After almost two decades in the business, Britney Spears has been targeted from every angle by the media.

And while she defended herself against suggestions that she sexualised school uniforms and tirelessly fought against paparazzi invasion – with the help of a golf umbrella – it sounds like there's one thing Britney won't stand for.

And that's the suggestion she would ever employ a British accent during her comeback round.

According to TMZ, Britney's attorney has made contact with In Touch and advised them against publishing a story which suggests Britney was behaving erratically at the Video Music Awards in August.

Dismissing the claim that Brit was 'talking and laughing to herself and using a British accent', Brit's legal team has pledged to sue the magazine if they run the story.

With Britney doing her utmost to reestablish herself as a pop icon, the star's team have slammed the claim as "utterly false, highly defamatory and completely offensive to Ms. Spears."

But… but.. what's wrong with a British accent?!

If you're a die-hard Corrie fan, you'll have seen some things in your day.

From Sarah Louise's pregnancy at 13 and Richard Hillman's killing spree to that infamous tram crash and hostage situation, Coronation Street viewers are made of stern stuff when it comes to their soap storylines.

Or are they?

While they may be able to handle all of the above, it seems they struggle when it comes to a simple hook-up scene between two of the show's male characters.

"Homosexual scenes in #Corrie tonight were sickening. Most now tolerate this practice but we don’t need it rammed down our throats," wrote one member of the public.

Stunned that producers would give the go-ahead for a kissing scene between Billy Mayhew and Todd Grimshaw, viewers took to Twitter in the droves – and Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy, is furious.

Using the same medium as his critics, he tweeted: "Had many angry tweets saying "I'm disgusted my kids saw men kiss on tv"

"I'm disgusted they left it up tv to teach their kids how love works," the actor added in a post which has been liked thousands of times.

Thankfully, it looks like Daniel's outrage hasn't been in vain and he has since returned to Twitter to thank social media users for their support.

"Thanks for ur AMAZING messages! Let's not hate on the homophobes," he wrote before adding: "We're bigger than that. Hate breeds more hate. They need love & education."

Paying tribute to the actor today, one follower replied: "I'm bursting with pride for the way you handle all of that, thank you for being a good egg."

When Kim Kardashian decided to post a naked selfie earlier this year, she knew she'd light a fire under fellow celebrities, and now it sounds like Chloe Moretz regrets taking the bait.

Calling Kim out on her decision to go naked online, the Kick- Ass actress, who recently split with Brooklyn Beckham, wrote: "I truly hope you realize how important setting goals are for young women."

"Teaching them we have so much more to offer than just our bodies," she added.

Furious over the suggestion her wasn't using her role in the public eye appropriately, Kim hit back, writing: "Let's all welcome @ChloeGMoretz to twitter, since no one knows who she is. …"

And the spat didn't end there.

When the Kimye/Tay Tay saga was all anybody could talk about, Chloe begged for a little perspective, tweeting: "Everyone in this industry needs to get their heads out of a hole and look around to realise what's ACTUALLY happening in the REAL world,"

And we all know how Kim's sister Khloe responded to that particular dig…

With the benefit of hindsight, Chloe has decided, according to Glamour, that she wasted her time offering her opinion on Kim's exploits, saying: "I think I gave my attention to people that didn't deserve my attention."

"So in some ways I think I regret giving them the attention, though I don't regret what I said," she said recently.

Taking her inspiration from a presidential candidate, Chloe added: "But also I realised that being the most opinionated and loud person in the room is not always the most impactful. I learned that from Hillary Clinton."

"It's great to be feisty,' those were Hillary Clinton's exact words," Chloe explained. "But sometimes the smartest way to get into the psyche of people is to be the quietest person in the room."

"Let everyone else bicker and throw their words around and then you come in with the quiet voice and that will be the most impactful." 19-year-old Chloe advised.

Let's face it, a movie can have all the right ingredients and still fail to set the box office alight.

Case in point: Sea of Trees.

Directed by Good Will Hunting's Gus Van Sant and starring Oscar-winner Matthew McCaonaughey and Inception's Ken Watanabe, Sea of Trees seemed destined for great things, but after critics panned it, things definitely weren't looking good.

And it sounds like cinema-goers in the US have taken those reviews to heart, and steered totally clear of Matthew's latest flick.

