It should all be relatively simple: you're definitely a catch of sorts – reasonably good-looking, with a 2:1 degree in your back-pocket and a dry sense of humour that you're particularly proud of.

OK; you're not everyone's cup of tea (no one can please everyone) but you've plenty of great friends and your major flaws are relatively limited (a-jar-of-Nutella-in-one-sitting habit aside).

So why are you still single? Why are so many guys out there a serious let-down?

It's not that you're DYING to do the whole wedding and babies and mortgage thing any time soon. And granted, your mam heralding the arrival of your 26th birthday with cries of 'I'll never have any grandkids,' was embarrassingly OTT.

But somewhere at the back of your mind you know it's probably a good idea to start keeping an eye out for your lucky chosen one (lest Zac Efron not be available for marriage circa 2023).

Now US author Jon Birger has released a no-nonsense, full breakdown of why you're single: Date-onomics: How Dating Became A Lopsided Numbers Game.

He says he was compelled to research and write the book after noticing his single gal pals were always complaining that “guys were ignoring them or were toying with them”.

New York resident Jon is a financial writer for the likes of Fortune and TIME. He crunched demographic, census and other data to show that you're not just imagining it: it really is historically rough out there for the ladies.

In conclusion, and after much investigation, Mr Birger reckons there are eight reasons why women can’t find a man.

The book is definitely directed more specifically at an American readership, AND while we're don't necessarily agree with everything he says, here at SHEmazing! we also reckon there's a lot us Irish gals can learn from Jon's observations…

So, without further ado, here's why you're single…

1) You live in Dublin

The divorce rate is higher than anywhere else; you’re more likely to be single in your 30s, AND there are just more women knocking around. In fact, in all urban areas in Ireland, men are outnumbered – meaning you want to consider a day-trip to the countryside (if not an actual change of address) to meet that special guy.

2) You do the wrong college course

When it comes to education, females trump the boys pretty much every time: last year girls did better in 50 out of 59 Leaving Cert papers.

That means our third-level colleges and universities are disproportionately full of women – by a ratio of 57:43, in fact.

“Facebook did a study a few years ago on how couples met, and it turned out that 25 percent met their significant others in college or grad school,” Mr Birger says.

So, you want to increase your chances of finding The One? Opt for courses such as computer science, engineering and agriculture – which are still male-dominated.

3) The men are playing you

As reported by numerous publications, Jon highlights that dating is out with younger people and hookup culture is in. He also reckons that with the gender imbalance on college campuses, men are “having a field day”.

And so he issues a warning: the longer a girl settles for casual sex as opposed to a long-term relationship, the more chance she has of ending up alone.

4) You’re not issuing an ultimatum

“Ultimatums work in business and politics,” Mr Birger reckons. “This notion that the only area of life you shouldn’t issue an ultimatum in is romance doesn’t make sense.”

Indeed, researcher John Molloy interviewed 3,000 couples right after they got married and found that 60 percent of the women were prepared to walk away if their guy suddenly declared he wasn’t ready.

5) You’re not making the first move

Go-get-em women are the ones more likely to get the guy. Mr Birger cites a premarital counsellor who told him that “of the nine couples he had in counselling, seven of them shared a similar story: the guys all had several options, but they married the women who pursued them the most”.

And ladies, don’t worry about turning off guys by being too pushy. “It’s a myth that men enjoy the chase,” the author adds.

6) You’re working in the wrong job

Slaving away in PR, education, nursing, event planning or other female-dominant fields? Time to get a new job!

That’s because around one in ten of us meet our spouse at work.

Some careers to consider instead: mechanical engineering, IT, and financial advising.

7) You’re too religious

“People who leave organised religion are disproportionately male,” Mr Birger reckons. “Atheists and agnostics are also disproportionately male.”

8) You’re too picky

“For the women who wait [to settle down], the dating pool gets much, much worse,” Jon warns.

He likens it to a game of musical chairs. In the first round, fresh into the dating market, nearly every woman gets a chair. By the final round, the chances of losing soar to 50 percent.

The author actually says if we were all more “open-minded about who we dated,” it would be less of an issue, but these days “both men and women have become more rigid about dating across socioeconomic boundaries”.

So to find a mate, women with a Masters degree should consider dating someone from a working-class background with limited formal education.

Beyoncé may have fallen behind Kim in the Instagram followers stakes, but maybe that's because she's been saving all her best photos for her official website.

A quick look through Beyonce.com throws up loads of recent family holiday snaps, only a few of which have made it to Instagram.

Bey spent what looked like a glorious few days sailing around the East Coast shoreline with husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy, and the photo album, titled 'My Life,' offers a rare look into the lives of one of the music industry's most private couples.

The Queen B also blessed us with this no make-up selfie, showing her fresh-faced and totally #flawless.

Those lips!

Another favourite is this sweet (albeit blurry) snap of Beyonce and three-year-old Blue Ivy having a little cuddle on board, with the New York skyline in the background.

