You can't control waking up on the wrong side of the bed – but you CAN control what you do after you get out of it.

There are so many factors that can make your mornings less-than-ideal, like hitting a traffic jam or forgetting your umbrella when there's a downpour (I bet we all know that horrible feeling), but other little morning habits could make you start your day on the wrong foot.

Set yourself up for the best day possible by avoiding these morning behaviours:

Drinking coffee too early

Is there really ever a bad time for coffee? Well, yes, it turns out there is. Your energy levels rise naturally when you first wake up in the morning, so drinking coffee then causes an extra energy surge that can leave you jittery.

Instead, you'll reap in more benefits if you drink coffee at least an hour after you've gotten out of bed. That's when your energy levels begin to plummet, so coffee will keep you in check for the afternoon.

Your breakfast is too small

Grabbing a handful of berries and Greek yoghurt before you leave the house in the morning might sound like the perfect healthy breakfast, but something that small will set you up to binge in the afternoon or evening.

Not only is it just not enough food, but it's lacking in nutrients that are key to feeling full. Adding some fibre and protein into your first meal of the day will set you up for whatever the day has in store.

Checking your e-mails first thing

This one is a nasty habit that most of us are probably guilty of. Checking your inbox or social media the moment you open your eyes in the morning can set you up for stress all day.

Instead of worrying about what the world is going to throw at you first thing, focus on starting the morning with something calming, like exercise, sipping on tea or talking to your friend. This will actually help your body's productivity level and get your creative juices flowing.

If you thought that your brand new selfie stick was something to brag about then you might have to reconsider.

We are sorry to break it to you but the simple old selfie stick contraption is no longer going to cut it because all the cool kids are taking things one step further. The trend of arty food snaps is not going anywhere. To be honest, we find that on a scroll through Instagram or Facebook these days, colourful breakfast bowls are in fierce competition with the ever-popular selfie.

So, how do you take it to the next level and make sure selfie gets all the attention it undoubtedly deserves? You ditch the boring conventional selfie stick shot, and pair it with the ultimate foodies snap.

The breakfast selfie is now something that is happening.  Worried you might not be able to pull it off without getting poached egg in your hair or coffee on your winter scarf? Then you need look no further that the selfie spoon.

Mad props to anyone who can guess what this is.

The US cereal brand Cinnamon Toast Crunch unveiled their new wonder product in a gadget that is certainly trendy but the convenience of it still remains to be seen.

The design is very straightforward, a normal selfie stick, except the end that you hold also has a spoon attached. So a simple scoop and snap method are all you need for your morning photoshoot.

The brand promises that this is “really a thing” and “people will like your photos!” Thanks guys, there is one downside though, it only comes in purple. However, it is free, minus delivery.

In case you needed more convincing that this is the way of the future then let us have you know that they have already sold out once.

If you've been using a toaster every morning, we have news for you: you're making toast WRONG.

Yep, it's true.

Raquel Pelzel, Toasting Queen, released a new book called, Toast: A Cookbook, and in it she explains all the ins and outs of making the perfect piece of toast.

Speaking to Woman's Health, Raquel admits she uses a grill 90 percent of the time when she's making toast at home.

"This method of toasting adds the loveliest extra dimension of singed flavour from the grilling element," she says.

Plus, if you love big slices of toast (but get annoyed because they won't fit in the toaster), you can now make golden-brown delicious slices easily!

Here is Ms Pelzel's tried-and-true method:

1. Drizzle one side of the bread with either oil (olive, grapeseed, your pick!) or softened butter, then season with a few pinches of salt.

2. Position the rack on the top tier of the grill, 7 to 8 centimetres from the grilling element, and preheat to high.

3. Set the bread on a foil-lined baking sheet and grill until golden-brown (about two or three minutes).

4. Flip the bread slices, and toast the other side for about another minute or so.

5. Remember to watch the bread closely as you don't want it to burn!

Et viola! Perfect toast!

Ok, we know that it's a little bit more complicated and time-consuming than popping bread into a toaster, but hey, the results are SO worth it – especially the next time you want to make avocado toast!