According to emerging reports, Sea of Trees took in – wait for it – just $3,000 on its opening weekend – and you don't need to know much about box office figures to know that's about as abysmal as it gets.

Oh, and if you'd like the chance to find out what's so wrong with the movie, you mightn't even be given the opportunity as there is, as yet, no confirmation that the film will be heading across the water for a UK and Ireland release.

Walk it off Matthew, just walk it off.

Amy Schumer has opened up about the impact the murder of two women has had on her while being interviewed for Lena Dunham's Lenny Letter this week.

Upon learning that two women had been killed by a gunman during a screening of her film Trainwreck in Louisiana in 2015, Amy admitted she struggled to come to terms with the news.

"I mean, on paper it’s like yes, of course, yes, you connect to that, two women were murdered, you know," she said.

"But knowing it was my movie, and … that they went and they bought tickets and wanted to go see this movie, it just crushed me," she admitted.

The stand-up comedian grappled with a form of guilt in the aftermath of the incident, saying: "I felt so powerless. And it felt a little bit like something that I had done, that there was a connection to me actually hurting people."

Amy recalled receiving a text from Jennifer Lawrence after the incident which she insists brought her solace the time – something which many people might struggle to understand.

"You know, that is actually when I felt the closest to Jennifer Lawrence, because that day she texted me, ‘It’s your fault,’" Amy remembered.

"And in times like that only jokes make you feel a little better," Amy explained while Lena added: "Jennifer Lawrence texting ‘It’s your fault’ is like the greatest worst thing I ever heard."

33-year-old Jillian Johnson and 21-year-old Mayci Breaux were killed by John Russel Houser in July 2015.

There are very few of us who manage to navigate adult life without falling foul to a few moments of total idiocy.

Whether it's confusion over tax returns, bewilderment over car insurance or total bafflement over credit union loans – we all need a little helping hand in some matters,

And for Lauren Goodger, it's her TV licence.

Taking to Twitter yesterday, the reality TV star posed a question to her followers, and now people are struggling to believe she's made it this far in life.

"Man just knocked at my door for TV licence ? I paid there and then is this correct?" she asked.

And if that wasn't bad enough, poor ol' Lauren then admitted that she actually paid for something she already possessed, writing: "But I do actually have one? Does this happen normally."

Lauren's followers wasted no time telling her that this wasn't normal protocol, with one writing: "If I was u I wd ring police & to licence people & explain what's happened" (sic)

"Nooooooo lol that's not normal LG," replied her former co-star Vas Morgan.

Thankfully for Lauren, it doesn't sound like she'll be out of pocket for long as TV Licensing contacted her via Twitter asking for more further details before telling her they'd look into the matter for her.

Thank God for grown-ups.

Over the course of their five years together on Geordie Shore, it was hard to keep up with the goings on between Gary Beadle and Charlotte Crosby.

But one thing was for certain – Charlotte was definitely more invested in the relationship than Gary ever was.

And now it looks like Gary is accepting both that and the fact that his on-screen actions ultimately brought their on again / off again romance to a complete end.

Opening up during an interview with This Morning yesterday, the 28-year-old Geordie lad accepted that his antics while filming Ex on the Beach was the straw that broke the camel's back.

"It was me who messed up, I won't lie about that," he began. "We were kind of seeing each other again before I went on EOTB. I was like, look it will be make or break."

"Me being me went in there the first night, got drunk and got with someone," he admitted. "I knew straight away I'd messed things up with Charlotte."

He added: "Being drunk is not an excuse at all. If I hadn't have done that, I would have come back and we'd probably have been fine."

The professional party-boy accepts that filming together put a strain on their potential future together and sounds relieved that the drama surrounding them appears to have come to somewhat of an end.

"We had a crazy five years and there was a lot of pressure on our relationship," he said. "It would have taken one of us to leave Geordie Shore before we could both move on with our lives."

Anyone else still holding out hope their paths might cross again though?

Mortifying your siblings on social media is something we all tend to do from time to time, and it looks like Kylie Jenner is no different.

Taking to Instagram last night, the youngest Jenner sister shared a snap of a fairly ropey-looking Kourtney, and sarcastically captioned it 'Vibes'.

The photo, which shows a teen Kourt rocking a pretty dodgy blonde look, has been liked almost one million times, with Kylie's followers wasting no time calling the mum-of-three out on her questionable beauty choices.

