Magazines often fail to feature plus sized women on the cover. It's a simple fact. Walk into your local newsagents and you'll be met by an array of striking covers that mostly feature thin women.

Stars like Kendall Jenner, Margot Robbie and Selena Gomez often dazzle on the front of the glossies, and yes, they look beautiful, but they are all of similar size.

Women have yearned to be skinny since what feels like the beginning of time. We grew up thinking there was only one way we should look and that was thin.

A post shared by @margotrobbie on

Of course, there is nothing wrong with being thin, but we need to celebrate other body types.

This month, Cosmopolitan featured Tess Holliday on the front cover. Tess Holliday is a size 24.

The magazine wanted to celebrate plus size women, but instead they were met with a wave of backlash with many people claiming they were promoting obesity.

Editor of Cosmopolitan Farrah Storr has hit back at the dismissive comments about what could be a historic cover for the publication.

During her appearance on Good Morning Britain, she explained her decision to put Tess on the cover: “This is one cover, which has a larger lady on the cover, in a sea, in a world, in a culture which has venerated – since I can remember – thinness.”

She does not believe featuring a size 24 woman on the cover will promote obesity.

“Are people going to look at that and go, ‘Do you know what? I’m going to go and mainline doughnuts, this is what I want for my life’. Of course not. It’s patronising to say,” she said.

“I’m celebrating her. I am not celebrating morbid obesity,” the author stressed.

The cover isn’t about promoting a certain size. It’s all about showing women that there are tons of different bodies out there.

It is showing women that you can look beautiful and feel confident, regardless of your size.

It is reassuring women who may feel self-conscious or undesirable because of their weight.

The Cosmopolitan cover is opening the world’s eyes to all the different types of beauty there are that never made it to the glossy pages of women’s magazines until now.

The final festival of the Irish summer is fast approaching, and the thought of packing for it is already exhausting.

We’ve decided to make things a little easier for you by rounding up our festival beauty essentials list, so you don’t even have to think about what to add to the contents of your beauty bag.

NOTE Ultra Black Dipliner €5.95,  PS… Brow Gel Mascara, €1.50

Starting with the eyes, most of us like to slather on the eye makeup for a festival, to make a statement without a huge amount of effort.

If you want to look ‘done’ without a full face, then a lashing of mascara teamed with these two products is the way to go.

First up, a simple brow gel from Penneys much-loved PS… range (which is now certified cruelty-free, btw). This gel is tinted, adding definition to sparse brows while tidying fuller ones.

To make tired. three-day-weekend eyes stand out, a slick and flick of winged liner will do the trick, and NOTE Cosmetics does a douzy of one, in an ultra-black opaque formulation.

e.l.f. Aqua Beauty Molten Liquid Eyeshadow €7.25, KISS Blow Out Lash €6.00

For an elevated eye look, we’re all about the one step eyeshadow. At a festival, there’s no time to be faffing about with cut creases and blending.

e.l.f has launched a range of metallic liquid eyeshadows, for a shimmery eye look in one brush stroke. It’s also enriched with Purified Water and Vitamin E to help hydrate the skin – essential at a festival for tired eyes.

If you’re not a lash extensions gal, a pair of fluffy eyelashes can take your festival makeup look from afternoon bop to rave in the woods real quick.

We’re hankering after the new Blow Out Lash line from KISS, who are bringing you the wispy lash look on a budget.

PrettyLittleThing In your dreams tahitian gold face gems €9.80

For some added sparkle and as a finishing touch, we’re all about the face gems.

While the more the merrier seems to be the look du jour, there’s nothing wrong with a more subtle sparkle – like these Tahitian games from PrettyLittleThing.

With just 3 gem clusters making up the set, it’s a classic but low maintenance festival look.

Uriage Thermal Water Spray 50ml €5.00, Garnier Skin Naturals Quilted Cleansing Wipes €2.49, PAYOT Déodorant Fraîcheur Energisant €13.95

While makeup is a pleasant addition to a festival look, we also need a few other beauty essentials in our arsenal.

If we’re lucky enough to get hot weather, a refreshing cool-down thermal spray is a must have to avoid dried-out skin and general over heating. Uriage Thermal Water Spray has the highest concentration of minerals and trace elements of any spray out there, so we’re packing a mini version in our side pocket.

Makeup removal can be a tall order when you’re falling into a tent at 5am, so frankly while we know makeup wipes are a skin sin, you can’t really pack a festival makeup bag without them. We’re opting for these Garnier Cleansing Wipes that even take off waterproof makeup.

Lastly, we want to take a really good deodorant with us (just in case the queue for the showers is outrageous). PAYOT Déodorant Fraîcheur Energisant has the most divine scent of bamboo and green tea, keeping us fresh to death all weekend long.

