Dublin's rent crisis continues as new figures show prices are now almost 20 per cent higher than their Celtic Tiger peak.

According to the latest report from property website Daft.ie, rents nationwide are up by close to 12 per cent in the second quarter of this year.

The national average now stands at a record high of €1,159 per month, while the average price for a property in Dublin is €1,700.

Renters in the capital now pay €260 more per month than in 2008.

Speaking about the shortage of suitable rental accommodation, Ronan Lyons from Daft said: "At one point, it had never gone below 5,000 – we broke through that, unfortunately, about a year ago," he said.

"It's been steadily decreasing really over the last five years and it's now gone below 3,000 for the first time, so it gives an idea – particularly with more renters now than ever before, there are actually fewer properties available on the market – of just how tough the market is."

Housing and homeless charities say rising rental prices are one of the main factors forcing families into homelessness.

Roughan McNamara from Focus Ireland wants the government to tackle the issue of vacant properties.

"What we're hoping the Government will do is have serious incentives for landlords to rent out properties to get more rental properties available, but also penalties for those who do not rent out their properties and we're hoping that the Vacant Home Strategy, and indeed Rebuilding Ireland, will take urgent action on this issue."

Two men, believed to be on their way to carry out a gang-related shooting were have arrested by Gardaí in Dublin last night.

The men were in possession of a loaded fire arm and a can of petrol when the van they were travelling in was stopped by armed officers on the Kylemore Road in Ballyfermot between 7.30pm and 8pm yesterday evening in what is understood to have been an intelligence-led operation.

The suspects, aged 34 and 38, are being detained at Crumlin Garda Station on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, where they can be questioned for up to one week.

It's understood that the foiled shooting was not feud related, but rather part of what Gardaí describe as the regular internal operations of an organised crime gang.

Investigations are ongoing.

Meet Billy.

Billy is a Korean YouTube sensation whose unique interest in all things British and Irish has earned him quite the following over in this part of the world.

His channel is packed with tutorials on how to master accents from across the UK and Ireland, and for the most part, they're actually pretty spot on.

However, we're not sure we can say the same for his latest effort.

On Sunday, Billy uploaded his latest tutorial – and it's sure to give Dubliners a bit of a laugh.

The 25-year-old student spent six months studying in the UK, and it looks like he could have made a few Irish pals along the way.

From what we can tell, the Seoul native actually has a pretty decent grasp of Dublinese his explanation of words like 'craic', 'deadly' and 'banjoed', and while his accent skills leave much to be desired, we're willing to let that go.

Today is International BEER Day and if you needed an excuse to go out for one this evening, here it is.

What better way to pay tribute to our national beverage than sharing our favourite places to enjoy a pint?

To celebrate this proud day in style, we conducted a quick poll in the SHEmazing HQ and have come up with our list of the 10 best pubs in Dublin.

You know where to find us this evening…

1. Grogan's

Does this city gem really need an introduction? Among the many reasons we love Grogan's, we have to mention their more than decent toastie, the great pint and the eclectic mix of creatives, young and old.

A little slice of days gone by.

2. Fallon's

Nestled near Saint Patrick's Cathedral, we love this small, cosy, unpretentious pub which also boasts one of the best snugs in Dubbers.

3. The Long Hall

This iconic venue celebrated its 250th birthday last year and was recently awarded Dublin Pub of the Year.

On top of its amazing interior and buzzing atmosphere, the George’s Street institution offers the best window for people watching.

4. The Bernard Shaw

It might have a bit of a reputation for being a hipster haunt, but there are few places in the city you'll find such a great mix of people and an equally great vibe.

There are good deals on drinks and if you get a bit peckish or need a little soakage, the Big Blue Bus is perfectly poised to serve up a slice of alcohol-absorbing pizza to sort you out.

One week of summer.

5. Kehoe's

Who doesn't love a great old men pub?

This higgledy-piggledy pub has so much character and the best crowd you could hope for.

6. O'Neills

This sprawling venue on Suffolk Street is pretty much a landmark at that stage.

They do delicious food all day, have cheap drinks and live music every night. What else could we ask for?

7. Blackbird

With its quirky decor and covered outdoor area, this Rathmines gem has conquered our hearts – including for the delicious pizzas and fun games which make it that bit different to any other pub.

We definitely recommend.

8. The Beach Tavern

A quintessentially Irish old man pub – with enough craic to last a life time.

A five minute walk from the Aviva Stadium, it is a great spot for a pre and post match pint that won't cost you a fortune.

