Kendall Jenner has opened up to Allure about her self-esteem issues surrounding her acne and skincare routine since she was 14-years-old.

She only revealed to the world last month that she is a long-time sufferer of the skin condition which plagues mainly young teens around the world.

Taking to Instagram back in January, she wrote to her fans; "While there are much bigger problems happening in the world, suffering from acne for me was debilitating. It’s something that I’ve dealt with since I was a young teen and has caused me to feel anxious, helpless and insecure."

She continued; "As humans, I don’t think we share our insecurities enough because we live in a time where being “perfect” is the standard. We curate our life online and pick the pretty moments to post. I’d like to show a younger generation that not everything is perfect."

Jenner's goal is to create a conversation surrounding image and insecurity; "I didn’t think I’d see the day where I would feel confident posting a makeup free picture. My goal is to open up a dialogue around skin positivity.

Now, she has stated that the online haters as well as her acne has made her cry for days in the past. We've all had a bit of a sob when a massive spot surfaces on the exact day you have an important event on, it's so cruel.

She revealed more about her young life to Allure;

"I've always struggled with a bit of acne since I was around 14. It killed a lot of self-esteem and I had to really work past that." She is also a person who detests when her pimples are pointed out to her, as we all are.

A break-out at the Golden Globes caused her endless stress, saying, "I was feeling good about myself, and then when people say mean things I'm like, 'I know I have a zit. I know I'm breaking out. You guys don't have to keep pointing it out. I obviously see that, but let me live.'"

Those people are legit the worst. Rude, much?

She admitted;

"I have cried endlessly for days because of things people have said to me, and I've had to become stronger through it. I mean, don't get me wrong: I am not superhuman. I definitely feel, and the things people say online are very hurtful."

We're happy for her that she's found a great skincare routine that works for her, and is starting the conversation. Young women are under such pressure to look picture perfect 24 hours a day.

“If you want to tone up and lose weight, move more and eat healthily. It’s a slower process than a full-on diet but the results show and last longer,” she added.

We love how honest Vogue is.

Our Instagram feeds have been flooded with posts about shedding the Christmas weight and the Kardashian clan are forever promoting diet shakes so there’s no doubt Vogue’s honest and positive post has made us and a lot of other women feel far better.

It's a pretty grim day, in an age when we are supposed to embrace our bodies and empower each other, people are STILL fat shaming.

Love Island's Megan Barton has a body of a goddess, but it doesn't stop the body shamers coming after her.

The 24-year-old stunned in a white dress that hugged her curves in all the right places.

However, in her Instagram stories, Megan posted a screenshot of a message from an Insta user.

The message showed a picture which had been on Megan's story, along with three words: "So fat now."

Megan slammed the body shamer and said people like that are the reason why a lot of young girls have issues with their bodies.

The Love Island babe wrote: "Mate, it's people like this tool that are making young girls pick fault with themselves."

"How's she calling me fat at a size 10?! Girls embrace your curves," she added – you tell them, gal!

It's hard enough to accept our bodies, so if you've got nothing nice to say about someone else's bod – do everyone a favour and just don't comment.

There are few women out there who don't struggle with body image in some shape or form.

Between airbrushed models and #spon posts, we are constantly bombarded with unrealistic beauty expectations, which can in turn give us a skewed perception of our own self-image.

While we might look to certain influencers for inspiration or guidance, it's almost impossible not to compare ourselves to them in the process.

It's a vicious cycling of motivation vs self-loathing, and given that most of us are consuming an unholy amount of media on a daily basis, it's no surprise that a digital detox could do wonders for our self-confidence.

New research conducted at the Anglia Ruskin University has found that green space can work wonders when it comes to promoting a positive body image – and you don't even need to step outside.

In three studies, students at the university were shown photographs of both natural and built-up environments – the results of which showed that the exposure to the great outdoors, be that through reality or the viewing of an image, was of huge benefit to a person's self-image.

A fourth study involved members of the public walking in both environments around Hamstead Health and Primrose Hill – which also found that those walking in the natural environment displayed “significantly higher body appreciation.”

