A mini-break to San Francisco or a last-minute trip to Boston might sound totally out of the question given your post-Christmas bank balance, but with prices like these you might just be able to make it work.

WOW air have just launched brand new routes between Dublin and USA/Canada, with fares starting at €199 one way including taxes and charges.

The Icelandic airline operates all flights with a stopover in Reykjavik, their main transport hub, and it's the first low-cost airline to offer transatlantic routes out of Ireland.

WOW currently flies to Boston and Washington DC, and will offer regular flights to LA and San Francisco from June, plus Toronto and Montréal from May.

"This is a game changer for WOW air, and arguably the travel industry, making travel to the US and Iceland both easy and affordable from Ireland," said WOW's founder Skuli Mogensen of the new routes.

"We are thrilled to add Los Angeles and San Francisco to our fast growing network."

As well as the North American destinations, WOW also flies from Dublin to Reykjavik for €95 one way, which is handy if you're planning a trip to Airwaves festival in the Icelandic capital this year.

Right, we're off to empty our bank balance of our last few hundred quid. See you in LA…

Tributes, memories and old photos have been pouring in on social media this morning, since news broke that music legend David Bowie had passed away.

As well as some beautiful messages from celebrity fans – everyone from JK Rowling to Kanye West has paid tribute – there have also been some more low-key tributes shared.

Like this one, for example, a candid moment from David Bowie's trip to Dublin with his wife Iman back in 1997:

The couple were in the city in August of that year for David's gig at Dublin's Olympia Theatre. The sweet picture was shared in Bowie's memory by Photos of Dublin this morning.

And they weren't the only ones who made a holiday around the gig, as they were joined by English artist Tracey Emin, being photographed by Bowie here with a very young fan on the quays:

"These photos were taken in Dublin, where we’d gone for the weekend," Tracey told the Daily Mail back in 2013.

"The little girl was an unknown interloper."

Bet that "unknown interloper" never realised her picture would still be doing the rounds 19 years on…

In the market for a new house? How about this one, in Portmarnock Co. Dublin.

Here's the outside, nothing to see here:

And the back garden looks fairly standard too – but is that a shed we spy?

Oh… not a shed, then.

As you can see, the three-bed family house – currently up for sale and advertised on MyHome.ie – comes equipped with a fully-furnished Irish-style pub in the back garden.

Slate floors, polished wooden bar – you'd be hard pressed to find better décor down in your local. It's not specified whether the furniture comes with the house, but as long as we can pull a pint or two we'd be happy.

The only catch? There's an asking price of €535,000… just over half a million euro.

Sounds like we may have to build our own back-garden pub instead.

If you fancy taking part (because who doesn't?!), then send an email over to cdwm@shiver.tv with all of your details.

You never know, you could be the next person to win that coveted grand.

With all the lights and festive flare running rampant in our lovely little capital during the Christmas season, you would think that all of the locals would be in soaking up all the atmosphere of town in December.

When actually, most of us are trying to avoid town like the absolute plague.

1) The crowds

I just want to walk up Henry street, buy a lipstick in MAC and go home.

WHY ARE YOU ALL MAKING THIS SIMPLE TASK SO DIFFICULT.

2) The traffic

It doesn't even matter if you manage to avoid rush hour because in December, you can look forward to traffic ALL the time.

3) The queues

Want to walk around Dublin with a nice hot chocolate and soak in the festive cheer?

Make sure to pencil in the twenty minute queue for said hot chocolate. And also for anything else you may want to purchase

4) The over zealous shoppers

You really learn at Christmas that people are actually RUTHLESS.

Do not go up against an Irish mammy with a load of shopping bags on the street because you will LOSE.

5) The slow walkers

Yes Dublin is beautiful and yes the lights are sparkly but I really just want to be able to walk up this street at a reasonable if not brisk pace. Thanks.

6) The people who cannot use umbrellas

Particularly relevant this year, is the onslaught of umbrellas because we are now forced to do our Christmas shopping in literal STORMS.

Guard your eyeballs with your life people.

7) The drunk people

Don't get us wrong, we LOVE getting drunk at Christmas.

But we don't like those who use the festive season to get so drunk that they literally destroy everything in their path (including the festive spirit).

8) Penneys… in general

All we want in life is to be able to go into Penneys and fill our baskets up with handy stocking fillers.

But the crowds are exhausting and don't even get us started on the queues. And good luck if you want to get a matching festive PJs set in a size ten.

9) Public transport

Public transport at the best of times can be painful, but in December all modes of shepherding people to and from town become literal travelling boxes of sweat.

The Luas gets a particular shout out on this one.

We may just be feeling a bit grumpy after spending the last few weeks Christmas shopping but we do still think Dublin is amazing at Christmas.

(But we personally won't be heading in til the New Year)

It may be as cold as the freezers they store the ice cream in, but that won't stop us!

Jinny Joe's ice cream shop is already a favourite spot in Crumlin, but now they've taken their yummy ice cream to Meath Street in the City Centre.

The shop opened just last week and despite the cold weather, it hasn't stopped people from getting their ice cream fill.

