Caffeine fiends… there has been some terrible news.

As a result of our relentless love of caffeinated beverages, it seems that there might be a shortage in the future. The global demand for our favourite hot drink seems to be putting a strain on supply.

According to Bloomberg, the 2015-16 season of coffee production is expected to be in deficit of 3.5 million bags. Last year there was a global shortage of 6.4 million bags.

The 2014 drought in Brazil resulted in damaged crops and less coffee to be exported.

There’s also been an increase in coffee consumption that requires an extra 40 million to 50 million bags of coffee to be made. So maybe our little habit is getting more serious than we thought.

Of course, there's also climate change to take into account.

Rising temperatures are putting the Arabica coffee bean at risk, sorry Starbucks lovers! The bean is favourited by the chain but is the bean that is most in danger of facing poor growth.

Your pumpkin spice latte habit might be cut short, and then what would happen?

A world without coffee would surely mean productivity levels worldwide would go into a downward spiral.

Although perhaps not, as farmers as said to already be making changes to adopt to the rising temperatures.

However the Global Coffee Forum is currently taking place in Milan. So, let’s all hope that they can sort this out because winter is coming and we need the help of our favourite warm drinks to get us through it.

Nowadays, the minute autumn hits, everyone becomes obsessed with pumpkin spice. There’s no escape from it!

Last year, roughly one in three people picked up something pumpkin-y, with the assumption that the number will grow this year.

Everyone has put their spin in the Halloween treat, from scones to soda – but here are five facts about our pumpkin spice obsession that you should know:

It’s a $361 (€322) MILLION business

Yep, that figure is correct. It’s no wonder companies are coming out with everything pumpkin-spice to capture a bit of the buzz. They want to bank in on the cash too.

Pumpkin gets more attention than apples

No other fruit or vegetable is as popular this time of year. Apples haven't had the same marketing blitz behind it that say, the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte has, with countdowns to its release, an official Twitter account and a 10-year anniversary campaign in 2013.

The world loves to add caramel to their spice

According to Pinterest, this year, pumpkin isn’t the only thing we’re obsessing over. Nope, the people of the world have stepped it up a notch and like to mix it up with some salted caramel. Indulge? Us? Never…

The calories are shocking

There are 410 calories in a pumpkin-spiced latte. Wow, we know. Now that includes whole milk and cream. But if you want to enjoy a bit of spice on the lighter side, stick to non-fat milk and no cream as it brings the calories down to 260. Still though, you can’t have a spiced latter with no cream.

RUN to Starbucks on Halloween

According to My Fitness Pal, Halloween day is the most popular day of the year to consume the autumn treat. There was a 7.3 percent rise in people drinking the spiced coffee on that day than any other. So if you want to grab a bit of spice, run to Starbucks! You don’t want to miss out.

Coffee is warm and delicious and even though not everyone loves it, it is something that has been proven to be good for you again and again.

Many researchers have agreed that as long as you can drink it in moderation then coffee is good for you. In case you were wondering ‘moderation’ means three to five 235 ml cups a day.

So the next time someone tells you that your habit it getting out of hand you can point out these health benefits and then walk away. You don’t need those kind of coffee-hating people in your life.

Antioxidants

One study found that coffee delivers more antioxidants that most other foods and beverages in the average diet. Yes, that means even more than green tea.

It can make you happy

Specifically, coffee can make women happy. The Harvard School of Public Health found that women who drank four or more cups of coffee a day were 20 per cent less likely to be at risk of depression. That doesn’t mean coffee can be used to self-medicate if you are feeling depressed though, make sure you talk to a professional to get the correct care and support.

It can improve your memory

It may not make you more intelligent, but Lifehacker found that when your work is memory based it can make you more productive.

It contains essential nutrients

Coffee is not just black water, many of the nutrients in coffee beans make it to your mug. Such as: Riboflavin (Vitamin B2): 11% of the RDA, pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5): 6% of the RDA, manganese and potassium: 3% of the RDA.

Great news, we're just going to take a quick break now…

Keep in mind that this will only be a temporary issue so there's no need to start considering a relocating just yet.

However, if you live or work near Leeson Street, then according to Lovin' Dublin, your morning coffee routine is about to face some disruption. The branch of Peacock Green has closed.

Morning guys, hope you had a fab weekend. Unfortunately our Leeson street store is closed for renovations but not to…

Posted by Peacockgreen on Monday, 21 September 2015

It is most certainly not going to be forever though so you don't need to shed too many tears into your coffee cups. A sign on the gate is there to inform us all that the plan on closing the branch for "approximately one month."

