With Summer in full swing, it appears the American TV presenter feels as much pressure to get beach-ready as the rest of us! But what bizarre diet has Ryan resorted to in order to get in shape?
In 1952, Marilyn Monroe gave Pageant magazine an exclusive interview and it seems the iconic actress was well ahead of her time in terms of diet and exercising.
Just like the rest of us, the blonde beauty worried “about eating too much” and not working out enough. Talking to the magazine, Marilyn confessed to spending “10 minutes each morning working out with small weights” and admitted to a high protein diet that she served with vegetables.
And it wasn’t just diet and exercise that Marilyn was on top of – she was sun smart too! Despite tanned skin being all the trend in California at the time, Marilyn wasn’t a sun worshipper, saying : “Despite its great vogue in California, I don’t think sun-tanned skin is any more attractive than white skin, or any healthier, for that matter. I’m personally opposed to a deep tan because I like to feel blond all over.”
However , she did have a few strange heath regimes like her warm milk and egg drink being one of them.
In the interview, the actress said: “Before I take my morning shower, I start warming a cup of milk on the hot plate I keep in my hotel room. When it’s hot, I break two raw eggs into the milk, whip them up with a fork, and drink them while I’m dressing. I supplement this with a multi-vitamin pill, and I doubt if any doctor could recommend a more nourishing breakfast for a working girl in a hurry.”
Over sixty years later, Marilyn is still as iconic as ever, so she was definitely doing something right.
We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but what we didn’t know was that it can help us burn calories.
According to new research, if you eat a good breakfast,, you will lose more calories than if you skip it.
The University of Bath divided a certain number of people aged between 21 and 60 into a ‘fasting’ group and a ‘breakfast’ group. It’s kind of obvious who did what in each group!
While the study found that having breakfast didn’t stop snacking during the day, those who did have it were more active, making them use more energy – about 442 calories worth.
Principal investigator in the study, Dr James Betts said: “The main finding from our study is that people who eat breakfast burn more calories. Most people would think this is because of reduced snacking and increased metabolic rate but actually this is due to moving around. They were more active during the period that they had eaten breakfast. People moved around if they had been fed and there are many benefits to being active.”
So, if we eat breakfast, we have more energy which we end up burning off anyway – amazing!

The Victoria’s Secret model knows exactly what to do to achieve this – and she’s shared it with us. Yay!
According to Miranda, the secret behind her figure and skin is a simple SALAD! “Every day I eat a big salad with finely chopped spinach and kale, fennel, and macadamia nut oil … fresh lemon squeezed on that with apple cider vinegar. Add feta cheese, olives, cucumber.”
Sounds delicious!
Miranda was speaking at an event for her company KORA Organics where she also praised the company’s rosehip oil with doing wonders for her skin: “I put it on every night. I really believe it makes a big difference to my skin. It’s full of antioxidants and essential fatty acids.”

Here are some of the most common diet tips that many of us live by, but actually don’t work.
Green tea
Some studies claim that sipping green tea can help you lose weight. But the truth is you would have to be drinking seven cups a day to match the number of compounds needed to actually burn fat.
All fats are the same
Not true, there is a significant difference between saturated and unsaturated fats. So cutting out some fatty foods in preference for other fats doesn’t guarantee weight loss.
Exercise estimates
This is unforuntaely also not accurate. The amount of calories you actually burn in an exercise session, can depend on your own metabolism.
Having a belly is fine
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a great indicator of whether someone could be considered overweight or obese but is not always fool proof. While a flat stomach is impossible, we shouldn’t ignore any weight gain around our waistline.
Your body shape affects your weight gain
Many experts claim that those who have pear shaped figure are less prone to gaining weight in comparison to those who are apple shaped. This isn’t necessarily true. It doesn’t matter what shape your figure is, any excess fat is unhealthy.
Constant research has shown that having a low or non carb diet, can not only make it harder to lose weight but also causes long term health problems.
Filling
Ensure your meals contain at least some portions that are high in fibre. Not only will this help with digesting foods, will keep you fuller for longer and prevent you from snacking on bad foods.
Long term benefits
Studies have proven again and again, that adults who eat a diet high in fibre decrease their chances of getting heart disease and even colon cancer. So, eating more plant based carbohydrates can have great long term affects too.
Good carbs vs. bad carbs
Bad carbohydrates are foods that have been refined by removing all the nutrients from the grain e.g. white rice, white bread. While good carbs are full of fibre. They have not been processed and can be slowly digested into our system e.g. brown rice, fruits, vegetables, beans.
But most importantly, it’s all about moderation and having some good carbs can go a long way to a healthier diet and lifestyle.
There are so many fad diets out there but none have proved as successful as simply eating a balanced diet with lots of fruit and veggies and getting 30 mins of exercise each day.
Here are the 5 worst fad diets we have ever heard of.
1. The Baby Food Diet
This diet was famed by celebs for a while and consists of eating only baby food. Er, yum? While baby food may be good for babies, it’s certainly not good for grown women!
2. The Cabbage Soup Diet
Restricting yourself to one meal a day and only cabbage soup is a sure-fire way to go absolutely insane.
3. Lemon Detox
Lemon water with maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Only. For ten days. Just no, it slows down metabolism and will not be good for you.
4. The Air Diet
Putting food close to your mouth and not actually eating it. Torturous and definitely not a healthy mindset.
5. Grapefruit Diet
Similar to the cabbage soup diet but with grapefruits. Sounds repetitive, boring and pretty gross.
Remember that nothing will ever beat a long-term healthy mindset of a balanced diet and exercise.
So, you’re trying your best to be good and healthy when your nearest and dearest decide to give their opinion on it.
Thanks, no thanks.