Breakfast: the most important meal of the day. Around these parts we are big fans of breakfast food, huge fans. So anytime we stumble across a way to make our favourite meal time even better, we get excited.

We found some of the best hacks one the internet that are designed to make sure that you get the best from your morning meal.

Eggs:

No need to spend all morning slaving over the pan. Prep as many as you need for the day ahead by making as much scrambled egg as you like (with whatever veggies you desire) and then pour into either a greased muffin pan or cases. Cover with tin foil and pop in the fridge. Then feel free to press snooze with no guilt, at all.

Yoghurt:

Many fruit-flavoured yoghurts are filled with sugars, which means you’re not actually enjoying much fruity goodness. Try to swap to plain Greek yoghurt and use raisins, frozen berries, almonds or bananas and a little honey for flavour and goodness.

Cereal:

Flip the bag, or the whole box before you open it to make sure you don’t get stuck with just the crumbs or cereal dust towards the bottom of the bag.

Eggs and avocado bowls:

The breakfast of champions is right here and you if you like eggs and/or avocado you need to try this. Amazing.

Bacon:

Maybe this won’t necessarily save you a whole lot of time, but it will certainly make breakfast more fun, an essential for any bacon fan in your life. You can find it here.

Selfies:

Love selfies? Love breakfast? Well now you can have yourself plastered all over your favourite carb every morning. What a time to be alive. Have a look for this here.

Smoothies:

If you love smoothies save yourself some time in the mornings by chopping all your ingredients before in bulk and freezing them. Extra sleep, and delicious smoothies. Excellent.

Omlette:

You can make an omlette with hardly any clean up. Nobody likes spending hours doing dishes when we could be eating more breakfast, so check the recipe here.

Pancakes:

Use an empty squeeze bottle for your pancake batter so you can save yourself some mess and practice your pancake art skills.

Pancake rings:

A kind of-almost healthy breakfast option that everyone should try at least once, it might surprise you how much you love them. If you’re feeling

In case you missed it this week, McDonalds made the announcement that they want to introduce table service to their restaurants.

Not only that, but they are obviously making some serious efforts for their name to be associated with more elegant dining.

Their new ‘gourmet’ breakfast menu has been unveiled for the world to see, and they have included some unexpected items. Sourdough bread and wilted spinach? From McDonalds? Madness.

The menu is currently being tested outside of Brisbane in Austrailia, according to Burger Business.

A ‘Café Breakfast’ inspired string of products include; bacon, chipolata sausage (small pork sausages, FYI), scrambled eggs, grilled tomato, wilted spinach and our favourites Belgian waffles.

There’s also a bacon and egg roll, not just any kind though this is gourmet dining after all. This one comes on a toasted brioche roll with bacon, eggs, spinach and a tomato relish. Yum.

They’re also offering an avocado smash platter that has smashed avocado, spinach, sliced tomato and crumbled feta cheese.

There is rumours of a chorizo and egg brioche roll to be available on the menu. No more double cheeseburgers for the breakfast of champions then?

The upscale food offerings are sure to make the breakfast McMuffins look a little lacking, but it is hard to imagine that fancy spinach and avocados will soon be available via drive-thru but some people are still crying out for an all-day breakfast menu.

Ok so it’s the weekend and now we have a bit of extra time to prepare a delicious breakfast.

Usually we’re in a rush to get out the door in time to work, but today we want to make something delicious.

We have lined up some breakfast that you can get working on right away without all the calories.

Avocado Omelette

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 avocado
  • 6 cherry tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil
  • Sea salt

This is definitely what we’re making for brekkie today! This is so easy and it’s just a spin on the regular omelette. All you need to do is crack the eggs and add them to mashed avocado and chopped tomatoes.  Cook the mix on a non-stick frying pan until nicely firm and then crisp it up until the grill.

Wheat-free pancakes

  • 384g of ground almond
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 large eggs
  • 100ml of unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil

Thank god! We can have pancakes without the guilt, finally!

