Around 2,500 people queued for Christmas food parcels at the Capuchin Centre in Dublin in freezing temperatures this morning.

The queue, which began before 8am, stretched down the street and around the corner and included elderly people and children.

The shocking number of people on the breadline was no surprise to Brother Kevin Crowley, who runs the centre.

“Last year we gave out about 2,500 parcels but this year I think it will probably go over 3,000,” he told the Irish Times.

“It is shocking, but I am not surprised. What is really appalling to see is the number of children coming here, mothers with children."

Each person in the queue will receive two blue plastic bags, one of perishable foods like bread and milk, and one of imperishable items like tinned beans, tea and sugar.

Yesterday President Michael D Higgins visited the Capuchin Day Centre to commend the volunteers packing the parcels for their hard work.

Unless your family is the type to hightail it off to sunnier climes a few days before December 25, chances are you'll be having the same Christmas as your neighbours… and their neighbours… and their neighbours.

The same dinner will be eaten, the same conversations will play out, and the same arguments will be revisited year in and year out, and while we wouldn't have it any other way, we often find ourselves wondering if this really is the case with all families.

Thankfully for us, comedy act Foil Arms and Hog have assured the public that this is, indeed, the sitch nationwide, and it's time to accept it… and embrace it.

So pull up a seat, ladies, and watch 'your family' in all their glory.

When the presents are opened and the dinner is demolished, there's nothing better than sitting down with the fam and having a good crack at a board game.

Whether it's Scrabble or Cluedo, or everyone's favourite, Monopoly, we all think that it's going to be a great laugh… until you're actually in the middle of it.

Little Scrabble letters get thrown, insults are shouted, and it generally ends up with the board game turned upside down and your mam having her third glass of wine.

But things are a little different this year ladies, because Hasbro UK and Ireland Craig Wilkins have set up a hotline to help you settle your gaming woes.

From the 24 to 26 December, the hotlines will be open for business, the the managing director of the companies hoping it will diffuse any family arguments.

He said: “We’ll have experts on hand with the official rulebooks to instantly settle any disputes, and advice on how to resolve common complaints, with each person also having the opportunity to make a donation to Childline when they call."

Hands up who will probably have a family argument either way?!

Kendall and Kylie Jenner are two of the word's most famous faces, after we watched them grow up in front of the cameras on Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Now a mega-model and makeup mogul respectively, the sisters shared a sweet snap of a Christmas long ago.

Taking to her Instagram, 19-year-old Kylie uploaded this adorable Polaroid picture of the sisters on Santa's knee, in 2000.

Sixteen years later, the snap has garnered almost 300,000 likes and comments, as fans gush over the Kardashian-Jenners' cuteness.

However, some fans are slagging Kylie's changed appearance.

One particular dig at the star pokes fun at her inflated lips, photoshopping her new lips onto her young face.

The social media mega-star is probably used to getting slack for her fondness for fillers at this stage, so we doubt this new dig will phase the teen.

Theft is always a fear when you are doing your Christmas shopping, with the average family spending €600 on gifts alone last Christmas according to the Irish League of Credit Unionslosing those gifts to a thief isn't something most families can afford.

An Garda Síochána is urging Christmas shoppers to be vigilant of theft, especially in retail car parks this month.

"Customers should be careful while shopping. Always park in well-lit and secure areas. When you leave your car, lock all doors and windows and double check to make sure. Don’t leave property or cash on view, take it with you," said Garda Sergeant Kelvin Courtney.

One family discovered this the hard way, after €700 worth of Christmas shopping was stolen from the carpark of Dundrum Town Shopping Centre.

The goods were allegedly taken from the boot of the car by unknown thieves while the victim had a bite to eat in the shopping complex, according to a Facebook post by the victims sister.

"Last night my little brother went shopping in Dundrum Town Centre, he had spent €700 on Christmas presents and when he was finished he dropped them out to the car went for something to eat and some little smelly runt robbed all his stuff even down to his over night bag with his pjs in it," according to the post.

Dundrum Town Centre is working with both Tallagh and Dundrum Garda stations in the hopes of catching the culprit.

"It's very unfortunate. There will always be people who prey on people at this time of year when they are distracted," said a Dundrum Town Centre spokesperson.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the Gardaí.

However, Gardaí warn that carparks aren't the only place that shoppers need to be vigilant.

"There are also over 100 thefts from customers in shops every month. Handbags are being targeted when left in trolleys or hanging on buggies."

"The handbag itself isn’t always the item that is taken, sometimes objects within the handbag are targeted too and often they are not immediately noticed missing by the owner. Mobile phones are the most commonly stolen object,” say Gardaí.

Incidents are most common on Tuesdays and Fridays between 12 noon and 6pm, and the commonly stolen items are electronics, handbags and gifts.

With only one week left to get the Christmas shopping done, thieves could get desperate, so be sure to stay vigilant.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have enjoyed a three month whirlwind romance, and were spotted together today for the first time since embarking on their new relationship.

The pair were also allegedly seen picking out a Christmas tree together, leading to speculation as to whether or not the Suits star will be joining the royal family over the holidays.

“I very much doubt she will be there,” a close insider told People

However, the source seems to think that Queen Elizabeth could change her mind yet, with a prompt from the red-haired prince.

“But if Harry asks for something, she would say yes as she adores him.”

The insider also pointed out that meeting the entire family for such a big occasion would be highly stressful for the American actress.

“It would be a tall order for her, and possibly put her off for good!” they said.

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward agreed, telling People it would be "extremely difficult for her.”
