She died suddenly aged 58 seven-and-a-half years ago – leaving her son Kanye devastated.
And now the doctor who operated on Donda West shortly before her death says he’s determined to clear his name once and for all.
In fact, California-based plastic surgeon Dr Jan Adams has stated that he believes Kanye’s cousin, Stephan Scoggins, is responsible for her untimely passing.
He’s even calling on Donda’s hip-hop superstar son to speak out publicly in his defence.
“It baffles me when nobody wants to know the truth,” Dr Adams said. “I think [Kanye] should stand up and tell the truth, and the truth will set you free.
“I think the truth needs to be out there. If he had any balls or if he was any kind of man he could (speak up).”
Academic Donda, who is a former head of Chicago State University’s English department, had liposuction, a tummy-tuck and breast-reduction surgery in early November 2007. She died a day later.
“Most people that I run into think she died on the table, they don’t even know this lady was home for a day,” Dr Adams also said in the same interview with the New York Daily News. “The truth hasn't been revealed.”
Mr Scoggins is a registered nurse with a PhD in public health. He took charge of his aunt’s post-surgery care following the cosmetic procedures.
Dr Adams claims Mr Scoggins left Donda under the care of untrained friends while he headed out to a baby shower and that he ignored phone calls.
He goes on to say that his former patient took as many as 20 pain-killing Vicodins in less than 24 hours — and wound up choking on her own vomit because she was allow to lie flat on her back in bed.
“She aspirated the food contents into her lungs and that’s that,” stated Dr Adams. “And four minutes later you’re dead. Jimi Hendrix, that's how he died. It ain't magical."
Mr Scoggins denies the allegations.
Mrs West was pronounced dead at Centinela Freeman hospital on November 10, 2007.
A subsequent investigation was unable to determine the exact “manner of death,” but found both vomiting and “medication use for pain” as contributing factors.
Dr Adams was not faulted by the coroner, although he was criticised by some of his fellow medics who say Donda’s health issues meant she was simply not a suitable candidate for the surgery.
At 5ft 2in, she weighed 188lbs, and also battled high blood pressure and high blood sugar.
Kanye West, who was particularly close to his mother, has yet to comment.