They have also very helpfully informed all of the coffee-lovers that there is another branch just a short walk away. While there are plenty of other decent coffee stops not too far away, we think there could be a hangry issue to deal with. Peacock Green do quite the breakfast spread so there is that to take into account.

However, there is also branches on Lord Edward Street, and Elm Park on the Merrion Road, which opened recently.

Stay strong coffee fiends, a month is not that long. We hope.

You can't control waking up on the wrong side of the bed – but you CAN control what you do after you get out of it.

There are so many factors that can make your mornings less-than-ideal, like hitting a traffic jam or forgetting your umbrella when there's a downpour (I bet we all know that horrible feeling), but other little morning habits could make you start your day on the wrong foot.

Set yourself up for the best day possible by avoiding these morning behaviours:

Drinking coffee too early

Is there really ever a bad time for coffee? Well, yes, it turns out there is. Your energy levels rise naturally when you first wake up in the morning, so drinking coffee then causes an extra energy surge that can leave you jittery.

Instead, you'll reap in more benefits if you drink coffee at least an hour after you've gotten out of bed. That's when your energy levels begin to plummet, so coffee will keep you in check for the afternoon.

Your breakfast is too small

Grabbing a handful of berries and Greek yoghurt before you leave the house in the morning might sound like the perfect healthy breakfast, but something that small will set you up to binge in the afternoon or evening.

Not only is it just not enough food, but it's lacking in nutrients that are key to feeling full. Adding some fibre and protein into your first meal of the day will set you up for whatever the day has in store.

Checking your e-mails first thing

This one is a nasty habit that most of us are probably guilty of. Checking your inbox or social media the moment you open your eyes in the morning can set you up for stress all day.

Instead of worrying about what the world is going to throw at you first thing, focus on starting the morning with something calming, like exercise, sipping on tea or talking to your friend. This will actually help your body's productivity level and get your creative juices flowing.

Are you one of those people that cannot function before 9 o'clock unless your coffee cup is glued to your hand? Yes? Well don't worry because you are not alone. Like many of the people on this earth, we at SHEmazing are pretty much coffee obsessed.

It is a love that runs deep and we take it quite seriously. It is a very rare occasion indeed if that delicious coffee smell is not wafting from our desks. Sometimes we wonder if our blood has actually become caffeinated. Probably not the healthiest quirk to posses, but it's a tough habit to quit.

If you are coffee lover, or know one (who doesn't?), then these little nuggets of information are going to be very valuable for you.

Soy milk is chemically predisposed to curdling in your coffee:

This is because of the temperature and acidity of coffee. You can avoid it however; you can take cold soy milk and freshly brewed espresso and steam the two together. Or, you can buy soy milk that is especially made to be used with coffee.

Don't microwave your coffee:

If your cup has been sitting out for a while, but you are in a desperate need of a fix you really are better off just making a fresh cup. For two reasons: the first being that if you take milk then that should not be sitting out of the fridge for over two hours. The second is that it's going to taste really bad. Just don't do it.

Dark roast is not the 'strongest':

The darker the roast, the less the caffeine. Darker roasts have a rounder, fuller taste as opposed to a stronger level of caffeine.

'Extra hot' coffee probably doesn't taste better:

It will also scorch the mouth off you and no one wants that before the work day begins, unless you're a masochist- but aside from that, over steaming the milk can ruin the flavour and texture of your coffee.

If you're in it for the Instagram likes, then you need to stick with full fat milk:

Most misshapen leaf and sad love heart latte art is because of almond milk, apparently. So if you want to take an arty #nofilter snap of your morning coffee to make others jealous of your trendy lifestyle, then go for normal milk.

A macchiato is possibly not what you think it is:

Normally this is an espresso with a little milk. The Starbucks version is entirely different….

You can keep your coffee at the perfect temperature with this gadget:

It's a USB heated travel mug, surely you know someone who needs this in their life.

Between 9:30 and 11:30 in the morning is the best time to drink your first cup of coffee:

If you can wait that long. This is because your cortisol levels (stress hormone) are high in the morning. You don't want caffeine when this is happening because cortisol already makes you feel alert.

It seems that often the things we love the most are the things we are warned to indulge in sparingly.

Coffee and chocolate lovers however can now rest a little easier with the knowledge that their favourite habits are probably not as bad for you as others would have you believe.

The people at AsaspSCIENCE are back with a video that is debunking some interesting foodie myths. As it turns out, your chocolate habit would need to turn into an extreme snacking situation before you ran the risk of accidental death.

But did you know that cherries are a completely different story?