The research, published in the journal Body Image, claims that exposure to natural environments promotes respect for the body as well as a rejection of rigid ideas around appearance.

“There are several reasons why exposure to nature could be having this effect on positive body image,” says Viren Swami, Professor of Social Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University and lead author of the study.

“It might be that it distances people, physically and mentally, from appearance-focused situations that are one of the causes of negative body image.”

“Access to nature may also mean that individuals spend more time outdoors engaging in activities that focus attention on the body’s functionality rather than aesthetics.”

So, if you're feeling down about your appearance, ditch the phone and set a date with Mother Nature.

The art of taking a selfie has evolved with the growth of social media.

Gone are the days of snapping a half decent, slightly pixelated photo and throwing it up for a laugh.

Instagram and Facebook has transformed the selfie game into finding the perfect lighting, facetuning and heavily filtering that all important snap.

Your selfie goes from zero to hero in a matter of taps – although the final product mightn't even look like you.

The time spent on fine tuning our images has garnered and branded our generation as a bunch of narcissists.

However, according to a recent study – we might be on to something, as selfies are actually good for your self-esteem.

In fact, they found extreme selfie-takers were more likely to feel better about their bodies compared to people who took fewer pictures.

Yes, you read that right – pose away guilt-free girl; it's good for your body image.

The study conducted by Fit Rated, took 1,000 Americans and analysed their body image, self-esteem and the importance of physical appearance based on their social media habits.

They were then split into three groups: the first was the 'non-user' who spent zero hours on the platforms.

The second was the 'average user' that spent an hour or two exploring the socials.

And, lastly the 'avid user' who browsed social media for three hours or more a day.

A post shared by Selena Gomez (@selenagomez) on

The results were a mixed bag.

Avid social media users did trump those who didn't use social media, in terms of self-esteem and satisfaction with their overall appearance.

However, the addicts of the platforms scored highest when asked how important their physical appearance is – (59.5 percent said their look was very to extremely important.)

The champ of social media came out as the average user.

They had the most self esteem and satisfaction overall with their appearance compared to the other two groups.

Selfie results

Moving back to selfies and these findings have us SHOOK.

Typing this in disbelief, I can report that the study found avid selfie takers have better self-esteem AND satisfaction with their overall appearance. – WHAT?

People who don’t take selfies have the lowest self-esteem (38 percent) and are most dissatisfied with their overall look (48 percent).

Selfie results

Fit Rated found that people who took more selfies on average – i.e. three or more every month were better off.

"More than half of people taking even just a couple of selfies (or more) each month were more likely to have high self-esteem compared to the nearly 45 percent not taking any at all."

"Additionally, almost 54 percent of people taking three or more selfies each month were satisfied with their overall look compared to less than half taking one or two selfies and under 38 percent of people who took none at all," said the study.

Selfie results

However, before you spam your feed with endless selfies – likes and the social media game comes into play.

Ever catch yourself repeatedly checking how well your recent picture did – well there's a dopamine hit for every heart or like we get.

This can impact our relationship with our bodies and self-esteem.

Supposedly, those who got 20 or more likes were more likely to rate their physical appearance as very or extremely important, particularly among women compared to men.

However, men and women who received a higher number of likes on their selfies also rated their self-esteem higher, and men who received a higher number of likes were more likely to be satisfied with their overall looks.

People were also hot on the button to delete a picture because of the lack of likes – incredibly the likeliness of this has increased by 185 percent in men and 110 percent in women.

A post shared by Gigi Hadid (@gigihadid) on

At the end of the day, we all must remind ourselves that 90 percent of what we see on social platforms are fake – people do not look like that in real life.

All you need to do for a reality check is to look up from the phone on the bus and have a look around.

Now, I'm off to post a selfie and pray that it gets more than 20 likes…

Emmy Rossum posted a bada** selfie on her Instagram, empowering women everywhere to focus on what really matters.

She officially joined the “I Weigh” movement, originally started by Jameela Jamil after a photo of the Kardashians was released with their weight plastered across their bodies.

