They may have decided to momentarily press pause on the One Direction journey, but that doesn't mean the lads from the biggest boy band in the world didn't absolutely rake it in over the last 12 months.

According to Forbes, who provides the public with an annual list of the world's highest-earning celebrities, Niall, Louis, Liam and Harry, who rose to fame on The X Factor in 2010, were Europe's highest paid celebrities in 2016.

Yep, that's right – despite going on hiatus, the four lads raked in a staggering $110 million last year.

The earnings, which came from endorsements with Colgate and Pepsi in addition to the last leg of their On The Road Again tour, meant that they pipped footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, and our beloved Adele to the post when it came to bank balances.

The calculations are based on a number of rankings from organisations such as Nielsen, Pollstar, Box Office Mojo, Songkick and IMDB.

In a move which had Twitter users falling all over themselves this week, president-elect, Donald Trump, only went and thanked himself for what he considers a job well done.

Referring to a recent statistic, the billionaire business tycoon wrote: "The U.S. Consumer Confidence Index for December surged nearly four points to 113.7, THE HIGHEST LEVEL IN MORE THAN 15 YEARS! Thanks Donald!"

That's right – he actually wrote 'Thanks Donald'.

Unsurprisingly, Twitter have wasted no time ripping it out of Trump, and frankly they're doing an amazing job.

We'll let them take it from here…

Rory Cowan, who entertains millions with his role in Mrs Brown's Boys, has opened up about the barrage of homophobic abuse he has received on Twitter.

Speaking on Today with Katie Hannon on RTÉ Radio One, the popular actor revealed that he had been compared to prolific ex offender Jimmy Savile by online trolls.

Opening up about the extent of the online abuse, Rory admitted that the level of abuse he received left him shaken.

"This was so vicious and so quick, it was like a kick in the stomach," he told the show's host.

"I was actually sick to my stomach, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and all because of one response I gave to a tweet."

Elaborating on the nature of the anonymous tweets he received, Rory said: "One person said ‘I saw you at the hospital with the kids, shades of Jimmy Savile off you."

"If I had a child in hospital I would take them out if it they were going to be presented with people like you," the anonymous user added.

The actor confirmed that he has sought legal advice from his solicitor who, with the help of the Gardaí, is trying to establish whether the posts originated in Ireland or overseas.

Just days after she revealed that she had made it onto the Queen's New Year's Honours list, Victoria Beckham has been criticised for 'betraying etiquette' by leaking the news before its official unveiling.

Taking aim at the mum-of-four, whose contribution to charity and the fashion industry will be officially recognised next year, Tory MP Andrew Bridgen said that the star had discredited the system by revealing all.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he explained: "Nominees are sworn to secrecy, so she has broken the first rule of being offered the honour."

"It would appear to be a breach of protocol and perhaps raises questions over her suitability that she has leaked her own nomination. This further discredits our honours system."

Echoing Mr Bridgen, fellow Tory MP, Peter Bone, expressed distaste for Victoria's decision to breach protocol on the matter.

"It is certainly a betrayal of etiquette, it is just not done. It is just wrong and I don’t understand why anyone would leak something like that," he argued.

"To get an honour is extremely important and it might well be for a very good reason but you just don’t leak it. Full stop."

According to numerous media outlets, Victoria announced the news to her family during a vacation in the Maldives over the festive period.

"She is especially thrilled that her philanthropic work as a UNAIDS goodwill ambassador, creating a voice and awareness for women with HIV that suffer prejudice and discrimination has been recognised in this way," a source close to the family confirmed.

We'd say she's facepalming pretty hard today.

As far as millions of people are concerned, Grammy Award-winning group, Destiny's Child, consisted of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

But for the die-hard fans among us, we know that the group once included La Tavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett – both of whom featured in the band's earlier tracks including No,No,No and Bills, Bills, Bills.

And while there have been whisperings for years over the nature of the girls' departure, La Tavia's recent interview with People magazine confirms that the pair were dismissed – and had no idea it was coming.

Recalling the moment she realised she was no longer part of the band, LaTavia told the publication: "It was very difficult because of the way that I found out about it. I hate even talking about it, and it's been 20 years – but it is what it is."

"We saw the Say My Name video on TV, and that's how I found out I was no longer in the group," LaTavia, now 35, explained referring to the band's track which featured two new members Farrah and Michelle.

"I never left Destiny's Child. That is something that people say. But who would leave Destiny's Child? That's crazy! I was dismissed from the group." she added.