They have everything from Oreo sundaes, Bounty bar sundaes, and even Ferrero Rocher sundaes.

And they're not skimpy either! Just look at all the mouth-watering toppings.

The owner of Jinny Joe's, Paul, told the Daily Edge that his shop differs to the rest due to its adventurous menu.

"We listen to the customers, and make the change. Kids are so creative, we make them what they want, and of course all the tasting is done personally," he said.

He also regarded his menu as an open book, which he makes up everyday on a chalkboard, rather than a set sign.

"Next week for example, we've got an ice cream pizza." Did you hear that?! Ice cream PIZZA.

"It's the usual pizza base, topped with nutella and an ice cream base instead of cheese and tomato sauce. Customers can then pick the topping to go on top."

It's the stuff of dreams, ladies.

If you're somebody who doesn't or can't drink, you probably know the struggle of trying to keep up with your plastered mates on New Years.

You can go to the pub or club with them, but ultimately you'll either lose them or grow bored of their drunken antics.

But for those who want to socialise, soberly, on New Years this year, there is another option.

The Funky Seomra is an alcohol-free nightclub that has been running for the past seven years, yet mainly goes unnoticed.

However, this year it's planning to be bigger and better than ever.

The group is hosting an event at Filmbase in the heart of Dublin's Temple Bar. The night will begin at 9pm and run until 2.30am, with tickets going for €15 or €12 from here

There will be two dancefloors, three DJs, a smoothie bar and an organic cafe from The Happy Pear… Which sounds absolutely deadly, right?!

David Mooney, the club organiser, said that these features will make the event unlike any other.

"Having massages, musicians, cafes, all makes it a very, very different atmosphere," he told The Journal

“New Year’s Eve is our busiest night. The people who come before know what to expect, but other people are a bit unaware.

“But you’re all in it together because you’re in the middle of Temple Bar but you’re the only place with no drink.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is rolling out to Irish cinemas this week, and of course, the force has completely taken hold.

So much so, people are beginning to see Star Wars signs on the streets of Dublin.

One young man came across a road sign that featured a very Imperial-theme.

Now, we all know that this sign really means, 'No entry to goods vehicles', but we much prefer seeing that sign as the TIE fighter sign.

Although, some people may not get the reference…

When we hear of the great masters of art, like Leonardo da Vinci or Manet, we rarely think of Irish painters.

But the works of a Cork painter, James Barry are the subject of a new book which has just won a prestigious art literature award.

The 18th century artist begun painting in 1777, when he was 36 and he featured most of his famous work at the Royal Society of Arts in London.

But before James agreed to paint murals on the arts society's walls, he insisted he receive full control over subject matter.

The murals turned out to be highly personal to James, and he hid the true meaning from the Royal Society members.

Basically (what made him a total badass at the time), the images were of a Catholic nature, and Mr Barry painted them when Catholicism was not exactly in favour in Britain.

And if James was up front about his subject matter, he would have lost his commission and be banished from London immediately.

The huge murals took him seven years to complete, and it was only a few years after his death in 1806 that other artists began to study the messages behind the paintings.

When Ladurée opened its concession stand in Brown Thomas, it's fair to say we all went wild for the French pastry.

Well, now you're about to get a whole lot more of macaroon-loving in your life as the Parisian store is opening a new tea room on South William Street.

The franchise is to be operated by businessman John Collins who has taken over the lease of the high-profile premises, which was previously a café called Meet and Meat.

A private investor recently bought the building for a massive €2m, which was well above the original €1.4m asking price. What recession, right?!

Ladurée first opened its doors in Paris in 1862 and only in the past few years has opened concessions in Dublin and London.

Chairman of Ladurée, David Holden thinks that the new shop will do well because its clearly loved by the Irish customer.

“Our new retail store and tea room gives us an opportunity to build an even closer relationship with Ladurée customers. Our intention is to bring a lot more of what the Ladurée brand can offer to Ireland.”

The first phase of the business will offer its signature collection of macaroons in their fancy packaging. In January the shop will open its tea rooms where a company chef will offer a menu of sweet treats as well as savoury dishes.

Vogue Williams has been making a lot of headlines lately, especially with her extremely amicable split from Brian McFadden.

But now something else has put her straight in the headlines, and it doesn't look good.

The model has brought a breach of contract claim to the Circuit Civil Court in Dublin against a popular dental clinic.

Her claim is against the Seapoint Clinic Ltd in Blackrock and is listed for trial in court on January 13.

Vogue alleges that in January 2012, she made an agreement with the clinic for dental treatment – which included the fitting of braces and veneers, replacement of a temporary crown and cosmetic treatment – for an agreed sum of €7,000.

She also claims that she agreed to do an interview with an Irish magazine and a video testimonial promoting the clinic for a discount on the price of her treatment.

The 29-year-old then alleges that after having provided the clinic with the agreed publicity, it sought full payment for her treatment.

But Seapoint Clinic are not backing down and have made a counter-claim against Vogue. They are claiming that Vogue failed to attend a number of scheduled appointments and that it had been put to expense and cost as a result.

The clinic is also saying that Vogue owes them more than €5,000. Ouch.
