It's safe to say many of us were devastated last year when Clerys was shut down.

Clerys was the centre of shopping for many years in Dublin when a company called Natrium came in and closed its doors, making 460 people unemployed.

And now, the Irish Times has revealed the fate of the department store building.

According to the newspaper, the new development will keep its original architecture but will include high-end retail units, a boutique hotel, office spaces and entertainment and leisure facilities.

In a statement, the company said: “Natrium’s vision is also to re-establish O’Connell Street and its surrounding environs as a place of importance in the social and cultural life of citizens and visitors, where building will be a source of civic pride.

"Commerce created by the development will generate €329.1 million annually to the Irish economy."

The year 2016: 12 glorious months packed full of tasty treats, amazing meals and delicious spreads.

Yes, in recent times, the food scene in Dublin has really exploded, with more and more trendy cafes and stunning restaurants cropping up on an almost weekly basis.

And while getting down our list to just ten entrants was certainly a struggle, here is SHEmazing!'s pick of the crop…

1. Mulberry Garden
Hidden down a small lane in Donnybrook, Mulberry Garden is no secret spot, but it remains year after year one of Dublin’s best restaurants. Its chic atmosphere and wonderful food make it a great date place for food lovers.

2. Manifesto
Sometimes, all you need is a really, REALLY good pizza. And on that topic, Manifesto delivers. If you have never tried the “Mamy”, (awarded best pizza in the world in 2006), a trip to this small joint off Rathmines Road is almost mandatory. If only they did takeaway…

4. Richmond
It didn’t take long for Richmond to become one of our favourite places in Portobello. With an incredible tasting menu for just €30 on Tuesday evenings, the chef, David O'Byrne, formerly of Mulberry Garden, has impressed with beautiful and inventive plates.

5. Bunsen
Between its three locations in the city centre, Bunsen is selling burgers like they are going out of fashion, and it only seems legit. For just a few euro more than a fast-food eatery, you can get the best cheeseburger in town. And the sweet potato fries are probably the most delicious we have ever tasted.

6. Amuse
On the opposite side of the scale, Amuse offers a fine-dining experience at its best. If you like your plates to look like artwork and your food to taste like heaven, this fabulous French restaurant is a must. Now, this level of refinement comes at a price but for a special occasion, you will have a truly unforgettable time.

7. Brother Hubbard North/Brother HubbardSouth
Formerly Sister Sadie, Brother Hubbard South and its older sister Brother Hubbard North have received several accolades over the past four years and we can only concur to the praise. We love the Middle Eastern-influenced cuisine boasting lots of fresh and healthy food at a great price. Will we continue to queue for brunch into 2017? YES!

8. Fia
Talking about the best brunch in town, Fia is a serious contestant. This small cafe down Rathgar Road offers a short and straightforward menu, which is for the best as it’s always a struggle to pick from it. With Instagram-friendly dishes that taste like a million dollars for less than a tenner, Fia got us properly addicted.

9. Asador
This sleek eatery is Dublin 4 turned barbecue into a classy experience. You can find lovely seafood in the menu but its the meats grilled over charcoal that made the reputation of the place. Excellent food, good service and beautiful setting all contribute to a wonderful meal.

10. Featherblade
If you are looking for a great steak at an affordable price, Featherblade is the place to go. We love the casual atmosphere, perfect for a dinner with friends, and the meat there is simply delicious. Again, the menu is short, and we suggest you try all the sides available as they are all delightful.

Poor oul Santa was pulled over by the guards this morning as he made a trip from Kildare to Temple Street Hospital.

Gardaí tweeted a warning about the man in red, telling road users to be on alert.

"Gardaí are asking the public to be aware of this man travelling from Kildare to Temple Street hospital today. Last seen on 25/12/15."

They had to check if Santa's sleigh was taxed and insured to be on the road, and after a quick look, the Gardaí let old Saint Nick pass through.

But today wasn't the only day Mr Claus made time for the kids; he dropped into the hospital earlier this week for a quick visit with patients and their nurses, and handed out a few treats while he was there, too.

We can't wait for him to come by our homes on Christmas Eve!

Most of us have had our fair share of dodgy landlords, but wait until you read about this one.

People living in a house in Cabra, Dublin, have made public a list of rules that they must live by when in the house, and it's truly… ridiculous.

Rules, which come from a woman named Miss Firmo, include showering every single day, and having to pay a fine if you miss a day of cleaning. We honestly don't know how these poor tenants put up with it.

The list of twelve pages was published on Independent.ie, after a man, who wants to remain anonymous, wrote into the Irish Independent newspaper to complain about his living situation.

Each tenant has to pay €300 per month for a shared bedroom (four people in a room), and these are just SOME of the 108 rules:

  • Ignore the house bell, do not stay in view when someone is at the door
  • Do not knock on Miss Firmo's bedroom door, instead call on the phone
  • If any reason cleaning is not done, the person will be fined €20 for task not done
  • Observe the floor, breadcrumbs need to be mopped up
  • After cleaning, put your clothes that you cleaned in in a plastic bag and put in the shed for washing
  • It is not allowed to use butter or oil in the wok
  • You are allowed to get visitors, but need to be given the full name and phone number of the person to Miss Firmo
  • All visitors will be included in bills
  • You are allowed to get a visit from your girlfriend/boyfriend if it is a relationship longer than a month. They also need to be introduced to Miss Firmo one month prior to visit
  • Smile you are on TV! Be advised there are hiding cameras in the common areas
  • Avoid speaking any other language than English
  • Do not turn central heating on after 6pm in any season of the year
  • You are forbidden to give anyone the Internet password
  • It is not allowed to spill water or any liquid anywhere in the house
  • Be very careful with food crumbs, it will kill the cat

Yep, and we're not even joking about the last one. That's rule number 108.

Despite trying to behave in the safety of November, everyone knows over the next few days any hope we once had of avoiding indulgence will swiftly evaporate into Winter's sky.

So, what better way to acknowledge the festive season than to combine two of its most celebrated assets in one soul-soothing beverage?

Cue: Boozy Hot Chocolate!  To mark the Christmas season, a number of Dublin’s top bars have added a spruced-up version of everyone’s favourite sweet drink to their cocktail menus.

Zozimus on Anne’s Lane has merged “a generous amount of golden rum” with “warm luxurious chocolate milk”, vanilla ice cream and crushed biscuit to create their festive offering.

Keep an eye out ladies, because the beaut that is Ed Sheeran is in Ireland at the moment.

Over the last few days, the star has been spotted around our fair green isle, and fans have been snapping him out on the street.

The singer took a break from music this year and previously revealed that he has a connection with Ireland through his grandmother.

According to the Irish Mirror, he was spotted around Belfast during the week but is staying in Dublin for the weekend.
