Christmas

by

The twinkly lights have gone up in the city, tinsel is starting to appear on every shop window, coffee shops are selling festive beverages in those iconic red cups- Christmas is approaching, everyone and we couldn’t be more excited about it.

This time of year never fails to make us smile. There’s a buzz in the air (as well as a chill) and we just can’t get enough of it.

Once Halloween was over we were ready to whip out the Christmas jumpers and Michael Bublé’s Christmas CD- it’s simply infectious.

Listening to Christmas music just seems to make the day that little bit more bearable. Christmas lovers will be overjoyed to hear Christmas FM will soon be gracing the airwaves yet again and making our commute to work a hell of a lot more bearable.

The festive station will return on November 28 and will fill your ears with merry tunes up until Christmas Day.

The station has partnered up with the wonderful Temple Street Hospital as their charity partner this year.

They’re hoping to raise a whopping amount of money for the children’s hospital and we’re sure they’ll reach their target.

“We are delighted to announce that Temple Street Hospital is the official charity partner for Christmas FM for 2018. We aim to raise over €200,000 to give the gift of life to over 1,000 critically ill babies and children in Temple Street Hospital,” they stated.

This year the radio station are on the hunt for talented singer/songwriters to enter the very special Christmas FM Song Contest.

Simply write and record your very own Christmas song or cover version and fill out the online entry form at www.christmasfm.com and you could be hearing your song played across the airwaves this Christmas! You can find out all the information you need here.

One of Dublin’s best cinemas is hosting a Christmas season and I will be spending most of December there with a giant bucket of popcorn and a never-ending list of Christmas movies to watch.

The Lighthouse Cinema Dublin revealed their Naughty or Nice season today and they’ll be showing a heap of classic flicks over the holiday period.

Get ready to watch your most beloved Christmas movies on the big screen because they’re showing everything from Elf to Die Hard.

You can watch Hugh Grant shimmy around in Love Actually or shudder at Donald Trump’s cameo in Home Alone 2.

This year’s Naughty or Nice season is extra special because the Lighthouse Cinema has teamed up with Sing Along Social for The Muppet Christmas Carol Singalong

They’ll be hosting a screening of the classic family film followed by a festive sing-song and perhaps some dancing if you’re feeling uber jolly.

There’s so much to choose from and something for every age from December 1, every day until December 23.

Pretty Little Thing have worked with some of the coolest gals around, and now it's Hailey Baldwin's time to shine.

Resident 'It Girl' and fiancé of none other than Bieber himself, Hailey is one of the most sought after supermodels in town.

Who better to show off the gorgeous new Christmas campaign? We are SHOOKETH. The diamonds, the glitter, the sequins…we're already lusting over them.

CEO of the company, Umar Kamani, has revealed how delighted he is with having Hailey as the new face, and we don't blame him:

“We are so excited to be working with Hailey on our Christmas campaign. After such a successful year for the brand there wasn’t anyone else better suited to see our 2018 out with a bang. I have huge admiration for Hailey and her career as one of the most successful models in the industry."

"She has been such a pleasure to work with as the face of this collection and I can’t wait for you all to see this campaign when it launches early next week"

The campaign revolves around party season, featuring pieces dripping in diamantes for a dress code that's ultra glamorous. Get ready to unleash some heavy metal with crystal-embellished gowns and hardcore party dresses, we actually CANNOT WAIT.

If diamonds are forever ladies, these clothes will never be leaving your wardrobe. You'll be the first one spotted on the dancefloor with all of these glittery, shiny pieces that were made purely to stand out.

The collection features indulgent oversized blazer dresses, risky cut out minis and exploding sequin maxis, not to mention a dress for every Christmas party. Figure hugging jumpsuits, cycling shorts and crop tops also feature as part of the statement campaign.

The Biebs also made sure to leave a sneaky Instagram comment on Baldwin's post: 'Holy crap this is hot'. He's not wrong…

When this drops next Wednesday, you'll have to be prepared to grab it before it's gone. No doubt every gal in the universe will be drooling over the sequins, us included.

PrettyLittleThing starring Hailey Baldwin will launch exclusively on www.PrettyLittleThing.com on Tuesday 6th November.

Some of you 'Bah, Humbug' folk will be over the moon after hearing this statistic.

Christmas music is a divider for many people, some are blasting it the second the Halloween decorations come down, and others would sooner go deaf than hear a single note of Deck the Halls.

Clinical psychologists have now claimed that listening to too much Christmas music at an early age negatively impacts your health. This could 100% affect some of us little elves.

mean girls christmas GIF

According to psychologist Linda Blair, listening to Santa Claus is Coming to Town” on repeat could actually have a bad result on your brain. I mean, once it gets stuck in your head it's essentially impossible to get out.