Explaining that her issue was with the band's manager, Mathew Knowles, La Tavia insists she regrets how the situation played out in the aftermath of her shock dismissal.

"It was very difficult. I'm pretty sure that it was difficult for all of us – because we were young. My issue was always with the management; it was never with the girls."

"You're no longer with your friends, people that you love so much. So that was hard in itself, and then being by myself at that time, when other aspects starting taking a hold of me, it led me into a depression. And it wasn't pretty," she admitted.

LaTavia insists she wishes her former bandmates well today.

As tributes pour in for Carrie Fisher following her untimely demise this week, cake company, Cinnabon, have been forced to apologise after posting a tasteless reference to the star.

In the wake of her death, the company were accused of commercialising death after creating an image of the iconic actress with the help of cinnamon and cinnamon rolls.

Alongside the image, the Twitter post contained a questionable reference which read: "RIP Carrie Fisher, you'll always have the best buns in the galaxy."

And, unsurprisingly, Twitter users were far from impressed with the company's decision to use the star's death to advertise their products.

"Never, never use a death to promote your brand. Poor taste," wrote one member of the public while another added: "Tacky. Get over yourself and stop capitalizing on the tragic loss of an icon."

Responding to the criticism, the company deleted the post before issuing an apology, writing: "Our deleted tweet was genuinely meant as a tribute, but we shouldn't have posted it. We are truly sorry."

Carrie Fisher's mother Debbie Reynolds passed away just days after her daughter's death this week.

Earlier this week Ariana Grande took to Twitter to draw attention to an incident which took place between herself and a male fan.

Recalling the exchange, the 23-year-old singer told Twitter that she felt 'sick and objectified' after the man referred to her in degrading manner while speaking to her DJ boyfriend Mac Miller.

In a lengthy post on social media, Ariana called on female fans to speak out against individuals who objectify them – something which didn't sit well with all of her followers

Responding to the post, a number of Twitter users suggested Ariana was guilty of 'hypocrisy' considering the outfits she wears on stage and in video shoots.

"Ariana Grande literally parades around mostly naked & then has the gall to complain about being objectified? Wow," wrote one of the singer's followers.

Refusing to ignore the criticism, the singer returned to Twitter to address the accusations, writing: "Seeing a lot of "but look how you portray yourself in videos and in your music! You're so sexual!" ….

"I repeat expressing sexuality in art is not an invitation for disrespect !!! just like wearing a short skirt is not asking for assault."

"Women's choice. our bodies, our clothing, our music, our personalities….. sexy, flirty, fun. it is not. an open. invitation," she hammered home in a post which has amassed 98,000 likes.

"You are literally saying that if we look a certain way, we are yours to take. But we are not!!! It's our right to express ourselves," she finished.

Supporting Ariana, a fan of the star agreed with her stance, writing: "Her body, her choice and she deserves to be respected no matter what."

Agreed.

In a heartfelt and lengthy post on Twitter today, Ariana Grande has urged her fanbase to consider the implications of remarks they make towards women after she endured an upsetting encounter with a male fan.

Explaining that she and her boyfriend, Mac Miller, had bumped into a fan while picking up some food, Ariana went on to reveal that the exchange turned sour when the fan made degrading comments about the popular singer.

"He was loud and excited and by the time M was seated in the driver's seat, he was literally almost in the car with us," Ariana recalled.

"I thought all of this was cute and exciting until he said 'Ariana is sexy as hell man. I see you, I see you hitting that!!!'"

"Hitting that? The f**k??" Ariana continued in the post which has racked up 130,000 likes.

"This may not seem like a big deal to some of you but I felt sick and objectified. I was also sitting right there when he said it."

"It hurts my heart that so many young people are so comfortable using these phrases and objectifyin women with such ease," she wrote.

"I am not a piece of meat that a man gets to utilize for his pleasure. I'm an adult human being in a relationship with a man who treats me with love and respect."

Urging women to speak out against such behaviour, Ariana continued: "We need to talk about these moments openly because they are harmful and they live on inside of us as shame."

"We need to share and be vocal when something makes up feel uncomfortable because if we don't, it will just continue. We are not objects or prizes. We are QUEENS."

Ariana's post has been inundated with support since its upload eight hours ago, with one fan writing: "I actually respect the hell out of you for using your platform to speak up."

"I don't know if anyone has told you recently but you're amazing, loved and very appreciated," added another.
