Christmas

From fairy doors to Aaron's outstanding vocals and an opening number that saw Ryan Tubridy don an oddly bottom-heavy bear suit, we can all agree that this year's toy show was an absolute cracker.

One of the best parts of the Toy Show is watching at home while simultaneously following the action on Twitter.

Here's a few of the best tweets that made us lol.

If there wasn't Irish dancing on the Toy Show, was there even a Toy Show?

 Real talk.

A question that crosses all of our minds at some point in the evening.

 Technical difficulties abound.

The wonderful Beibhinn and her diabetes doll.

People still aren't accustomed to change.

We're sure we have one lying around somewhere….

The fact that one of our national treasures is a morally questionable turkey says it all.

We'll definitely be needing one after the work Christmas party.

When there's a lull in action on the Toy Show and we start day dreaming…

Buying presents for the lad in our life isn’t exactly a walk in the park.

If we’re not marching into town obediently to buy them something they’ve explicitly asked for (and where’s the fun in that?) we’re standing over the likes of Call Of Duty in a state of confusion.

So to help you actually enjoy Christmas shopping for the prince of your heart, the apple of your eye, here are seven pretty awesome ideas:

1. A glamping trip

This is a great one, because you, ahm, get the benefit of it too. For a present that’s a bit out of the norm, book a cosy, romantic night’s stay for two in one of Ireland’s many glampsites (that’s a glam campsite to you and me).

2. A new skill

Look at you trying to change your man! We joke, we joke. If your fella has always wanted to learn a new skill, be it a language, something technical, or even a new sport, make it happen by buying him an evening course as a Christmas present.

3. Something… nostalgic

Is your boyfriend a big LEGO fan? Was there a computer game he loved as a child? Or did he always want a model of the Millennium Falcon for Christmas, but never got it? Do a bit of digging and you could surprise him with a much loved item he won’t be expecting.

4. A new ‘do

If your guy has been considering trying out a new hairstyle, why not gift him with a voucher for a hip salon? And if the voucher feels too impersonal, you can add in some cool hair products for him to open on Christmas morning. We love the supercool, retro packaging of the Pomp & Co. range – and it’s Irish.

5. A personalised print

If your boyf is the arty, sentimental type, he would love a quirky drawing of the two of you as a pressie. Check out Etsy or Not On The Highstreet – there are heaps of illustrators on there that you can commission to make your own unique print.

6. The gift of fitness

Is your fella mad into fitness? There are heaps of different ideas you can play around with here, like some personal training sessions or a specialised bootcamp, or if you’re feeling more flush, a gym membership for the year.

7. Something leather

Gifting quality leather goods is a no-brainer for a fashion-conscious chap. They useful, stylish and they last forever. Our top picks? A leather hold-all, a nerd-chic leather satchel briefcase, or if the funds are low, a washbag.

Despite trying to behave in the safety of November, everyone knows over the next few days any hope we once had of avoiding indulgence will swiftly evaporate into Winter's sky.

So, what better way to acknowledge the festive season than to combine two of its most celebrated assets in one soul-soothing beverage?

Cue: Boozy Hot Chocolate!  To mark the Christmas season, a number of Dublin’s top bars have added a spruced-up version of everyone’s favourite sweet drink to their cocktail menus.

Zozimus on Anne’s Lane has merged “a generous amount of golden rum” with “warm luxurious chocolate milk”, vanilla ice cream and crushed biscuit to create their festive offering.

Buckfast is the drink that slays us all. One or two glasses (maybe three), and you're the life of the party; but if you go beyond that, boy, are you going to have a raging hangover in the morning.

Well, the drink company has created a new cocktail just for Christmas, and it has intrigued us greatly.

The Velvet Elvis is usually made with Jack Daniel's, raspberry liqueur and 7Up, but the Buckfast version is ten times easier to make.

All you have to do is pour 175ml of Prosecco into a champers glass, and top it off with 10ml of Buckfast.

We're totally going to be drinking this on New Year's Eve.

Sexy Halloween costumes are often considered offensive, degrading and downright ridiculous.

If you were happy to see that back of them last month, then look away now, as sexy Christmas costumes are officially a thing.

are you kidding me are you kidding please tell me youre kidding

9. 'Under the tree' costume

Seeing beautifully wrapped gifts under the tree has now been tainted for everyone. Thanks for that.

8. 'Sexy Christmas lamp' costume

You heard it here first; lamps are officially sexy. Objectification has never been such an accurate term.

7. 'Sexy snowman' costume

This one seems harmless enough, until you remember that a snowman is literally a pile of frozen matter. Frosty the Snowman fetishists, rejoice.

6. 'Unwrap me like a bow' costume

The first issue that arises with this one is that it looks uncomfortable AF. The second, is that the logistics of getting this one on just seem way too complicated.

5. 'Sexy reindeer' costume

Nothing screams 'Christmas' like a woman dressed as a woodland creature in a skirt with a half-inch inseam.

4. Rude-Olf undies

One for the boys, these novelty Rudolf briefs are the stuff of sexy nightmares.

3. 'Under the mistletoe' jumper

The instructions on this jumper elude to an act that would get you arrested if you actually performed it in public.

2. 'Sexy polar bear' costume

The sexualisation of polar bears is just one step too far for us. We'd probably rock the hat, though.

1. The Virgin Mary

You can't unsee this blasphemous costume, which is slowly making us lose faith in humanity.

Christmas day is fast approaching, so it's safe to say we're throwing ourselves into anything festive and fun (in other words, we're going to eat and drink our way into an early Christmas coma).

It's safe to say people have gone all-out this year, and between wine advent calendars, gin-filled decorations, gravy candy canes and boozy jam, these concoctions aren't going anywhere.

And the latest to hit our sights is Prosecco mince pies. Mmm hmm, very fancy.

Ode to Host is the creator of these glorious pies and got the idea from soaking the dried fruit in Prosecco.

The soaked fruit is then mixed in with oranges, lemons, limes, almonds, apples, spices, a dash of brandy and a sip of sherry, and violá! Absolute perfection.

Oh, and did we mention they are gluten- and wheat-free?! So, if you think you're getting dirty looks from your aunt for chugging back the Rosé, these mince pies will be your little secret weapon to get through the day.

You're welcome.

Christmas dinner is a funny one.

You're delighted to see the family members that you can't find time for throughout the year, but then there's always the 'add-ons' who poke and question and just generally annoy the sh*t out of you.

So, we were fairly delighted when we saw this #thanksgivingclapback on Twitter, because it basically describes what we all have to go through at the dinner table.

Sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy these:
