Here are just a few things to remember when your best friend gets a boyfriend:

Nothing will change
Yes, your friend will probably be all loved up and happy, but your friendship dynamic isn’t going to take a turn for the worse, unless you let it.

Make time
You will see less of each other but as long as you both make the effort to organise some time for just the two of you, you should be both fine.

Keep in touch
Sending a simple text can ensure the two of you stay connected.

Get to know her new man
While it might be awkward at first, it’s important that you do become friends with your best friend’s new man. Even if it does or doesn’t work out, it’s still best to make sure the two of you get off to a good start.

Be happy for her
It can be hard to listen to endless chatter of how great her boyfriend is but remember, it’s so much better to see your friend in a happy place than a sad one. And if you have to, fake happiness, she would do the same for you.

Let’s face it, most of us don’t have one best friend, we just have a group of many best friends.

Childhood best friend
She’s been there as long as you can remember. You probably met her at school and you can’t imagine your life without her. She’s been there for every big moment in your life so far and will be there for the rest that are to come.

Frenemy
At this stage, you would like to think you’ve matured beyond the stage of having a “frenemy”. But unfortunately, every friend group has one. You probably tolerate her because she is your best friends’ friend and hope in time you will grow to love her as much your friend does. You hope.

Opposite best friend
You love her but you’re constantly questioning how you two became best friends in the first place. Your messy, she’s neat, you love Ryan Gosling and she prefers Johnny Depp. But somehow it weirdly works out.

Your twin best friend
The two of you have made some weird connection and are practically in sync with one another. You wear the same clothes unintentionally and practically say the same things all of the time. It’s no surprise that people have mistaken you both for sisters.

The best thing you can do for your friend after their break-up is say “Tell me if there’s anything I can do to make you feel better” and genuinely mean it. Let them know you’re there for a midnight phonecall and that you’ll have a bottle of wine on stand-by if they just want to hang out.

Avoid doing these things:

  • Comparing it to our own experiences. No two situations are the same and she doesn’t want to hear about how amazingly you handled it when she feels like crap.
  • Ask them sensitive questions. Tell them they can talk about it whenever they want, but don’t actually pry. Asking intimate questions about the relationship, the break-up and how they’re feeling just forces your friend to confront upsetting situations.
  • Not actually listening. If they say they don’t want to talk about, respect that. You may want to get the details, but this isn’t about you. They’ll talk when they’re ready.

Just let them know that they have someone there when they need it and you’ll be doing the best thing you possibly could.

Everyone loves candles that smell amazing and there are some great budget-friendly ones out there.

7. Books
Books can be personal and not too expensive if you do it right. Check online for cheaper prices and write a note on the inside jacket.

8. Hot chocolate set
Buy a cute mug, some hot chocolate mixture, marshmallows and a spoon and wrap it all up.