Just one wrong bite can deliver a lethal dose of cyanide, which is to be found in the pit of the cherry. Something to be aware of next time you get a craving.

The video also reminded us something we probably all already knew at this point, but appreciate being confirmed: sleep is really really important. Currently a man holds the record for being able to go without sleep for just over 11 days. While no very serious long-term effects were documented, it is definitely not recommended.

So, we are free to drink our coffee and eat our chocolate in peace. However, being tall and eating cherries are suddenly not looking so appealing.

Is coffee good for more than just wearing off the inevitable mid-day slump?

A new study suggests that drinking a lot of coffee could actually reduce your risk of developing skin cancer.

In the decade-long study, researchers analysed nearly 450,000 people who drank coffee. The participants had to fill in questionnaires that came from The National Institute Of Health about their various eating and drinking habits.

By the end of the study, close to 3,000 people developed malignant melanoma, a serious type of skin cancer that occurs in the cells that produce pigmentation.

After adjusting the research to account for various risk factors including smoking, family history and sun exposure, researchers found the very interesting association that the people who drank four or more cups of coffee a day were 20 percent less likely to developed malignant melanoma.

Caffeinated coffee in particular lessened the risk even more.

So how is this possible? The authors of the study think coffee contains extremely beneficial compounds (including caffeine) that appear to fend off cancer in a number of ways:

  • They suppress cells that turn cancerous in the sun
  • They fend off oxidative stress and DNA damage
  • They absorb harmful sun rays (kind of like sun screen)
  • And they detoxify carcinogens

This is all BRILLIANT news for us coffee drinkers, especially all of us whose Nespresso bills are sky high.

If you're someone who absolutely loves (and needs) you daily cup, or three, of coffee, then you've probably been hit with a few facts about how it may not be that good for you or a few questions about whether you should cut back or not.

But finally, the day as come when we now have an answer for all those who have something to say about our over-the-top love for caffeine.

Scientists have discovered, that coffee may not actually be bad for you, despite many recent articles saying you should limit your intake to one cup or none at all.

A professor of paediatrics at the Indiana University School Of Medicine, Dr. Aaron E Carroll, has under-taken a study on whether drinking coffee really is bad for you.

After going through an insane amount of high-quality data, Dr Aaron has found absolutely NO evidence to suggest that coffee can have negative effects on our health, even for those of us who like to drink more than one cup a day.

Aaron notes that it's the stuff that we put in our coffee, like sugar, that we have to cut back on rather than the coffee itself.

If you're lucky enough to be a lover of both tea and coffee, you are better off drinking more tea. Here are five reasons why.

1. Tea will keep you going for longer
While both contain caffeine, the coffee high ends quicker meaning that for a day of work it will not last as long as the effects of tea.

2. Tea has more antioxidants
These will help you look and feel great, and tea is full of them.

3. Tea is better for your weight
Green tea can help you to lose weight and the only weight gaining option to add to your tea is sugar. Now let's have a look at that large, double caramel frappuccino with extra cream, shall we…

4. Tea can help to reduce stress
While the reason is unknown, we all know a good old cuppa lifts us slightly in our darkest hours.

5. Tea can be good for your teeth
Tea stains your teeth less than coffee. The tannins can also kill bacteria that cause cavities.

Most people love a cup of coffee, perhaps one or two a day, but there are those whose love of coffee stretches a bit further than that…

So, what is the motivation to cut down on coffee and why should you bother?

Here are some reasons you should consider cutting down to one cup of coffee a day:

1. Save money
If you love to pop by the coffee shop on your way to work or college, and you do this every day, at an average coffee price of €2.50 you are spending around €652.50 a YEAR – yikes! You know what else €652.50 is? A stunning designer handbag, that's what.

2. Better sleep
Caffeine is a stimulant, so if you have trouble sleeping, then ditching the black stuff could majorly improve your night's sleep, resulting in better focus.

3. It's addictive
At the end of the day, it's never good to NEED a crutch to get you through the day. No, it isn't the worst thing you could be relying on, that goes without saying but time and time again we hear people say: "don't talk to me before my coffee" or "I can't think without coffee" which isn't exactly ideal, is it?

4. Less headaches
Coffee is known to cause more headaches, because as people become dependent on it, caffeine withdrawal manifests itself in a throbbing headache. Not cool.

5. Whiter teeth
These days, many of us are worried about the appearance of our teeth, and go to great lengths to get and keep them as white as possible. Coffee is one of the worst culprits for staining your teeth and even turning them yellow – eek! So, if you want whiter teeth, put down that mug!