The photo then asked people if Kim really looked like she weighed 56kg and asked to comment “which weight are you?!?”

Ya, we can't believe that happened either.

Jameela expressed her disgust at how women were being branded by their body size, replacing their identity with the number on a scale.

The Instagram influencer called this distorted view “toxic nonsense” and responded with a selfie, filled with descriptions of who she truly is:

“Lovely Relationship,” “Great Friends,” and “I laugh everyday” flood the background of her photo.

The Good Place actress gave the finger to judgemental haters with the words “F****** KG” in huge letters across the picture’s bottom.

Many women have been inspired by Jameela’s message and have proudly posted similar “I Weigh” photos.

The body celebration movement is exactly the type of positivity we need in our lives, reminding us that we are so much more than what the world labels us as.

Shameless actress Emmy Rossum wanted to be a part of Jameela’s movement as well.

“During my life the scale has told me that I’ve gained and lost […] in the range of 20 pounds. But that piece of metal doesn’t really know.

“Here is what I ACTUALLY WEIGH.” Emmy posted a selfie on her story labelled with facts about who she identifies as.

“Jewish and Proud,” “Drive,” “Animal Rescuer,” “100+ hours of television,” “One finished screenplay,” and “Countless hours of therapy” is splayed across her selfie.

The young star aims to encourage girls everywhere with Jameela’s message.

“So join me in this. Show people what you are actually made of,” Emmy writes.

“Because you are so much more than a f****** number.”

If you want to join Emmy and Jameela in this girl power movement, post a similar selfie and caption it with all the characteristics that truly comprise who you are.

Riverdale star Lili Reinhart has responded to pregnancy rumours with an empowering message about body image.

Rumours have been circulating that the actress was expecting after a candid snap of her was shared online.

The 21-year-old was extremely disheartened by the rumours and asked fans to remember that nobody is perfect.

A post shared by Lili Reinhart (@lilireinhart) on

Taking to her Instagram stories, the actress penned a touching message about accepting your body. She wrote, “It’s unfortunate that one unflattering photo of my stomach circulating the internet caused hundreds of people to think that I’m pregnant.”

The actress had to confirm that she was definitely not expecting a baby. “This is just my body. And sometimes I’m bloated. Sometimes an unflattering photo is taken of me.”

She added: “Sometimes I go through periods of time where I gain weight.”

A post shared by Lili Reinhart (@lilireinhart) on

Lili went on to say that she will never ever apologise for how her body looks- and we couldn’t agree more. No woman should have to say sorry for being a little bit bloated or be scrutinised for how they look.

“My body will constantly go through change, and so will yours. And that’s fine,” she expressed.

She told fans not to put so much time and effort into caring about a stranger’s figure.

Today, women are under more and more pressure to look ‘perfect’. Society expects us to look a certain way but it’s important to listen to Lili’s message. Every single body is different and that is perfectly fine.

Just when you thing it can't get worse, women are hit with yet another unrealistic body goal.

The latest craze? The toblerone tunnel.

Yeah, initially I hadn't a breeze what it was, but after a bit of research, discoveries were made.

This so-called tunnel refers to the little triangle of space between someone's upper thigh area.

You get it though right? The theory is that you could fit a Toblerone through the gap.

Honestly, I'm more likely to shovel a Toblerone into my gob, but hey.

Instagram is overflowing with celebs such as Cara De La Hoyde, Emily Ratajkowski and Holly Hagan all posting on their feeds with their Toblerone Tunnel on show.

For some reason, I'm particularly annoyed by this trend… if you'd even call it a trend.

From thigh gaps and 6 packs to massive lips and thigh brows, it feels like every few weeks there's something new and unrealistic to achieve.

And listen, if you have one of these things naturally, fair play to you, but I BEG you all not to go seeking these goals.

This new trend has received quite a bit of negative attention on Twitter, with loads of people outraged.

I'm actually not even sure you can diet and exercise your way to a Toblerone tunnel, so just don't try.

You're gorge the way you are, I promise.

Wearing a bathing suit or a bikini can be quite a daunting experience for many women.