All you need to do is combine the ground almond, salt and baking soda in a bowl. In another bowl whisk the eggs, add the milk and oil together. Gradually mix the two bowls of ingredients together and add more milk if necessary. Cook with coconut oil on a frying pan for 3-4 minutes each side and serve with desired toppings.

5 ingredient granola bars

  • 120g of dates
  • 85g of honey
  • 85g of peanut butter
  • 120g of roasted almonds
  • 120g of rolled oats

Toast the rolled oats until golden brown – around 15 mins. Place oats, almonds and dates in a bowl. Warm peanut butter and honey in a pan on a very low heat and then pour oat mixture in on top.  Place evenly in a flat container and place in the fridge. Once set cut into bar squares.

Are you obsessed with peanut butter? We don't blame you, if you're trying to stay fit and healthy, it's probably your go-to snack.

Peanut butter is healthy while being tasty and filling – and these are just some of the reasons why we love it so much.

It's full of the "good fats" and antioxidant vitamin E, and we just can't get enough of it!

You may be content eating it with a spoon straight from the jar, but here are some other ways you can enjoy that peanut butter goodness.

1. On slices of fruit

Easiest and quickest way to get peanut butter into your body, other than straight from the spoon. Best fruit to enjoy peanut butter with include bananas, strawberries, kiwis and

2. In Pancakes

Peanut butter and banana pancakes are not only UNBELIEVABLY delicious, they are also extremely easy and quick to make. All you need is peanut butter, banana, baking powder and some eggs.

3. In porridge

This is a great way to make your morning brekkie a bit more exciting. A dollop of chunky peanut butter on top of microwaved oats and the boring bowl is transformed into the stuff of dreams.

4. On toast

So easy. So good.

5. In a smoothie

Added to any smoothie, peanut butter gives an extra thick consistency and crunchiness which fills you up for longer. We promise once you try this, you will never go back.

We all know how difficult it is to stay healthy when you're on the go.

After all, you need that extra time in bed or making yourself look half-decent, so spending time preparing breakfast is not on the agenda (we understand – us too). So we have compiled a list of breakfast ideas you can create in just ten minutes, which are seriously healthy too.

1. Over-night oats

These are ideal for people on the go as they take very little preparation time. Before heading to bed, just pop half a cup of oats in a bowl with half a cup of slim-line milk, put them in the fridge and they will expand over night. The next morning add toppings of your choosing, from strawberries and chia seeds to banana and peanut butter, you can make oats an exciting breakfast.

2. Banana pancakes

These flour-less wonders take minimum prep time and are delicious. All you need is one mashed banana and two whisked eggs. Add a little cinnamon and vanilla extract to the mix for some extra flavour. Drizzle agave syrup or honey on top to satisfy your sweet craving.

3. Smoothie

This one is extremely handy and there is a good chance you would have most of these ingredients hanging around the house. Celebrity trainer, Harley Pasternak, has devised the perfect breakfast smoothie containing almonds, apple, banana, Greek yoghurt, nonfat milk and cinnamon all blended together. This only takes five minutes to prepare but will keep you full up until lunch.

4. Breakfast muffins

Eggs & bacon breakfast muffins are the perfect meal prep food for anyone trying to eat healthy while on the go. Prepare these on a Sunday evening, cook them as you would regular muffins and they keep extremely well in the fridge. Eggs, some lean bacon and spinach is a great mix but you can be as adventurous as you like!

5. Avocado and eggs on toast

Keep breakfast simple with this five minute meal. Lightly toast a slice of whole grain bread, mash up some avocado and put a poached egg on top. Season with some black pepper and it's ready to eat.

Many people tend to skip breakfast because they can be in a rush in the morning. However, it is a very important meal and you should try your best to make time for it. Here are five reasons why you should never skip breakfast.

1. Focusing
Your body was fasting over night so your brain needs a top up of glucose to focus. This will make it much easier to concentrate.

2. A healthy heart
Breakfast can lower your blood pressure and reduce your risk of getting diabetes. The lower levels of cholesterol mean you are at less of a risk of getting heart disease.