Noticing the startling resemblance between the eldest Kardashian sister and Nirvana's late frontman, Kurt Cobain, one Instagram (brilliantly) commented: "Kourt Cobain."

Others fans were quick to question whether Kourtney had gone under the knife since this snap was taken, with one asking whether Kourt had had a nose job.

And in one particularly heartwrenching remark, one of Kylie's young followers tagged a friend and used Kourtney's photo as evidence that there's hope for everyone. (No, seriously.)

"See, she wasn't that hot as a teen but we WILL get hotter," she wrote, and now we're finding ourselves feeling weirdly emotional over Kourtney's 90s grunge look.

No? Just us?

We thought Adele was pretty damn impressive when she tried her hand at a bit of the ol' rapping during Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, but it looks like she might have some competition in the form of Millie Bobby Brown.

Millie has become an overnight sensation after nailing her role as Eleven in Stranger Things, and while we knew she had the acting and singing downpat, we had no idea she was so skilled in the rhymin' department.

While appearing on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show, the young British star was encouraged to showcase her skills during a game of Stranger Strings in which the young cast of the hit sci-fi show read out statements and guessed who they might apply to.

Sounder slicker than we ever could, Millie launched into the first verse of Nicki's Monster, and frankly we're all blown away.

Is it weird to be jealous of a 12-year-old?

Look, we'd be lying if we said a tiny part of us didn't wish our own lives mirrored that of the one John Legend and Chrissy Teigen share with their daughter Luna.

And judging by the response internet users gave a video Chrissy posted last night, we're definitely not alone.

Racking up more than two million views in just 11 hours, Instagram is all over footage of John playing O Tannembaum for his daughter as Chrissy cradles her.

Looking chill AF, the couple entertained their four-month-old daughter with the traditional German Christmas carol while the rest of us melted, and wished they could just adopt us.

"They are so perfect, I can't handle it," wrote one of Chrissy's followers this morning while another gushed: "This is my favorite video ever."

Ah lads, we can't cope.

Unless you're extremely fortunate, you're very likely to endure at least one horrendous first date over the course of your adult life.

And along with that stand-out stinker of a meeting, there are often dozens more dull, mundane, and mind-numbingly boring dates which are just part and parcel of the single gal's life.

But before you think the rich and famous amongst us get to skip these classic dating foul-ups, think again.

According to Britney Spears, having a few number one hits and a couple million in the bank doesn't make you immune to that awkward first date where the other person – and we're going to be kind here – simply isn't that into you.

Opening up during a recent interview with Marie Claire, the singer revealed she has endured the horror of realising she was much more into her date than vice versa.

"I had a really bad date. I mean, it was really bad," she admitted.

"I've been single for ages and had a date with a guy I liked. I was getting anxious, worrying he wouldn't like me," Brit continued.

Reflecting on the meeting, Britney said: "We went to the movies, but I could tell right away it wasn't working. It was sort of awkward."

"So after the movie I came home and that was it. He just wasn't that into me," she admitted. "I liked him. He knew that. But he definitely didn't feel the same."

Reminding us that we're not alone when it comes to those cringe-worthy dates – the memory of which have been known to keep us awake at night – Brit simply said: "It happens to everybody."

"Being famous doesn't make you any different."

Thanks for that, Brit. We feel so much better now.

Another day, another Justin Bieber saga.

If he's not stirring it up on social media, he's slamming his own band during live performances, and it doesn't sound like people are too impressed.

During a fairly ropey live set for BBC Radio One's Live Lounge, the singer dropped the F-bomb before calling his guitarist out on mistakes because, you know, he can.

Remarking on the musician's playing during Love Yourself, 22-year-old Justin told listeners: "He's broken his finger, so he's not usually this terrible."

Selena's ex took to Twitter to explain that hs nerves got the better of him during the performance, writing: "I don't usually get nervous but tonight I was thrown off and I was."

"Sorry about that," he added.  "Really wanted to be my best. Hope u all had fun."

Unfortunately for Justin, it doesn't sound like they did.

Taking to Twitter to comment on the set, one social media user wrote: "Justin Bieber sounds awful on live lounge, he's being so rude to the presenter too @BBCR1"

"Justin Bieber has zero crack and not an announce of personality," added another.

Ouch.