And here's Beyoncé looking downright amazing in her black-and-white snakeskin print one piece. If we had a booty like that, we'd be showing it off all the time too.

The notoriously private singer came under criticism this month for refusing to give an interview alongside her Vogue September issue cover shoot.

Every celeb who has graced the magazine's coveted cover has given some form of interview, most of them in-depth profiles with exclusive quotes. And while Beyoncé did indeed sit down with a reporter for her previous cover appearances in 2009 and 2013, she mysteriously refused to do so this time.

In fact a member of the singer's team recently revealed that Beyoncé had not answered a direct question to a journalist in more than a year, choosing to only do interviews via email.

Seems like she is content to let her pictures do the talking from now on…

Kim Kardashian is often regarded as the queen of social media and today that has been made pretty much official.

Since signing up to the photo-sharing service Kim and Beyoncé have always been neck-and-neck in terms of rallying up the Instagram troops – but now the reality television star has now come out in front, becoming the world's most followed individual.

As both edged closer towards an astonishing 44million followers, it was hard to know who was going to hit the mark first… but Kim was victorious and now Beyoncé trails by just 100,000 (a drop in the ocean by their standards).

Although, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star's could have a lot to do with how much information she shares with the world: she rarely holds anything back and even posted a naked selfie recently to prove her pregnancy.

Beyoncé, on the other hand, is quite private as she rarely even posts a caption with her photographs. And a lot of what she does post are professionally taken pictures for glossy magazines.

Kim's sisters Kendall, Kylie and Khloe join her in the top ten, with her mother and older sis Kourtney trailing behind in the top 20.

Although Kim seems to be taking over the world one social media platform at a time, an inside has told Times Live that Kris Jenner thinks Kylie will outshine Kim soon.

Kris was one of the guests in attendance at Jennifer Lawrence's birthday bash over the weekend and it is said that she spent the night gushing about the youngest of the clan.

The source said: "Kris spent much of the night proudly talking about her daughters and how much people loved them. Kris also went on and on about how Kylie is going to be even more popular and famous than Kim, as she's already much more famous at 18 than Kim was.''

And another source told HollywoodLife.com: ''All her life, Kylie's been groomed for stardom and Kris knows it. She thinks Kylie's relationship with Tyga could quite possibly pull in more viewers and be bigger than Kim and Kanye's wedding.

''If that were to happen, Kris would flirt with the idea of having Kylie and Tyga do their own show, if they're willing.''

As fashion's most high-profile publication, Vogue US definitely has a lot of pulling power when it comes to celebrities.

Every celeb who has graced the magazine's coveted cover has given some form of interview, most of them in-depth profiles with exclusive quotes. And while Beyoncé did indeed sit down with a reporter for her previous cover appearances in 2009 and 2013, she mysteriously refused to do so this time.

The singer appears on Vogue's September 2015 cover, which at 832 pages is Condé Nast's biggest and most anticipated issue of the year. Rather than give in to the "you give us quotes, we give you coverage" trade, Beyoncé instead declined to answer even one question for the magazine, opting instead to only pose for photos.

In fact a member of the singer's team recently revealed that Beyoncé had not answered a direct question to a journalist in more than a year, choosing to only do interviews via email.

While she may not have spoken, the cover itself of course spectacular. Shot by Mario Testino and featuring Bey posing in a corset-style blush pink Marc Jacobs dress retailing at $12,000, it shows off her true superstar quality. In another shot, Beyoncé stands with her back to the camera, looking #flawless in a black lace couture Versace dress:

Vogue features a small essay in place of an interview, and writer Margo Jefferson said she was not even granted contact with Beyoncé's staff. "It was definitely posed to me as … call it a think piece if you want," Margo told the New York Times. "I had no contact with her camp."

So is her radio silence extreme shyness, or just a very smart business move? Margo believes it's the latter. "She has to be studying how effective her interviews have been so far. She may have decided that they do not contribute as dazzlingly to the portrait of Beyoncé as the other stuff. It’s a perfectly reasonable decision," she concedes.

Despite her refusal to interact with the media, Beyoncé is still the most successful singer out there. Last year she topped the Forbes list of the highest-earning female in music, having earned a whopping $115 million, almost double her earnings from the year before and $51m more than her closest rival, Taylor Swift.

On social media, she is rivalled only by Kim Kardashian in terms of Instagram followers (the pair both currently have 43.7m each).

Perhaps Beyoncé has reached a point where she simply doesn't have to pander to the media anymore? Somehow we can't imagine Kim Kardashian ever getting to that level…

We honestly didn’t think that celebrity feuds could get any more high profile than Katy and Taylor, or maybe even Kylie and Tyga’s baby momma, but it seems we were wrong.

Iron Man actress Gwyneth Paltrow has taken things to another level as it seems that she is none too pleased with former bestie Beyoncé. The Crazy in Love singer has got herself into Gwyneth’s bad books due to her relationship with Madonna.

Yes. Madonna.

A source has said that “Beyoncé and Gwyneth are not friends at the moment. Beyoncé’s staff has been openly discussing it.”