We can’t help but feel exposed and self-conscious about the parts of our body that we aren’t too fond of. Giovanna Fletcher has penned the most inspiring post about why we all need to embrace our bodies for what they are because comparing yourself to others is a waste of time.

She posted a photo where she is wearing a black bathing suit and messing about in the pool in Disneyland. Holidaying in the happiest place on Earth may seem perfect, but those worries and self-conscious thoughts often prop up no matter where you are.

Talking about ‘real’ bodies can’t be done without body shaming those who have the bodies we’ve been relentlessly told we should strive to achieve, which really goes against what praising and embracing our different body shapes is meant to do in the first place. ‘Real’ bodies, ‘real’ women, ‘real’ mums… I’m pretty sure we’re all ‘real’ no matter our sizes, if we have flawless skin or cellulite and stretch marks, or if we’re an apple, pear, oval, diamond or hourglass. Our bodies should be seen as wonderfully unique, not something to be ashamed of – or something people might judge us over. Question actions and words, but not a body’s inability to ever achieve a thigh gap, someone’s muscular abs, slender frame or a wobbly bingo wing. I still have moments where I doubt myself, where I think before stripping down to my swimwear, but then I remember how much my body has given me (and continues to give me) and I decide to get into that blooming pool and splash around with my beautiful boys. Better than that, I love every second. Don’t let your body hold you back, whatever your shape and size. Don’t judge or compare. Be you… be the best you in that moment. Xxx

The author said that everyone has a ‘real’ body regardless of its shape. “We’re all ‘real’ no matter our sizes, if we have flawless skin or cellulite and stretch marks, or if we’re an apple, pear, oval, diamond or hourglass.”

She believes that we should all accept our bodies for what they are and not to waste time worrying about what we think they should look like.

Comparing ourselves to others is a pointless battle. “Our bodies should be seen as wonderfully unique, not something to be ashamed of – or something people might judge us over.”

The Billy and Me author admitted that she still has doubts about her looks. She admitted that she often feels nervous about wearing her swimwear, as many of us do, but we need to stop those thoughts from taking over.

There is one thing that helps Giovanna move passed those doubts, “I remember how much my body has given me (and continues to give me) and I decide to get into that blooming pool and splash around with my beautiful boys.”

She encouraged her followers to enjoy the moment, “Don’t let your body hold your back, whatever your shape and size. Don’t judge or compare. Be you… be the best you at that moment,” she shared.

Zoiey Smale, the winner of Miss UK 2017, has handed over her crown after pageant officials told her to “lose as much weight as she could” before competing at an international level.

After winning the title in June of this year, the 28-year-old was gearing up to represent her country at Miss United Continents in Ecuador next month.

However, the size 10 model has removed herself from the competition after international directors suggested she was too heavy to be a serious contender.

Speaking to The Independent, Zoiey revealed how the experience has prompted her to take a break form pageants, and instead use her voice to promote body-confidence.

“She [the UK director of Miss United Continents] told me every pageant has their own criteria but did tell me she wasn't happy with the international directors' decision,” she said.

“I can't represent a company that thinks it's OK to body shame women because they don't have the right measurements," she went on. "I was asked to submit every measurement on my body, which I didn't do. My measurements should be irrelevant.”

She added: “I thought I'd entered a competition supported the empowerment of women. But it went against everything that I stand for and it wasn't the pageant for me.”

Having first competed at the tender age of 18, this is the first time Zoiey has witnessed this kind of body-shaming in the pageant industry.

She ever revealed how winning three national titles helped her to battle an eating disorder she developed as a teenager.

“I used to hunch and make myself smaller to not stand out. I put pressure on myself to be as small as possible and developed a unhealthy view of myself and food.”

“Pageants were a place where they embraced my height so it helped me develop a love for myself. I didn't take them very seriously but I saw a side that was alien to me: empowerment.”

Following her revelations, Zoiey says she has received numerous emails praisng her descion to drop the title.

She may not get the chance to be crowned Miss United Continents, but she's still a Queen to us.
