Dublin City Councillors want bin charges to be scrapped.

The Councillors are calling on the government to implement the motion, as they believe it will receive similar backlash as the water charges did.

They held an emergency meeting last night and voted in favour of the motion.

According to 98fm, they also supported for the local authority to take back control of collecting waste.

The new pricing scheme for bin collection is not yet known, however it is due to come in in September.

There's no word yet on wether the government will act on the motion.

It seems like we could be looking up at new street signs pretty soon.

Well, kinda.

According to The Sunday Times, Dublin City Councillors are talking about reverting the capital's street signs back to the traditional green versions.

So, they won't be necessarily new, but instead a fresh version of the old signage.

The newspaper claims that numerous councillors have called to replace Dublin's signs, as the modern blue version is "too bland."

Apparently, the font of the blue sign was created for Britain's motorway network back in the 1960s, and now councillors are calling out for something more bespoke.

Green Party Cllr, Ciaran Cuffe, said, "This is an opportunity to look at something more uniquely Irish. It's to do with the identity of the city and the streets."

We're all for going back to the traditional green.

Green Day are in the city centre ahead of their Kilmainham concert tonight.

The band, who have been spotted around town, took a trip down memory lane on Instagram.

Lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, took to the social media site to reminisce about the first time he played in Ireland.

In the post, Billie asked his fans if they can remember the name of the venue where Green Day performed.

"December 1991 we played Dublin Ireland above a pub. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the pub (sic).

"I know they called the gig above the pub 'the attic'… but what was the actual name of the pub? Does anyone remember?" he wrote.

However, he later updated the caption, and wasn't too happy about the franchise that replaced the pub.

"Ugh. It's now a Starbucks.. sorrow. I have a great memory of playing there. No one was allowed to dance in fear of the roof caving in. Everyone was so friendly. Maybe we should bum rush the Starbucks and play a gig there (sic)?!"

The pub in which they played their first gig was called the The White Horse Inn, and we're just as sad as Billie that it is now a Starbucks.

There are major delays all over the city this afternoon, so if you're out and about, be very wary.

Traffic lights are out of order on O'Connell Bridge on both sides, which is causing a heavy car build up throughout the North Quays.

AA Roadwatch has reported on Twitter that the lights are out of action due to the road works taking place on the bridge.

It has been said that drivers and public transport users are facing delays of nearly an hour throughout the city centre.

There is also heavy traffic inbound on St John's Road West by the Heuston Quarter.

Meanwhile, Luas users are facing delays on the Red Line.

There was an accident at the Kylemore stop, and even though the Luas is still operating, it's warning its passengers to expect delays.

It is expected that heavy rain and wind will sweep across the country, and motorists are being warned to be careful on the wet roads.

It's the end of the month and we're all feeling the pinch in the run-up to pay day.

However, that doesn't mean you have to hole yourself up on the couch every night eating whatever remains in the fridge.

There are plenty of delightful, cheap or free things to try in Dublin, and here are a few of our faves:

1. Cherry Comedy – €5.00

Cherry Comedy brings the laugher to Whelans every Monday night.

For a very reasonable €5.00, comedy fans are treated to a line-up of both new and seasoned comedians.

Just last night, both Neil Delamere and Foil, Arms and Hog took to the stage as secret guests at the show. And did we mention that gin and tonics are only €5.00 too?

2. Bubble Waffles at Eatyard €4.50

As if delicious confectionery wasn't enough to get you down to Eatyard, the Instagram opportunities from the Bubble Waffle Factory should seal the deal.

A bubble waffle, for those not in the know, is a delectable dessert inspired by the street food of Hong Kong.

The factory describe themselves as creating 'a bubble waffle, filled with ice cream, fruit, sprinkles, and any topping you can dream of, all so it looks like a cone.' We're so ready for dessert before dinner…

3. The Botanic Gardens – Free

If you feel like getting lost in the beauty of nature, The National Botanic Gardens of Ireland is the place to be.

If sprawling acres of beautful flower beds wasn't enough, the labyrinth of glasshouses is enough to keep any budding botanist enthralled for hours.

Check out the Palm House for truly breathtaking plants you won't see anywhere else in Ireland. And the little cactus room? We could stay there forever.