Redken’s Color Extend Blondage Shampoo €11.95, Garnier Fresh-Mix Face Sheet Shot Mask With Vitamin C €5.95 from pharmacies

Now, once you manage to drag yourself home on the Monday, you may want to take on some pampering tasks to make you look human again for work on Tuesday (S.O.S).

First up is a shower, obviously, but while you’re in there blondies, you may want to take account of the damage your processed locks could have acquired from three days of sun. Redken’s Color Extend Blondage Shampoo banishes brassiness and will have your blonde looking so fresh it will seem like you stepped out of a Stradbally salon rather than a field.

Once the kettle is boiling and you have the hair up in a towel, it’s time to address the skin issue. Understandably, once all the glitter has been washed away, your skin may resemble a mountain precipice – slightly grey and a little bumpy after three days and nights of drinking.

A serum infused sheet mask will sort you right out, and we’re lusting after the good work of Garnier, who have served up a Vitamin C Shot Tissue Mask.

Vitamin C is a skin saviour, with anti ageing and brightening benefits. If your skin cant wait, you could even pop it on on the bus home from the festival.

Festival beauty bag, sorted.

We're all a little bit guilty of using the aul filter a bit too much when we're uploading our snaps to Instagram.

Magazine covers are photoshopped and social media is filled with images that have been tweaked and edited.

Unfortunately, we rarely see what people actually look like.

Thankfully, Urban Decay have taken to Instagram to show un-retouched skin, and it's actually very important.

The brand have chosen models with skin texture, freckles, and actual, visible pores. (Yes!)

The images are beautifully striking and show off Urban Decay's products in all of their glory – without any filters altering them.

The response that the images have gotten on social media says it all – people want to see more of reality when it comes to beauty.

People took to social media to express their delight, writing, ''finally the beautiful reality is revealed. No more plastic photoshop surgery. Way to go!'' and ''I love seeing real skin texture!''

Another person said, ''this is unedited picture is both a delight to look at and a confidence present for all the girls in the world.''

It's about time that major make-up brands are taking steps to highlight people who aren't naturally flawless (which is all of us btw).

Scars, freckles, lines, sun spots, line is what makes us all unique, so maybe it will make people think twice about popping a filter on every time.

And hopefully other brands will follow Urban Decay's footsteps because we think it looks unreaaal!

We all love a good aul bargain. Especially when it's a beauty bargain.

Like, with a customised facial costing up to €150 at a Dublin spa, and a vampire facial costing €450 in some places, it's expensive trying to keep our skin nice and supple.

To combat this and inject some everyday luxury into beauty routines, Dealz has today launched its own skincare range, #6.

"Everyone wants to look good for less, and we spent a long time ironing out the wrinkles to develop a fantastic skincare range to fit all budgets," Holly Mobley, Dealz Head of Glamour, said.

"We set out to challenge expectations, we want customers to feel like they are buying a bit of luxury without breaking the bank and are confident #6 hits the mark for beauty addicts and skincare novices alike."

Described as the perfect number for your skin and tipped to rival household name beauty brands, #6 is a complete six-piece skincare range.

The range features "premium quality products in luxurious packaging that will take pride of place in beauty collections for a fraction of the price".

From anti-ageing day cream to collagen filler, the products contain ingredients such as ceramide, vitamins A & E, sweet almond oil and algae extract, with gentle formulations suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin.

The full #6 range is available in Dealz stores nationwide from today, with all products in the range for just €1.50.

Time on my own is a rare luxury – busy gals, do you feel me?

As a young parent, journalist, and fitness junkie, my days are jam-packed.

And given my schedule, it’s entirely fair to say my nail care is firmly last on my to-do list.

Day One

I was unfazed about my non-existent routine; after all, I was already caring for my skin and hair… not to mention another human being too.

On the odd occasion that I did treat myself, my nails would be a hot mess in two or three days with peeling and chipping – so I gave up.

That is until I spoke to nail guru Marian Newman at a CND Shellac Luxe event.

To say that my nails were an embarrassment is an understatement.

I continually apologised to the nail technician, who I believe has magical powers.

She turned my "children nails", as my sister has kindly nicknamed them, into professional, gorgeous-looking nails.

Granted, my nails aren't anywhere near the amazing specimens that are featured on my Insta-feed – I am just your average 20-something-year-old with normal nails.

Day One

I selected Shellac Luxe 'Satin Slippers' which is a nude.

It's ideal for work and mum life as it is chic and sophisticated but strikes a feminine and pretty look.

An added bonus was Shellac Luxe promised not to destroy my nails and it could be removed in 60 seconds – (YES, 60 seconds!)

Additionally, given the science behind the formula and the 'Wiggle' technique, I was told I'd be well equipped for everyday life without chips or breaks.

The TEMPTATION is reallll #CNDLuxe

A post shared by CND (@cndworld) on

I won’t lie: I was VERY sceptical.

