There's no question that having an unfaithful past can truly damage a person's reputation when it comes to future romantic endeavours.

A history of infidelity can lead to trust issues in relationships as the phrase 'once a cheater, always a cheater' echoes through the mind of your new partner.

And while that may not always be the case, some scientific research has suggested there could actually be some truth behind the old saying.

A study, published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behaviour, saw researchers follow 484 participants in heterosexual relationships.

As part of the study, participants were asked to report their own "extra-dyadic sexual involvement" (sexual relations with someone other than their partner), and whether or not they had been suspicious of their partner's infidelity in each relationship they had been in.

Researchers found that people who had cheated on their partners in their first relationship were three times more likely to cheat in their next, compared to those who had remained faithful.

What's more, those who knew they had been cheated on were 50 per cent more likely to have experience infidelity in their next relationship.

So, while the same can't be said for every individual, it seems the 'cheater' reputation might stick around for a reason.

In a world of Tinder and online dating, it’s now easier than ever to embark on an illicit relationship outside of your own while keeping your partner none the wiser.

Luckily, there is a special place on Twitter (and in hell) where cheaters get caught out on their sneakiness, as well as an app for catching cheating spouses.

Suspect your partner of some cyber two-timing? Twitter page Are They Loyal? is here to help.

The page, which is awash with hilarious memes and relationship observations, also provides a specific service to help catch out a possibly cheating boyfriend or girlfriend.

Once you give them your partner’s details, they will text them with an attractive photo of a random person, and ask them to meet up, essentially catfishing them into proving their loyalty.

The page then publishes the short conversations onto Twitter for the world to see, calling out the cheaters and praising the loyal.

The page has over 210,000 followers who log on to see the latest cheating scandals and even send in some of their own to be posted.

The page has been branded “psycho” by commentators. “This isn’t funny, being this jealous is unhealthy and toxic,” said one.

However, others praise the page for promoting faithfulness and calling out cheaters on their two-timing ways.

Sofia Richie and Scott Disick have reportedly called time on their relationship almost one year after they were first rumoured to be seeing each other.

It's understood that Sofia broke it off after Scott was caught getting close to a mystery woman just days after the couple returned from a romantic holiday to celebrate the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star's 35th birthday.

The insider added to E! News: "Her dad got to her and was a major influence. He told her enough is enough and she deserves better than this. He told her to come home and she did.

Happy Birthday babe! Thank you for being you. Love you

"She is upset and sad but feels like she had no choice and she couldn't stand for being cheated on and being in such a toxic relationship.

"She is relying on her family for support and they are trying to keep her busy. She is spending her time with them and with her close friends.”

The news comes after Scott's ex, Kourtney Kardashian, said she finally trusts Sophia to be around her children.

A source said at the time: "It helps that Kourtney now trusts Sofia. The kids are allowed to spend time with her. Sofia likes having them and helps Scott. So far, the kids are giving Kourtney good reports about Sofia.

"Sofia has shown over and over again that she is willing to stay with Scott even when things are not great – but Scott is doing well lately. [He] isn't really partying and spends a lot of time with his kids."

“Scott seems fine,” they said. “He even thinks she might change her mind. He isn’t really taking it seriously.”

Kim Kardashian has finally broken her silence on the allegations that Tristan Thompson cheated on Khloé shortly before she welcomed their daughter, True.

On the Ellen DeGeneres Show, the talk show host started off by saying "Poor Khloé."

"Poor Khloé," Kim echoed, before Ellen asked her about Tristan's alleged infidelity. The NBA star was supposedly caught on camera being unfaithful.

"I think everybody was heartbroken for [Khloé]," Ellen said of the new mum, "I mean, literally days before she gives birth her boyfriend is seen on video, cheating. And uh… you have opinions about that?"

"Like, I don't even know how to describe besides, 'it's just so f*cked up'," Kim replied frankly in the sneak peek for the interview, which airs in full on Monday.

The mum-of-three is clearly very protective of her younger sister. She said that she admires the 33-year-old's resilience in this 'sad situation'.

"We really were rooting for Khloé, and we still are," the 37-year-old explained, "She's so strong, she's doing the best that she can, it's a really sad situation all over."

Kim is also quite aware that her niece True will one day know of everything her relatives have said about her father. With this in mind, the reality star says she tries to exercise discretion in what opinions she expresses.

Having to deal with Blac Chyna and her brother Rob Kardashian's dramatic relationship helped Kim come to this conclusion. The couple share a daughter, Dream, and certainly have had a rocky romantic journey.

"I kind of made this rule with my brother: if there's a baby involved, I'm gonna keep it cute and keep it classy, and not talk too bad, I'm gonna try not to say anything so negative, because one day, True is gonna see this," Kim said.

She still added, "It's just so messed up."

Neither Khloé or Tristan have addressed the rumours.

So, if you've ever been cheated on you'll know all to well the toll it can take on your general wellbeing.

Sad, lonely, hurt and confused, you'll ask yourself if it was something you did?

Of course the answers is no, and according to a new study, even asking yourself this question could be effecting you physically as well as mentally.

Researchers from the University of Nevada, Reno, surveyed 232 third-level students who had been cheated in the last three months, with the aim of finding out how their behaviours and mental health had been affected by their partners infidelity.

Speaking to PsyPost, M. Rosie Shrout, lead author of the study, explained, “We wanted to know if this emotional and psychological distress leads them to engage in risky health behaviours, such as unprotected sex, drug use, alcohol use, binge eating, or not eating at all.”

