Christmas

From its statement trenches to patterned scarves, Burberry has long been synonymous with luxury.

But as the iconic brand’s newly released Christmas trailer suggests, Burberry is also a name which has survived the trials and tribulations of the 20th century.

Featuring our very own Domhnall Gleeson as brand founder Thomas Burberry and American Sniper star Sienna Miller as his wife, the label’s latest mini movie documents 160 years of fictionalised history.

In what is bound to be one of the year’s most stunning advertising campaigns, Brendan Gleeson’s son can be seen kissing the popular model, while The Wire’s Dominic West plays British explorer Ernest Shackleton and Cinderella lead Lily James channels a fictional pilot based on Betty Kirby-Green.

Mentioning the ‘C’ word this side of Halloween may be taboo, but we swear we’ve got a very good excuse.

As the shops quickly fill with dazzling sequins, velvety reds and luxurious golds, we’ve found the perfect lipstick line to compliment your party season style.

After a year filled with Kylie Jenner inspired metallic lips, L’Oréal has released the Gold Obsession Collection which features three moisturising shades designed to complement all skin tones with gold coated pigments.

Try the Rose Gold shade for daytime, use Nude Gold for added glam or go all out with Plum Gold for a more daring party look.

The range debuted at Paris Fashion Week last month and is now available in selected pharmacies nationwide, with each lipstick retailing for €11.99.

Even though Halloween is still ten days away, many shops and department stores have already put up their Christmas lights and trees.

Brown Thomas has always been one of those stores that go all out for the festive season, and they went ahead and decorated their windows today – a full two weeks earlier than last year.

The display is somewhat more traditional than previous years, and it was met by some joy, as well as some cynicism.

Here's what the people of Twitter had to say about it:

Well… What do you think of this early display?

Making its glorious debut just last year – the arrival on these shores of personalised jars of Nutella brought SHEmazing! out in a cold sweat of chocolatey, hazelnutty, sugary goodness.

And now it's the confirmation we've all been waiting: personalised Nutella is back and it's available RIGHT NOW.

Allowing you to brandish the otherwise humble jar, Brown Thomas Dublin is offering the service from today.

For those in other parts of the country, fear not: Brown Thomas Cork will be also doing the same honours from this Friday, with Limerick following suit from Tuesday, October 18.

Individual personalised jars will be priced at €5.50 or when presented in a gift box priced at €7.50. Need something really 'WOW' for that special someone? Then present the personalised jars in a boxed gift set complete with a Nutella mug (priced at €20) and a Nutella spatula and bread board (priced at €25).

Heres to tubs of Nutella all round this festive season! Yup, that's pretty much every Christmas present we can think of sorted.

Muggles around the world are celebrating today as Warner Bros has announced that magicless folk will be allowed dine in Hogwarts’ Great Hall this Christmas.

For the second year in a row, London’s Warner Bros Studio Tour is offering Potter fans the opportunity to enjoy a Christmas feast on the iconic Hogwarts set, but, as with last year, tickets are limited and bound to sell-out fast.

Guests will be greeted with drinks and canapés before gaining access to the Great Hall, which will be decked out with original props from the Harry Potter flicks.

They will then take their seats on the actual set and receive special wands to mark the occasion, before enjoying Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.

Once fed, visitors will be able to explore the full Studio Tour, which includes access to the Gryffindor common room, Platform 9 ¾ and Diagon Alley.

The event will run for two days only (Wednesday December 7 and Thursday December 8) and tickets cost £240 (around €275) per person.

Tickets go on sale this Thursday, October 6, at 10am.

While we’re the first to admit that our caramel infused coffee obsession has gone a little far, there’s no way we would have thought of making Starbucks scented makeup.

But now that such a thing is actually on the market, there’s no denying we are more than a little curious.

According to Teen Vogue, the innovative people at Too Faced cosmetics have officially launched their first range of Starbucks scented products.

As part of their Christmas collection the quirky makeup brand has released a set of three palettes which smell just like drinks from the famous coffee chain’s seasonal menu.

The Grand Hotel Café set contains 18 eyeshadows, two blushers and a bronzer which are divided across three sets of Peppermint Mocha, Gingerbread Coffee and Eggnog Latte aromas.

Since each piece of makeup is named after a coffee or Christmas reference – and as the whole lot comes in at €46 – this kit could make a pretty cool present for the coffee lover in your life.

It's only the first week of January, but Christmas already feels like an oh-so distant memory.

You're back to work, there are no more festive films on the telly, and you've put on half a stone in pure chocolate. Ideal.

There's no worse feeling than trying to slip into the leather skirt that looked downright HAWT pre-December 25, only to find it's now just a tad too snug.

This too shall pass, but until then, we have some simple style fixes that mean you can still look and feel your best – without sending your bank balance into oblivion.