"Music goes right to our emotions immediately and it bypasses rationality. Christmas music is likely to irritate people if it’s played too loudly and too early."

"It might make us feel that we’re trapped – it’s a reminder that we have to buy presents, cater for people, organise celebrations." Stressful, in other words. Like doing all of your Christmas shopping on December 24.

parks and recreation christmas GIF

She told Sky News: “People working in the shops at Christmas have to tune out Christmas music because if they don’t, it really does stop you from being able to focus on anything else."

“You’re simply spending all of your energy trying not to hear what you’re hearing.” Read it and weep, all you festive gals

Music psychology researcher, Dr Victoria Williamson backed this research up, explaining the ‘U-shaped relationship’ between the amount of times we hear music that we like and our ‘subsequent reaction to it’, writes Cosmopolitan.

macaulay culkin christmas GIF

She says the first few renditions of the Christmas playlist can put people in a great mood, but after a while it can wear you down.

All those carols and lyrics talking about Santa and mince pies seem more annoying when you're actually trying to concentrate, there's no denying that.

Marketing professor Eric Spangenberg has studied the effect of holiday music in retail settings, claiming to NBC that slow tempos slow shoppers down, meaning that they will stay in shops longer whereas fast-paced tunes can rush customers through stores much quicker.

Hmm, seems legit.

With only 54 days until Christmas, there's plenty of negative health effects about to come our way from the onslaught of festive tunes.

Good luck out there, fam.

Here at SHEmazing, it's fair to say we take the term 'nails on point' very seriously.

So when we stumble upon a nail place that has that something special about it, we tend to rave and rant about how AMAZING the experience was – and we’ve found another.

We’ve uncovered a gem hiding in the heart of Dublin city and it’s the best-kept secret on the capital's cobbles – and it’s certainly one for the Christmas list.

CHIPPED Nail Bar in the Powerscourt TownHouse transforms your nails at an absolute steal, in a decked out studio, surrounded by the nicest staff.

From Shellac, gel and stunning nail art, they do it all – and we can't cope at how good it is.

And for all you busy huns, the salon is open 10 pm on Friday and Saturays, so you no longer have to try and fit an inconvenient appointment around your schedule – and you can actually relax during your appointment.

It doesn't surprise us that the beaut Laura Whitmore, superstar Demi Lovato, icon Samantha Mumba, blogger Dee Alfaro and model Alannah Beirne have all frequented the salon.

If that wasn't enough, you can also book a private party at the salon – so you can kick off your girls' night in style.

Sip that bubbly and treat your nails to a make-over as you catch up with all the gals.

The salon is also a fabulous location for a Hen Party, because who doesn't love getting their nails done? – You'll be the number one maid of honour.

As well as keeping your nails looking lit, the girls at Chipped also pay special attention to brows and lashes.

Russian eyelash extension experts and experienced brow artists are on hand to pamper you with relaxing treatments to make that eye area pop (best of all, their Russian lashes are 50% off this month).

You can recreate the feels of the Great Hall with the HP inspired candle range – although don't even attempt to get them floating as burning down the house isn't a good look.

Penneys and RTÉ have released this year’s limited edition Late Late Toy Show collection and it is too cute for words.

The Late Late Toy Show range will be on sale in Penneys stores nationwide from Monday, October 22, with Penneys donating a total of €75,000 to Temple Street Foundation, CMRF Crumlin and The National Children’s Hospital Tallaght.

Once the show is over make sure to write that all-important letter to Santa using the letter pack and then slip on the owl eye mask for a perfect festive dream-filled sleep.

“We are delighted to be the chosen charity partners for the Penneys Late Late Toy show collection,” the children’s hospital foundations at Crumlin, Tallaght and Temple Street said in a joint statement.

Funkos are preparing to release their brand new Harry Potter themed Christmas advent calendar and we have no doubt this will fly off the shelves.

They are already well-known for their adorable ‘Pop’ figurines, but this has taken magical to a whole new level.

Featuring characters such as Hermione, Harry, Ron, Hagrid, Dumbledore, Dobby and Hedwig as well as a collection of beasts, ghosts, house elves and famous wizards, every day brings a whole new pocket-sized collectable character.

We don’t think we can handle this level of excitement. Mini versions of all our Hogwarts faves = Winter perfection.

Imagine waking up to a new collectable and having a butterbeer by the fire; Christmas literally can’t come quick enough. (Ideally we'd get a ticket to the Yule Ball while we're at it but Santa might hook us up?)

Witches, wizards, and even Muggles can get their hands on the calendar as soon as Funkos releases it, make sure you’ve got your galleons counted so you don’t have to rush to Gringotts at the last minute.