She added, “We were also interested in whether perceptions of blame played a role in their psychological distress and risky health behaviours.”

Results found that having an unfaithful partner can significantly affect your behaviour, your view of cheating and above all, your ability to trust.

Researchers also found that those who are worse effected are more likely to turn to alcohol and drugs, or develop eating disorders.

“Being cheated on seems to not only have mental health consequences, but also increases risky behaviours,” Shrout said.

“We also found that people who blamed themselves for their partner cheating, such as feeling like it was their fault or they could have stopped it, were more likely to engage in risky behaviours.”

It seems that damaged self-esteem may lower ones inhibitions toward risky behaviours, which may ultimately lead to poor physical and mental health.

However, it's important to note that the average age of participants was 20-years-old, meaning the results may be different for older age groups.

When it comes to relationships, playing away is undoubtedly one of the most devastating things your partner can do.

Anyone who's ever been cheated on will know how utterly shit it can make you feel.

Sad, lonely, hurt and confused, you'll ask yourself if it was something you did?

Of course the answers is no, but it's hard think logically when you've been betrayed by the one person you thought would never hurt you.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and even though it may not feel like it at the time, it'll could make you a better person in the end.

Research suggests that women could actually enjoy huge benefits after being betrayed by an unfaithful partner.

A survey of 5,705 people from 96 countries found the women tend to thrive post-cheating, mainly because they are no longer being held back by an unfaithful partner, and will invest in better relationships in the future.

According to study author, Dr Craig Morris, a woman who's been cheated on will ultimately 'win' in the long run.

“The woman who ‘loses’ her mate to another woman will go through a period of post-relationship grief and betrayal, but come out of the experience with higher mating intelligence that allows her to better detect cues in future mates that may indicate low mate value.

“Hence, in the long-term, she ‘wins.’”

The research showed that six months to a year later women display higher levels of emotional intelligence, as well as improved self-confidence.

What's more, our f*ck boy radar gets kicked up a notch, meaning we're more likely to end up with someone who'll treat us the way we deserve to be treated.

So basically, while infidelity can be absolutely devastating, it could end up being the best thing that ever happened to you.

Silver linings and all that.

If you struggle with the idea of maintaining a monogamous relationship, recent research suggests that your family history may have something to do with it.

According to a study in the Journal of Family Issues, researchers have established a correlation between an individual's propensity to cheat with their parent's history on that front.

The research focussed on parental infidelity, parental marital status, parental conflict, and parental marital satisfaction and theorised that these factors were associated with the likelihood of offspring engaging in infidelity.

The study, which harnessed the lived experience of 294 people, established that if a person's parent cheated on their partner, they were twice as likely to do the same, with 44 per cent of participants who cheated revealing that their parents had also been unfaithful.

"When considered together, parent infidelity and parent satisfaction were uniquely related to offspring infidelity," the study reads.

"Additionally, parental marital status moderated the relationship between parent infidelity and offspring infidelity, as individuals who experienced neither event were particularly unlikely to have ever engaged in infidelity."

"Our research indicates that parental infidelity sends memorable messages to children about the greater acceptability of infidelity and these communications are internalised." Dana Weiser of Texas University explains.

She added: "We find that parent infidelity is associated with an individual’s own infidelity."

Amid allegations that final year students at University College Cork had breached exam procedure, the university has chosen to withhold specific results pending an investigation.

According to The Irish Times, students from the business information systems course are alleged to have outsourced computer-coding aspects of their final-year project.

It is understood that the investigation was launched after a student alleged that up to 14 peers were involved in presenting work that wasn't their own.

While a large number have been cleared of plagarism, a number of investigations into the claim are currently ongoing, with the university confirming they are involved in "an ongoing process with a small number of students regarding possible breach of its examination procedures”.

As the investigation is ongoing, the university will not be commenting further, but it is understood that if a student is found to have breached procedure, they will face a mark of zero or be excluded from the university.

In a rare glimpse into the personal lives of one of the world's most famous power couples, Jay-Z has admitted his marriage to Beyoncé 'wasn't built on 100 per cent truth'.

During a sit-down conversation with Chris Rock, Will Smith, Kendrick Lamar and Jesse Williams that was streamed on Tidal, Jay opened up about about relationships in the public eye.

He said: "This is my real life. I just ran into this place and we built this big, beautiful mansion of a relationship that wasn’t totally built on the 100 percent truth and it starts cracking."

"Things start happening that the public can see. Then we had to get to a point of 'OK, tear this down and let’s start from the beginning.' It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done."

The rapper went on to explain how he wanted to make things work.

"We’ve been in that space where we just got to the place that in order for this to work, it can’t be fake – not once. I’m not saying it wasn’t uncomfortable because obviously it was, but because we’ve been doing it for so long it was less uncomfortable."

The admission comes after the release of his latest album 4:44, in which he appears to confirm allegations that he had been unfaithful in his marriage.

In the title track, Jay seems to apologise for this actions, saying it took the couple's daughter, Blue Ivy, to make him him realise the severity of his actions.

He raps: "I apologise, often womanise, took my child to be born, see through a woman’s eyes. Took for these natural twins to believe in miracles. Took me too long for this song. I don’t deserve you."

Since the album's release, Jay-Z has not been in the good books with the Beyhive – and we can't imagine his latest admission is going to help him in that department.

But regardless of what we think, the couple seem to have moved on from the drama and are instead working together to raise their family.