9. Pmacs

Owned by the same people as Blackbird in Rathmines and Cassidys on Westmoreland St, this fantastic place offers free crisps, board games and britpop/grunge soundtrack.

Oh, and the booze…

10. Toners

As old-school as they come!

This place smells like a pub your grandad would have drank in – and we just love it.

BONUS

The jury wishes to give an honorary mention to The Barge…. on a sunny day.

Although technically that has nothing to do with a pub, the craic is real along the canal when the sun is out.

The Luas Cross City project is ongoing, and is in the final stages of completion.

The first passenger services will be launched in December, and tram testing is underway.

According to a statement from Luas Cross City, there is still a bit of work to be done, and so there will be disruption to traffic this Bank Holiday weekend.

There will be significant traffic disruption on the North and South quays on the approach to O’Connell Bridge.

This is to replace the temporary road surfaces which have been in place during the construction stages of the project.

In addition, there will be smaller works taking place on Bachelor’s Walk, reads the report.

The moniker of nasty woman has been twisted from Trump's original insulting intentions towards Hillary Clinton into a fierce description for a woman who knows what she believes and isn't afraid to get loud when fighting for her rights.

Women have taken back the term, and now it is defining a very interesting event that's kicking off in Dublin City tonight.

Nasty Women Dublin is a global art movement, bringing together artists who identify with being a Nasty Woman 'in the face of threats to roll back women’s rights, individual rights, and abortion rights. '

The collective are playing host to a fundraising event in the Pallas Projects Studio at 6,30pm this evening.

'Nasty Women Dublin is a fundraising exhibition that celebrates the strength and diversity of art by female artists in Ireland, and which acts to promote the cause of women's rights, in particular reproductive rights and The Campaign to Repeal the 8th Amendment,' reads the event description.

The event itself is free, but all proceeds from the art sold at the event will go towards supporting the  Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment  and the Artists' Campaign to Repeal the Eighth Amendment.

The event will kick off with a performance by Margaretta D'arcy, entitled 'I am a killer they say.'

Attendees can then peruse the art selection while listening to the tunes of DJing triad Eve.

This event is definitely unmissable.

Thought your job came with some pretty decent perks? Think again.

While you spent this Monday daydreaming about sandy beaches and city scapes, the staff over at the White Moose Café were surprised with an all expenses paid, three-day trip to Disneyland Paris.

That's right, the owner of the popular Dublin café, Paul Stenson, has decided to celebrate its two year anniversary by closing up shop and treating all his employees to a well-deserved weekend away.

To celebrate our 2nd birthday, we're closing the cafe in Jan to bring all cafe staff to @disneylandparis!!!

A post shared by White Moose Cafe (@whitemoosecafe) on

Paul made the announcement after gathering all staff members in the adjoining hotel, Charleville Lodge for a sing-song in honour of the café's second birthday.

“I’m delighted to say we’re now doing very well for ourselves and I want you to give yourselves a round of applause for that. However and it’s not with delight I say this, it’s sadness – In January 2018, the cafe is going to close,” he said.

“Yes, the café in January is going to close for three days because we are going to bring you somewhere”.

Paul then held up a photograph of Disneyland Paris' famous Sleeping Beauty's Castle, asking his team: “Do we all know where that is?”

Of course, the news was met with cheers of shock and joy, with Paul concluding:

“We’re bringing you to Disneyland as a way of saying ‘Thank You’ for all the hard, very very hard work you’ve done”.

Look like we've got ourselves a candidate for boss of the year.

Tissues at the ready guys – Titanic is returning to Irish cinemas.

The Oscar winning film will celebrate its 20th anniversary later this month and in honour of this milestone, Odeon cinemas are bringing the classic love story back for one night only.

James Cameron's blockbuster starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio broke every record in the book when it was released in 1997, and while it remains a Christmas Day tradition in households across the country, many of us have never had the chance to watch the dramatic scenes play out on the big screen.

Odeon's branches in Blanchardstown, Charlestown, Coolock, Stillorgan and The Point will host the throw back to trump all throw backs on Thursday August 17, and according to the cinema's official Twitter account, you and a friend can get tickets for FREE.

It's not clear yet whether tickets will go on general sale, but make sure to keep an eye on social media for any updates.

Meanwhile, James Cameron has revealed that he is teaming up with National Geographic to create a new documentary titles, Titanic: 20th Anniversary.

The documentary will reportedly focus on the director's life while he was creating the film and will discuss the critical decisions he had to make while working on it.