The official date for this year’s Late Late Toy Show has been revealed and we may be more excited than the kids.

As cringe as it is, the Toy Show never fails to make us smile.

We never thought watching Ryan Tubridy prance around dressed as Woody from Toy Story would get us in the festive mood, but it did.

Watching the Toy Show has become one of the biggest Christmas traditions here in Ireland and we honestly wouldn’t have it any other way.

Presenter Ryan Tubridy announced the date for this year’s show on his RTÉ Radio 1 show and it’s just around the corner.

Fans don’t have too long to wait to see what Christmas jumper Tubs will be rocking this year because the 2018 Toy Show will air on November 30.

“I had to try on my particular outfit this week that will be featuring on the opening of the Toy Show on November the 30th and that means Christmas is in the heads of a lot of people already,” the Late Late Show host revealed.

The Toy Show never fails to disappoint us, even thought we feel extremely jealous of ALL the prizes the audience bring home.

We can’t help but wonder will a certain boyband make an appearance on this year’s show? Westlife did just confirm their reunion tour.

Get your matching PJs and tins of Celebrations at the ready. The Late Late Toy Show airs on November 30.

Okay – Okay, we know that it's September and talking about Christmas is forbidden.

BUT – we have stumbled upon the perfect Christmas aroma and we couldn't help but share the magic.

Stick on some Wham! and a Santa hat because as soon as you smell Jo Malone's 2018 festive fragrance, the Christmas craic will be brought back.

This season you'll need the divine White Moss & Snowdrop Cologne.

As soon as you spray it, you'll be reminiscing of open fires, Christmas dinner and the glamorous parties.

If it was socially acceptable to bath in it – we would. However, a candle version is also available, so we'll probably treat ourselves and our Christmas guests to the gorgeous scent.

Jo Malone has even gone one step further to create the most decadent wrapping – so pretty that you can even hang it on the tree.

Taking inspiration from those sparkling baubles, you'll be blown away with the glitter and glam of this year's Christmas Collection.

Indulge your loved ones this year, with some of our faves picks such as the Cologne Collection Pomegranate Noir and the Christmas Ornament.

Or if you have a healthy budget, you'll be the envy of pretty much everyone with their advent calendar or customised Christmas Cracker.

For those who fell in love with Jo Malone's Orange bitters – you're in luck.

The divine perfume is back and due to popular demand, they've also unleashed the winter fave in candle form.

If you're hosting Christmas drinks, the candle will be perfect festive mood setter and will hit all the right notes as your guests sip their Christmas cocktails.

All of these beautiful Christmas aromas will be available from Brown Thomas on October 23 and the advent calendar will launch on November 1.

So save the dates in your calendar as we suspect these will be a massive hit.

And, if anyone has me for Secret Santa – I'm not gonna bother hinting, I'm telling you now I want something from Jo Malone's Christmas range.

It's beginning to look a lot like….

The 2018 Team Hope Shoebox Appeal was officially launched this week.

Today FM’s Alison Curtis has joined forces with Team Hope this year to encourage families, friends, schools, community groups and businesses across Ireland to champion the annual Appeal and donate gift-filled shoeboxes to children from some of the poorest regions in the world by 9th November.

After smashing last year’s target and delivering more than 264,000 shoeboxes, Team Hope wants to exceed all expectations and deliver 280,000 shoeboxes this year. Every single shoebox donated is delivered directly into the hands of a child in need, so every shoebox counts.

Team Hope is asking people to champion the Appeal in their own schools, communities, businesses and among their family and friends.

"By encouraging as many people as possible to take part, even more children will experience the joy of receiving a Shoebox. For most of these children, it is the only present they will receive all year, turning an ordinary day into a day filled with smiles, excitement and laughter," said Peter Heaney, Chief Executive Officer of Team Hope.

How do I get involved?

Getting involved is simple. All you have to do is find an empty shoebox, wrap it in Christmas paper and fill it with gifts for a boy or girl aged between 2 and 14 years old, attach €4 and bring it to a local drop off point before Friday, November 9th.

When considering items that are best to gift, think of the 4W’s:

·      Write – pen, pencil, copybook, paper, colouring book, felt pens, sharpener, eraser, solar calculator (these children have no access to batteries).

·      Wash – toothbrush and toothpaste, soap (wrapped), facecloth, hairbrush, comb.

·      Wear – a hat, scarf, gloves, socks or underwear.

·      Wow – sunglasses, games, small Irish gift, a photo of yourself, sweets (must be in date until at least April 2019), make up, a small musical instrument, toys like a doll, a car, cuddly toy, skipping rope, yo-yo or finger puppet.

There are 400 drop off points nationwide, including all Axa, FastFit/FirstStop branches and Toymaster stores.
