First Caroline, now this: Rory McIlroy’s week just got a LOT worse
A casual game of soccer turned to disaster for Rory McIlroy on Saturday after he suffered a bad ankle injury that could rule him out of the upcoming British Open.
Although it's unconfirmed yet whether the Northern Irish golfer will be fit for the competition at St Andrew's next week, given the extent of his injuries it looks like it will be a close call. Rory took to Instagram this morning to share an update with his fans, posting a picture of himself looking sombre with crutches and an ankle brace:
"Total rupture of left ATFL (ankle ligament) and associated joint capsule damage in a soccer kickabout with friends on Saturday," he wrote. "Continuing to assess extent of injury and treatment plan day by day. Rehab already started….. Working hard to get back as soon as I can."
As for Rory's ex-fiancée Caroline Wozniacki, we're sure she's feeling a little bit smug today after what has been an incredible couple of weeks for her. Not only has she trashed three contenders in the Women's Singles at Wimbledon so far to make it into the last-16 stage, but she also finally seems to be moving on from Rory with someone new.
Caroline and Rory split last summer when the golfer suddenly called off their engagement during a seven-minute phone call. Tennis pro Caroline was left heartbroken, but a year on she has found love again with NFL player JJ Watt.
Now that Rory's been forced to take some time off, we wonder if he'll be checking out Caroline's latest Wimbledon match today from his sick bed…