3. Boost your immune system
Breakfast can activate your immune cells and help you fight common colds and flus.

4. Weight
Fasting can increase your body's insulin response, this can increase fat storage and weight gain. It also prevents over-eating and you will not be hungry and picking at unhealthy food throughout the day.

5. Energy
Eating a balance of carbohydrates, fiber and protein in your morning meal can give your energy levels a boost.

Involving unmentionables such as breakfast rolls with extra mayo, or two packets of crisps washed down with a sports drink, our breakfasts after a night-out are usually best forgotten.

Not so if you’re a gorgeous presenter, it seems. Laura Whitmore last night hit the decks at the glamorous Magnum Pink & Black launch at The Institute Of Contemporary Art in London – but this morning she was up bright and early for a yoga session. She afterwards shared an image of her post-workout breakfast: a plate of healthy salmon, spinach, poached egg, spirulina flakes, acai honey, cashews, seeds, and avocado.

Laura was joined at the event by Mollie King of The Saturdays, as well as model Jodie Kidd and fellow presenter and fashionista Donna Air, who attended without her long-term boyfriend James Middleton.

Just in time for summer, Mollie has now been announced as the face of the new Magnum range. She wore a full-length dress from Galvan, currently on sale for a cool €960.

Laura herself opted for a gold-coloured playsuit which perfectly showed off her toned legs. All the guests were allowed to indulge in delicious Magnums, dipped in an array of sweet toppings including rose kipetti, and raspberry sprinkles.

Jodie Kidd also attended the event in London

It was the second night-out in-a-row for the Co. Wicklow-native; on Tuesday she attended a Dsquared2 store launch, also in London. Mingling with Pixie Lott and and Liz Hurley, she wore a striking €2,215 patterned skirt from the Canadian label’s spring/summer collection, teamed with a white shirt.

Getting our five-a-day isn’t always easy and it’s even better to get even MORE than just five portions of fruit and veg a day – but how?

Here are some super simple ways you can fill your everyday diet with lots of fruit and veggies which are perfect for keeping your skin, body and mental health in peak condition.

Breakfast
Many people love having fruit for breakfast – in smoothies, on toast or stirred into their porridge. If you’re not one of these people then you need to be!

Porridge: Top your porridge with a whole chopped banana or some fresh berries and grated apple.

Toast: Skip the butter and grab some nut butter topped with chopped banana on toast. Perfect energy release for the long wait to lunch!

Smoothies: If you’re used to having primarily fruit in your smoothies then why not add some veg to up your intake? Kale, spinach, celery, cucumber and carrot all work really well in juices and smoothies.

Lunch
Everyone waits all morning in work and college for lunchtime – so make it a good (and healthy!) one.

Wraps: If you love a wrap for lunch, why not pack a salad and add the salad into the wrap yourself. Rather than filling up the entire wrap, fill half first and then the when you’re finished the other half. This will ensure you will fill up on the good veggies rather than the wrap.

Soup: This is a healthy option but sometimes soup that you buy in shops can be loaded with salt and often cream. Soup is incredibly easy to make in bulk and freezes very well. Make some soup loaded with veggies and place in individual lunchboxes in the freezer.

Sandwich: The best way to increase your intake of veggies in your lunchtime sandwich is to take out the majority of other things such as cheese. Half the cheese you would normally ask for and instead opt for extra lettuce, cucumber or tomato.

Dinner
It’s important at dinner that the biggest portion of your plate is taken up by vegetables, the other half divided into proteins and grains. Here is how to incorporate more fruit and veggies into dinnertime.

Spaghetti Bolognese: Cut your beef down and bulk up your Bolognese sauce with grated carrot, courgette and chopped spinach.

Curry: Sweet tastes always match perfectly with curry so accompany your dinner with mango rice – simply dice an entire mango into your rice. So easy!

Pizza: Frozen, homemade or delivery, it’s so easy to add more fruit and veg onto your pizza – mushrooms, pineapple, peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, courgette…the list goes on.