Apparently this has all come about after Beyoncé made an appearance in Madonna’s latest music video. The Mirror reports a source as saying: “Gwyneth hasn’t been happy with how close Beyoncé and Madonna have become. It was especially annoying to her that Beyoncé appeared in Madonna’s last video.”

The two become friends as a result of their significant other’s close relationship. Gwyneth’s ex-husband Chris Martin and Bey’s other half Jay Z are close friends.

The Sun reports that  following a bitter falling out between Bey and Gwyneth, an insider has said “Beyoncé has definitely switched allegiances.”

The unrest between Madonna and Gwyneth goes back as far as 2010, when it supposedly all kicked off after Madonna has a falling out with the pair’s mutual trainer, Tracey Anderson.

At the time Gwyneth even wrote a long post on her website Goop, which discussed failing friendships. She apparently referred to Madonna at the time as “an older sister” and talked about what happens “when you don’t like a friend anymore.”

Beyoncé was one of many stars to appear in Madonna’s latest music video, along with Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus.

We just can’t keep up with them anymore!

We all know by now that Beyoncé runs the world, but she just wanted to remind us all how important she really is.

The Crazy In Love singer made history as she is the first black female artist to land the coveted September issue cover of Vogue

After a reported leak, Vogue quickly released the picture on their Instagram page with the caption: "There’s only one September Issue, and there’s only one @beyonce.” Too right, we say!

And frankly the cover snap is everything we dreamed it would be… and more.

The sexy star wears her hair in a sleek, wet style while rocking a beautiful floral and lace dress by Marc Jacobs.

Marc commented on Queen Bey saying, "the most powerful thing about her persona is the unabashed pleasure she takes in her own body: its beauty, its power, its versatility".

The sultry photo shoot certainly shows a sexier side of Beyoncé and sees her really getting in touch with her sensuality.TAnd of course, the photos inside are just as stunning as the cover shot.

This announcement comes just in time for that good weather we are being promised for the weekend ahead.

Queen of Everything, Beyoncé Knowles has struck up a partnership with Flash tattoos. The Beyoncé pack will feature 5 sheets of the metallic transfer tattoos and you’ll never guess what the theme of he designs was chosen to be.

Bees. But of course. Considering her fans call themselves the ‘BeyHive’, we are not all that surprised at the inspirational choice.

In her video for Feeling Myself, Queen B can be spotted sporting a few of the pieces herself. The founder of Flash Tattoos Miranda Burnet has said they are “thrilled” to welcome B to their golden family.

Most of us gals strive to get the most from our makeup… and here at SHEmazing Towers, we have come across a quick and easy trick on how to make your eyes look bigger and brighter. Hurrah!

The secret is called "tightlining" and we've created the ultimate how-to guide to achieve the look…

Tightlining covers up the gap between your eyeliner and your lid which helps to open up your eyes and make them appear much bigger.

The first step in this process is to get a waterproof eyeliner. You can use any one that you're comfortable with but for best results we suggest you use a gel liner as it won't bleed or pull on your skin.

You have to use a waterproof eyeliner as you will be applying it to the wet part of your lid so if it runs you'll end up looking like The Joker… not such a sexy look.

The next step is to look down and with your finger gently pull your eyelid up and then draw on the upper waterline.

This method will take some practice so remember to stay calm and be as steady as you can. Also try not to blink as the eyeliner is drying.

DO NOT use an excessive amount of product or use too much force when applying it or else you will just end up with sore and stinging eyes. Ouch.

If you want an even bigger impact, release your lid and press another round of liner to your lash line. This step is optional but it's good for an evening-time or big event look.

To finish off your look, apply a few layers of mascara and BAM!… next level eye make up has been achieved!

We've all been there, feeling a little guilty because maybe we splashed out just a bit too much of our pay cheque on that pair of shoes we needed. But that doesn't seem to be a problem for international superstar Beyonce, she spent a huge €280,000 on a pair of stilettos.

The singer is well known for her amazing outfits, but this time she pulled out all the stops when she had an English jeweller sculpt these shoes to the exact shape of her foot.

The boss of the British company, House of Borgezie, has said that they have crafted a pair of princess constellation heels for Bey which weigh an outstanding 65.60 carats and are encrusted with 1,290 sparkling diamonds.

It is reported that these shoes are going to make an appearance in her upcoming music video

Chris, head of House of Borgezie, flew to LA to meet with Beyonce and measured her feet for the shoes for an astonishing four hours.

He said "The word had gone around and I had a call from her people a couple of months ago.

"I went to America and spent four hours measuring her feet. It has to be down to the millimetre, once they are done there is no going back.

When speaking about meeting Beyonce, Chris said "She was really down to earth and really lovely and was very happy with the shoes.

"Ive been told the stilettos are for her next video which should be out in the autumn."

The constellation collection was launched last pair and two pairs of the shoes have been sold so far, one to Beyonce and one to a mystery buyer in Dubai.

The shoes come with a lifetime guarantee so no need to worry about wrecking them on a night out.