I am hard on my nails in general: I play tag rugby, attend Zumba and lift weights four times a week.

I use a push scooter to get to work (laugh now, but they're unreal) come rain or shine, and life with my four-year-old includes A LOT of painting, parks and hikes.

Week Two

However, this is how I got on with Shellac Luxe.

During the three weeks I had it on, I really put it to the test, and I have to confess – I was surprised.

My first chip came in the second week as I was lifting with a bar and caught my nail.

The rest of my nails maintained beautifully well until the end of the experiment though.

Week Three after scooting into work

The biggest thing I didn’t anticipate was how much I loved looking at my hands when my nails were done – I had forgotten what it felt like to have nice nails.

You can guarantee I was lapping up the nail compliments too.

CND were honest about the removal process which I did on my own, and I was SHOOK.

By the time I had finished wrapping the last nail, the first one was ready.

My nails were perfect, no damage or stress to the nail bed after three weeks of Shellac – I was very pleased.

I even got my nails done AGAIN, and I fear that I may become a nail junkie after this experience – please pray for my bank account.

If you're interested in trying out Shellac Luxe, you're in luck.

They've added 14 new shades for us to obsess over.

CND gives you beautiful Shellac with no compromises – even for those of us who have demanding lives and commitments.

Love Island’s Megan has opened up about her decision to have plastic surgery. The reality star has defended herself in an honest interview with Cosmopolitan UK.

She admitted that she didn’t get the procedures done to impress others, but for a much more empowering reason.

The former glamour model urged people to be less negative about plastic surgery, admitting she doesn’t think there is anything wrong with it.

“I think if you want to do something to make yourself more comfortable, then why not?” she said.

The 24-year-old stressed that she doesn’t consider herself a role model. “I did it for me and no-one else.”

Megan revealed that she has had a huge amount of procedures done in her life so far: "I got a boob job at 19, and had another one when I got older and had more money to upgrade the surgeon! And I had my nose done and my lips filled. And the teeth.”

The Love Island contestant said she has nothing to be ashamed of. She got those procedures done simply to boost her confidence: “I've done what I’ve done because it made me me feel confident and comfortable.”

Megan argued that society has no problem with women going to the hairdressers, nail salon or beauticians to boost their confidence, so what is wrong with her getting a procedure that makes her feel good about herself.

“I get my lips done because I feel better, it doesn’t have to be a massive deal,” she shared.

Megan came in fourth place in the Love Island finale on Monday night.

Okay, so we're a day late but why can't every day be National Lipstick Day?

From old Hollywood-glamour red pouts, to 1980's frosted pink pouts and Morticia Addams-style dark pouts, a good lipstick has the power to transform a mood/outfit/whole day.

So in honour of this timeless make-up staple, we did a whip around the office to see what lippies the team have stashed in their make up bags and why they wouldn't be seen without them…

Kat O'Connor, Staff Writer

My favourite is Mrs Mia Wallace by Urban Decay.

It's a gorgeous deep red and never fails to boost my confidence.

I'm not a huge makeup fan and prefer a natural look, but when I want to feel more glamorous I pop that on and I'm good to go.

Mrs Mia Wallace,Urban Decay, €15.45

Mary Byrne, MagicMum Editor

My go-to is a Rimmel lippie in a pinky shade.

Unfortunately, I've used it so often that the colour code has worn off and I'm not 100% sure what it's called.

I'm not really a lipstick type of person tbh, and I opt for the same one whether I'm heading to a gig or a wedding – why fix what's not broken?!

I love this one is because it also works really well as a blusher – it's got a lovely creamy, matte texture and blends in really well.

Jen McShane, MummyPages Editor

As I have so little time in the mornings, I want a lipstick that won't have vanished by the time I arrive at the office.

So I tend to favour a lip crayon – specifically Chanel's Le Rouge Crayon Del Couleur (€35).

It's really a two-in-one; a retractable twist that doubles as a liner and a lipstick.

The thin nib means you can outline your lips expertly and fill them in, on-the-go, in a hurry, wherever you are. It has a satin, yet ultra long-lasting, intense colour finish and despite the price tag, I have it in multiple shades – that's how good it is.

Chanel's Le Rouge Crayon Del Couleur, €35

Shayna Sappington, Editorial Intern

I love Mac's lipstick Twig.

It's a nice neutral colour you can wear everyday and looks different on everyone.

Their lipstick doesn't dry out my lips and always smells like vanilla.

MAC, Twig. €20.00

Aoife Loughnane,  Editorial Intern

Like Mary, I'm not a huge lipstick person mainly because anytime I've attempted to wear it in the past, I look like I've devoured a pot of strawberry jam.

However, I do love the Kate Moss Rimmel range – but I espesh love the Rimmel only 1 Matte Lipstick in nude.

It's also fantastic as a blush on the cheekbones – just a little dab last hours and it actually looks good.
