One thing we never thought we would see Simon Cowell donning is the good old-fashioned party hat!

However, we underestimated his love for Cheryl Cole, and he wore one for her birthday celebrations that were held on a private plane, of course.

Cheryl uploaded the hilarious selfie to her Instagram account with the caption: “Birthday selfies on the way to Ediburgh. yes. That is Simon in a blue party hat #blame @officialmelb.”

Meanwhile, Simon tweeted a very cheeky message wishing the star a happy birthday: “Now what shall I get Cheryl for her birthday tomorrow? 40 is an important year.”

Ooh, Simon, we’re sure she was VERY impressed with that!

Cheryl Cole turns 31 today, though she sensibly decided to celebrate a day early – and it looks like her French boyfriend really upped the romance level for the occasion!

The singer shared a snap of herself looking fab (nothing new there so!) and she was surrounded by beautiful bunches of red roses while sipping what looks like red wine.

Working with a grumpy Simon Cowell must be hungry work!

So X Factor judge Cheryl took boss Simon to her favourite Chinese restaurant in Newcastle for a slap-up take-away on Thursday night, and by the size of those bags, the pair ordered everything on the menu!

Cheryl grew up in the local estate in Byker just around the corner from Kwok Pao restaurant, and got younger brother Garry Tweedy to call them up and put an order in.

But owner of the business Kevin Shek didn’t realise who the order was actually for and was shocked when a Mercedes pulled up outside his restaurant!

Kevin said the pair spent £82.50 in the restaurant. They ordered prawn meat on toast, chicken egg foo young and mixed vegetables in satay sauce, and Cheryl’s favourite dish – salt and chilli ribs.

Mmmmm…. now we’re definitely in the mood for a Chinese take-away tonight!

Cheryl Cole has moved her French boyfriend Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini into her luxury home!

The X Factor judge has only been ­dating the restaurant owner since April, but is totally smitten and eager to go full steam ahead with the relationship.

Jean-Bernard is said to be besotted with the pop star and is happy to move over to the UK from France, and into Cheryl’s house.

Cheryl’s last relationship was with backing dancer Tre Hollyway, who she split with last October due to the strain of long-distance travelling – and she’s determined not to let this happen with Jean-Bernard.

The star has made no secret she wants to settle down and have a family, and it seems her new beau could be the ONE!

If Cheryl Cole ever needs a body double, she only needs to give Lisa Snowdon a call by the look of things!

The radio/TV presenter and model shared a snap doing her best Cheryl impression as she showed off an uncannily similar tattoo on her lower back and bum.

“This is me giving it my best @CherylCole! What do you reckon Cheryl? I’ve had some serious ink done!” the 42-year-old wrote alongside the shot.

The picture comes after Cheryl, 30, revealed just how much the art work cost.

“After I had malaria I created a ‘f**kit list’ because life’s too short,” Cheryl told Graham Norton last night. “The tattoo was on the list. It was in the £1000s, probably the cost of a small car.”

We wonder if Lisa’s cost that much, or if in fact, it’s as real as Cheryl’s!

It might be almost a year since Cheryl’s tattooed backside was revealed to the world, but its only now, that Cheryl has decided to finally explain the reasoning behind her getting that giant floral tat.

Cheryl explained to chat show host Graham Norton, that after falling seriously ill with malaria she created her own version of a bucket list, in which getting the unusual floral tattoo was at the top of it

“After I had malaria I created a ‘f*** it list’ because life’s too short and the tattoo was on the list.”

But what shocked us most was how much the tattoo actually cost, as the X Factor judge revealed that it cost the same amount as a “small car”.

“He’s an exceptional artist and he was worth it… It was in the £1000s, probably the cost of a small car.”

While we’re all for living in the moment, we’re not sure we would want to spend that much on a tattoo!

Cheryl Cole has admitted that she was close to a breakdown during a candid interview in Elle magazine.

The August issue looks set to be Cheryl’s most in-depth interview ever, as the star talks about “betrayals by both friends and lovers” as well as being fired from The X Factor US.

Apparently, the interview will also feature the exact text that she sent to Simon Cowell when she found out she was let go by the show.

Eek – now that we want to see!

The issue is set to go on sale July 3rd.

Cher Lloyd is set to release her next single the same day as her former X Factor mentor, Cheryl Cole is releasing hers. Awkward much?

Not only are the two to go head to head on the charts, but Cher has revealed that she would love to be close to The X Factor judge again: “I didn’t know it was out on the same day! She was my X Factor mentor! I cannot think of a better person to ask for advice now we are back. We are not in touch but I would like to speak to her. We had an amazing experience together, I hope she feels the same.”

That wasn’t all Cher had to say about her X Factor days however, as she also appeared on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man and had some not-so-nice things to say about herself: “It’s funny now I can look back at it being the person I am now, but I’m so embarrassed … The things I would do you wouldn’t believe. I would bite their heads off over something ridiculous because I was wrapped up in this ‘everyone is against me, the press hates me, everyone hates me’ … I’m not making excuses though, Al, I was a bi***.”

Don’t worry, Cher, we all did  embarrassing things as teens!

Hmm, we wonder who will win the battle of the charts?!

When Simon Cowell tweeted that Nicole Scherzinger would not be joining him for the new season of the X Factor, it seemed as if the singer had decided to quit the show to focus on her music career.

But now the lady herself has spoken out… and it seems as if she was actually never invited back at all!

Nicole said, “I haven’t heard from Simon. He made his choice, so I’m just going to support everybody.”

Simon is said to have had no choice but to get rid of Nicole, as he didn’t think she and Cheryl Cole would get on!

The pop stars seemed to have gotten off on the wrong foot in 2010 when Nicole was performing on the show.

Nicole apparently sang Cheryl’s Promise This to her several times backstage, leading the former Girls Aloud singer to write, “I swear to God the woman sang the whole song, to my face. It was just so awkward, and every time I stood next to her she started singing it again.”

Nicole later responded saying, “What I read didn’t seem like it was written to make me look very well. But I never know what to believe. I’d like to give her the benefit of the doubt and hope that she would only have spoken highly of me because I’ve not spoken poorly of her.”

Maybe Simon has a point then!

It would seem that fellow judge, Cheryl Cole, is a new phenomenon for Mel B!

OK! have revealed that in an interview carried out by Star magazine back in 2008, the Spice Girl was asked about Cheryl and said: “Cheryl Cole … Who’s Cheryl Cole?”

When Mel was prompted as to who Cheryl was, she reminded everyone that she didn’t live in the UK: “I’m with you. I don’t live here in the UK so I don’t know all these people.”

That is pretty awkward, we wonder what Cheryl will think of this!

We’re not so sure we can see these two ladies getting on too well on the judging panel … can you?