4. Aungier Danger – €3.00

Aungier Danger has become a Dublin institution.

The store creates some of the fluffiest, most delicious pastries, many of which have a great cause behind them such as raising awareness for homelessness or abortion rights.

Aungier Danger has a few locations dotted around Dublin, so find your closest one and get munching. We recommend the Very Berry or the Alice In Dangerland.

5. Women Should Be Both Seen & Heard – Free

Feel like brushing up on your feminist theory and gender equality knowledge for free?

Head down to Trinity College for the third in  a series of seminars for women and other under-represented groups, including non-binary folks, in research and academia.

The talk will focus on women making waves in the academic world, and Angela Mezzetti will lead the seminar.

It's free, but you have to register here

Dublin has a new Lord Mayor, and he goes by the name Mícheál Mac Donncha.

Mícheál was given the role as part of a political deal between Labour, Independents and his own party, Sinn Féin.

During his speech last night, he thanked his fellow Councillors and said he wants to celebrate the city we live in.

"Sincere thanks to all Councillors who voted for me. It is a tremendous honour to be nominated for this position by Sinn Féin and to be elected by a majority of the elected representatives of the people of our city".

"We have always been a diverse city, an international city as well as the proud national capital of Ireland. I look forward to celebrating that diversity."

Councillor Áine Clancy from The Labour Party was elected as Deputy Lord Mayor.

Áine and Mícheál celebrated the fact that they are both from the Northside of Dublin.

They also vowed to take on the housing crisis as a main priority.

Congrats Áine and Mícheál!

Around 23,700 homes in the capital still have to be built, despite them all having planning permission.

The Department of Housing recently released figures showing that only one third of houses have been completed in recent years.

36,956 homes were approved with planning permission, with 13,000 of those been granted in the last 30 months.

Of those, only 21 per cent have actually been built, while 5,000 are still under construction.

A whopping 64 per cent of houses still need to begin construction, bringing the number to nearly 24,000.

In the Dublin City Council area, no work has been started on 77 per cent of the homes, while in Fingal and South Dublin, nothing has begun on two thirds of the homes.

In Dun Laoghaire Rathdown 6,659 were granted permission and 46 per cent of works have begun.

According to 98fm, around 35,000 houses and apartments are needed every year to meet the demand and dampen house prices and rental costs.

Pride month is in full swing and with so many events due to take place across the capital this weekend, this year's festivities are not to be missed.

Dublin's Pride festival has been running since Friday June 16 and will come to an end this Saturday when thousands of people take to the city streets for the annual Pride parade.

Here's a run down of what you can expect over the weekend.

Friday June 23

Start as you mean to go on, isn't that how the saying goes?

The night before the main event, George performer, Veda Lady, will host a pride warm up show at Street 66, Parliament Street, Dublin 2.

Joined on stage by Pixie Woo, the pair will be entertaining audiences with a host of 80's classics from 9:00pm.

Admission is free, but make sure you get there early and nap yourself a table before the crowds descend.

Saturday June 24

The theme for this year's parade is 'find your inner hero', so expect to hear a lot of dodgey Mariah Carey covers belted out across the streets of Dublin.

The pre-parade rally kicks off at 12:00pm in St. Stephen's green with drag performances and speeches from David Norris and BelongTo executive director, Moninne Griffith (this year's Grand Marshal).

Taoiseach Leo Varakdar is also planning to march along the parade route with Fine Gael LBGT.

The main event starts at 2:00pm – setting off from St. Stephen's Green and heading toward Smithfield, Dublin 7.

An official after party, hosted by Panti Bliss, will be held in Smithfield square from 1:00pm to 7:00pm.

There will be food stalls, a family playground and an official Pride pop-up shop, along with performances from Niamh Kavanagh and Brian Kennedy.

But the party doesn't stop there.

Of course pubs and clubs across the city centre will be packed with parade goers, but bars like Pantibar, The George and Mother are all hosting their very own Pride parties.

Sunday June 25

For those of you brave enough to venture outside on Sunday, Street 66 Parliament Street are hosting some acoustic sessions from 5:00pm.

As well as that, Shirley Temple Bar's Pride Bingo will take its usual slot in The George this Sunday night from 9:00pm.
