heat protectant products
Many of us mistakenly believe that these products are little more than water and do absolutely nothing, but that’s simply not true, ladies. These products are designed to add moisture to your hair, something which rapidly evaporates the moment you apply a heated appliance to it. The products also form a protective barrier over the hair cuticle which helps to avoid that singed or brittle look many of us experience.

Why not try an experiment if you're still not convinced. Go protectant-free for one week if you dare, and the following week apply the sprays, serum or balms you've been recommended. See the difference? Yeah, we thought so!

Use the right sized appliance and accessories
If you have fine hair, then you need only use a 1’ straightener, but if your hair is thick and long then investing in a 1 ½’ appliance will make the world of difference and reduce your styling time. Also, be sure to use the nozzle on your hair dryer. This directs the heats and if done well, can reduce your straightening- time afterwards! Blasting your hair with a nozzle-free hair dryer will result in over drying and lead to a dry, frazzled look.

Yeah, think Harry from Dumb&Dumber for that one. Not quite what you're going for when the rest of you is bang on trend, right?

We have all come to rely so heavily on these appliances that using them as part of our daily beauty regime is just second nature, but you’d be surprised at how much you can do with your hair without plugging in a single tool. Plaits, high ponytails and messy buns never go out of style, so give your hair a break without sacrificing your bangin' look.

Our beauty blogger of the week is the beautiful Sinéad Kavanagh. Sinéad currently works in education so she describes herself as a "budding make-up artist with a work problem". You can see why we like her, right?

A self-confessed make-up and fashion addict, Sinéad decided to devote time to her passion when a health scare made her reevaluate certain aspects of her life. Thankfully, Sinéad has made a full recovery and is brightening up our weeks with make-up tips, video tutorials and product reviews in a down to earth, honest manner which we know you will all appreciate!

Including The Beautiful Truth in your round-up of beauty news and reviews is highly recommended, ladies.

What is your best budget beauty buy?

Without a shadow of a doubt, it would have to be the Wet n Wild Mega last lipsticks. These lipsticks pack a serious punch of colour, as well as being long lasting on the lips. They have a semi matte formula, but they still feel creamy on the lips. My favourite colours would be Spotlight Red, Bare It All and Mauve Outta Here. At €2.99 each, these lipsticks should be in everyone's makeup bag.

What is your top make-up tip?

Keep your eyebrows natural. I see far too many people with eyebrows that look like they have been applied with shoe polish. Eyebrows are there to frame and accentuate your face, not take over your face like to competing caterpillars. The Anastasia brow Wiz, is a fantastic eyebrow pencil for giving a defined, but natural brow.

Most girls have a much-loved lipstick – what's yours?

This is a hard question because I have so many lipsticks that I adore. I think it would have to be a throw up between Mac Ruby Woo and Smashbox Legendary. Both are blue toned reds, with Ruby Woo being a matte lipstick and Legendary being a really moist long lasting red. I think a red lipstick just makes everything look so much better.

What was your very first perfume and what are you currently wearing?

As a teenager, I wore Exclamation non stop. It was an awful sweet perfume that was a right of passage for many teenagers of my era. Now I have refined my taste in perfume a little bit and I am currently wearing YSL In Love again.

You're only allowed to use three make-up products for the rest of your life… what are they?

Oh God, the horror of having only 3 makeup products for the rest of my life! If I had to pick, it would be the Physicians formula 2 in 1 lash boosting eyeliner and serum. I actually can’t be without this liner, it is fantastic for creating the perfect winged liner. Second would be Make Up For Ever smoky extravagant mascara for creating super volumised and long lashes and finally it would have to be one of the above red lipsticks.