1. Choose a cover-up
Yes, it would be handy if you were allowed to head to the office in the fleecy onesie you've been wearing all weekend, but sadly that's  not an option. Instead, choose a stylish cover-up that you can get cosy in while still looking totally work-appropriate.

Sleeveless Cape, €22 (was €45)

2. Skim those curves
The thought of getting dressed up might put the fear of God in you right now, but with the right dress you'll be raring to go in no time. This gorgeous coral option will not only liven-up dull post-Christmas skin, but it has a comfy and oh-so flattering fit.

Zip Feature Dress, €22 (was €45)

3. Choose a wrap style
Draw attention to your neck and décolletage with a top that easily hides any selection box-induced bloating. Plus, how gorgeous is that vibrant magenta shade?

Cross Front Top, €22 (was €45)

All of the above styles are available from Irish-owned site CozeDiRoze, and with a sale now on, you're bound to find a piece to suit your look that won't break that bank.

Like most people, we start daydreaming about our Christmas dinner around mid-November every year; we ponder the variety of potato, we fantasise about our mum’s secret recipe gravy and we imagine that first succulent bite.

Then today rolls around and we can’t bring ourselves to look at the bloody thing.

Every time we walk into the kitchen, we see it resting under some crinkled tinfoil and we know we’re going to have to start making some excuses pronto to avoid eating any more of that giant bird.

If you’re fresh out of excuses at this stage, then feel free to use some of ours. We won’t tell.

1. Dustin was the shining light of my childhood. I can’t possibly betray him again.
So, no thank you, I will decline your kind offer of turkey curry.

2. No, I’m sorry. It’s against my beliefs
I've seen the light since yesterday when I happily scarfed down two helpings.

3. Turkey is unfortunately my least favourite meat…
…today.

4. I’m sorry I can’t possibly eat turkey without cranberry sauce.
Oh, you have some? I’m sorry, I meant without marmalade.

5. I found that turkey a tiny bit dry the first time around.
And we're all out of Club Orange, so it would just be a total disaster.

6. Oooh more turkey! Do you mind if I eat it in the nip? It tastes better that way.
No? OK, I’ll sit this meal out so.

7. Eating turkey after the 26th is against everything I stand for.
Yes, my moral compass revolves solely around farmyard animals. Deal with it.

8. I’ll only have some if I can put my head in the carcass afterwards like a zombified Monica from Friends.
No? Grand, so. Your loss.

9. I will projectile vom if I have to look at one more piece of turkey.
But thank you, I’ll just help myself to this block of brie, tin of Roses and tub of Celebrations.

Is there anything lovelier – or more bizarre – than a traditional Irish Christmas?

Okay, it's not everyone's cup of tea, but even the Grinches of the world can't say no to a tin of Roses and a hot whiskey.

No matter what's gone down over the previous twelve months, there are some traditions that always stay the same come Christmas time. Here are a few of the things that are no doubt going to happen in your house…

1. Someone will get a roasting for eating from the wrong selection box
"I was SAVING that Curly Wurly for tomorrow you heathen."

2. And there'll be a fight over when it's okay to eat the "good" biscuits
Look at them there, in their shiny tin, calling to you.

3. You say you'll have "just the one" down the pub on Christmas Eve
Just the one… entire bottle… of Baileys.

4. But despite the hangover, you'll still wake up early on Christmas morning
Because presents.

5. One relative will insist on hogging the TV for Coronation St on Dec 25th
"Can we not put on a box set and call it a day, Auntie Mags?"

6. Your mam/dad will SWEAR this is the year they get the roast potatoes right
"Anne in work said she uses coconut oil for them, so I bought a kilo."

7. You'll have to feign excitement for at least one awful gift
"Oh, a selection of lavender soaps, my fave."

8. There'll be a heated discussion about whether Coffee Escape belongs in the tin of Roses
A contentious issue indeed.

9. One relative will get a little too liberal with the sherry
And they'll start talking about your mam's "wild" days in the Sixties.

The Christmas season definitely gives us an excuse to go over the top with our party outfits. Because if you can't do it at Christmas then when can you do it?

We love a bit of festive sparkle but there is definitely a fine line between festive fierce and festive fail.

So let the celebs show you how to sparkle in the style stakes.

1) The showstopper

If you go for a show stopping sequin piece like KStew, it goes without saying that you can keep the accessories muted. Pair with a simple pair of platforms or court shoes in fabrics that are not too shiny.

2) The perfect sequin dress

It's out there! So hunt it down. Not all sequin dresses are skin tight and gold, there's a huge variety of patterns and colours to enjoy.

3) Dress it down

Make like Millie and pair a slinky sequin number with boots for an essence of casual cool.

4) Be on the nose

Who said you can't to wear red, gold or green sequins at Christmas. Do it right and we promise you won't look like a festive ornament.

5) Think outside the box

Don't shy away from a eclectic sequined style, because the quirkier the better we say!
