Protests are due to take place in Dublin today as former Victory Outreach building is unveiled as the new European hub for Scientology.

According to a number of reports, the building in Firhouse was purchased by the organisation for €6 million, and is set to be used as a headquarters for members to meet and study the religion's teachings.

Currently, the organisation boasts two small hubs in the Irish capital, but its latest purchase allows for a much larger crowd capacity.

With the public anticipating the arrival of Scientology leader, David Miscavige, ex-members are reportedly planning to gather at the organisation's new location to protest.

It is understood that current Scientology members have been making an effort to ingratiate themselves into the community while former members are distributing literature in the same area which highlights their grievances with the teachings of the 'church'.

While the recent census suggests that Scientologists in Ireland number less than 100, reports claim that the organisation intends to welcome hundreds of new recruits in the coming weeks.

The protest is set to begin at 2.30 this afternoon.

According to The Irish Independent, members of Fingal County Council have requested an urgent meeting with Dublin City Council.

The residents concerns over the gigs will be raised, and the meeting will focus on potentially moving them to another location in the park, rather than at the Ashtown Gate entrance of the park where they are due to be held.

Local residents were reportedly not consulted about the concerts.

'If they have it in a more central location, for example the monument or the 15 acres, near the Papal Cross, It will be at least controllable," councillor Howard Mahoney said at a meeting of Fingal County Council.

'It's a bit like Garth Brooks. We're not objecting to the thing taking place, we just feel there is a more suitable location for it.'

'It's a huge inconvenience for residents.'

Up until now, we have been forced to designate our Victoria's Secret underwear shopping to our inconsistent trips to Terminal 1 in Dublin Airport.

Long has the question been asked: 'Why is the only Irish Victoria's Secret at the airport?'

Seriously, we have been tempted to book ourselves a cheapo boarding pass just to get in and shop the goods.

However, the long-standing BT2 store on Grafton Street has been under renovation for close to a year now, as preparations are made to open a brand spanking new VS store.

Calls went out for new employees a number of months ago, and those jobs have been allocated.

The store will be opening it's lace-decorated doors in December, according to VIP.

The flagship store is rumoured to carry the entire underwear selection along with the brand's PINK line.

Just in time for us to buy ourselves a Christmas present, we say.

A number of posters have been placed around Dublin as part of the City Council's new anti-sexism initiative.

The move comes after a report commissioned by Dublin City Council recommenced a number of measures be undertaken to ensure that women “enjoy a safe, secure freedom of movement through the city.”

One suggestion was the development of “public awareness campaigns expressing zero tolerance of sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence against women and girls in public space”.

Bearing the message, “a sexist remark is not a compliment,” it is hoped the new posters will raise awareness of the sexual harassment that women face on a daily basis.

After joining the UN Women Safe Cities Global Programme in 2013, Dublin is one of 20 cities aiming to reduce harassment of women and girls.

According to thejournal.ie, a spokesperson said: “The decision to join the global initiative was taken not because Dublin is an unsafe city but because the city wants to share and learn from knowledge in other cities.”

A safety audit revealed that inadequate street lighting and a lack garda presence at night made women feel uncomfortable when walking through the city.

Catcalling and groping on crowded public transport were also noted as major areas of concern.

Going forward, Dublin City Council plan to introduce educational programmes for the public and service providers, in particular the gardaí, which “clearly defines what constitutes sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence in public space.”
