A man who fell ill on an Aer Lingus flight became “extremely violent” before falling unconscious and dying on board the plane.

The Lisbon-Dublin flight EI 485 had to be diverted to Cork when the dead man, aged 24 and a Brazilian national, bit a fellow passenger who was attempting to restrain him.

A 44-year-old Portuguese woman onboard the same plane has now also been arrested. It is believed that she was travelling with the dead man.

Gardai allegedly found 2kg of a powdered substance in her luggage and she is currently being detained under the Drug Trafficking Act, according to RTE News.

The Irish Mirror reports that the crew yesterday evening broadcast an emergency Pan Pan message three times in quick succession and advised air traffic controllers of an incident on board the Airbus A320-200.

The pilot requested clearance to divert and land at Cork Airport, telling controllers that there was a man “running amok” and that he had “injured one or two passengers”.

It is also understood there was a doctor and two nurses on board who tried to assist the restrained passenger.

In an astonishingly account, John Leonard, who was also on the plane, told Cork's 96fm that the Brazilian man was "on the ground shaking violently".

He went on to explain: "The noise he was making was like something I have never heard before. It's not something you'd hear everyday. It was like deep anguish is the best way I could describe it, very, very troubled.

"Not screaming in a sense, you know if you'd hurt yourself or something, just very guttural, from deep within him."

Mr Leonard furthermore said that it was a "very violent end". He stated: "To die that way in the back of an aeroplane, it's not right. It was not very pleasant at all."

All 168 passengers and six crew members were removed from the plane in Cork while gardai, airport paramedics and an ambulance rushed to the scene.

The passenger who suffered from the bite was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The Irish Mirror adds that although the dead man wasn't Irish he “may have been studying in the country”.

Describing the incident as a “medical emergency,” Aer Lingus said last night in a statement: “Flight EI 485 Lisbon to Dublin diverted into Cork due to a medical emergency on board.

“There were 168 guests and six crew members on board. The flight landed safely at 17.40 local time.”

While many are still coping with the emotional rollercoaster that was the great Garth Brooks debacle of 2014, there may be some recent developments that will ease the pain.

Garth Brooks might actually be coming to visit after all.

Hurrah! Country music fans everywhere can rejoice at the prospect of their favourite musician making the Irish trip they have been longing for.

However, it may not be exactly the kind of performance laden trip fans were hoping to get.

A new play based on the Croke Park debacle has just started a two-week run at Dublin's Gaiety Theatre – and apparently Garth wants a front row seat.

Are You There Garth? It's Me Margaret was created by Darren Smith, the man behind Anglo: The Musical and a former PR whizz for Garth.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Darren said Garth was keen to check out the play, described as a tale of "country music and Ireland's darkest hour."

Garth "knows about the show", says Darren, and he's "very interested" in checking it out.

"I wouldn’t be stunned at all if we had a special visitor in a Stetson next week," the playwright adds.

Last year, the plan was for the country superstar to kick-off his comeback world tour in Dublin's Croke Park. Residents of the area protested, taking issue with the fact he hadn’t secured a licence to do so. This was despite having sold 400,000 tickets.

Garth said he would: “crawl, swim or fly” in an effort to play the shows – but Dublin city council would only agree to three and the singer said it was either five shows or no shows.

In the end, almost a half a million ticket-holders were left pretty heart-broken and there was an estimated loss of €50million in expected revenue.

A Dublin-based flooring company has had one of its billboards labelled ‘distasteful’ and ‘transphobic’.

The billboard in question, which appeared on social media, features a photograph of Caitlyn Jenner alongside the phrase ‘Fancy a Change?’

Hamptons Floor Store posted images of the billboard on Facebook and subsequently it sparked quite a fierce debate.

While some commenters had called the billboard, which also features the hashtag #GetLaid, distasteful others noted that it was nothing more than a clever marketing campaign.

The hashtag has featured in previous advertisements of the company. A spokesperson for Hamptons Floor Store told TheJournal.ie that the billboard is “more of a celebration of the new Ireland that we’re in, given the passing of the (marriage equality) referendum – which we were very supportive of”.

A spokesperson for the TENI the Transgender Equality Network Ireland was not of the same opinion. They also told TheJournal.ie:

“Hamptons Floor Store’s intentions with this ad may have been good, but the execution is misguided and would have benefited from the input of TENI and the trans community.”

Previously, the company managed to get people talking when they displayed this billboard prior to the marriage referendum:

Even if we have been pronouncing it wrong all this time (oopsies), here at SHEmazing! Towers we're mega-fans of the chocolatey, hazelnutty, sugary spread that is Nutella.

In fact, we had long-ago assumed that it couldn't really get any better.

How very wrong we were: because now Nutella has just upped its game… and we're deliciously excited.

Yes, from this Friday, Brown Thomas Dublin will be offering an exclusive personalisation service which allows you to brandish the otherwise humble jar.

Never know what to get your friends and family for Christmas? Well sit back and relax; it may only be October, but you're already sorted – because it will be tubs of Nutella all round this festive season.

Brown Thomas is calling it the "ultimate stocking filler". Pish-posh, we say! These will be given pride of place under the tree (albeit away from the radiator), because it's unlikely that any other gift will top them. Ever.

You have up to nine characters to play with (fair play Alexander and Aoibheann, you just make it – better luck next time, Christopher and Blaithnaid) and can avail of the service in the Grafton Street store's Living Floor on Level 3.

Individual personalised jars are priced at €5.50, while there is also the option to purchase a personalised jar in a presentation box for €7.50.

The Nutella personalisation service is available exclusively at Brown Thomas Dublin from Friday October 16 onwards.

The Irish Rugby Village at the IFSC- formerly known as the Oktoberfest site is now the only place you need to be to watch the rugby if you didn't get match tickets.

While Irish fans are having the absolute craic at the World Cup, and making us all very jealous as they do so, we feel just a little bit left now.

However, now you have a brand new venue to enjoy the matches at, and the best part is: it's totally free!

The 2,000 capacity indoor and outdoor venue has giant screens, street food market and live entertainment, as well as full bars with the best of Irish craft beers.

To be honest, you had our attention at giant screens and totally won us over with the street food market.

The Irish Rugby Village kicks off Friday 9 October with New Zealand v Tonga from 8pm, and have planned to screen every match every weekend, through to the final on Saturday, 31st October.

The Rugby Village are also going to be hosting some very interesting guests over the new few weekends.

Some of the country's top rugby pundits and former international players are expected to make appearance on match days to give their analysis of upcoming games.

Any chance BOD himself might make an appearance? We can only hope.

So, you have all the perks of being somewhere with an amazing atmosphere, and you also have some of your home comforts too- because we all know that sitting down to watch the rugby includes snacks and probably a beverage or two.

When blogger-of-the-moment and full-on fashionista Jessika Banaghan celebrated her Debs three years ago, she couldn’t find the right dress – even after weeks of searching.

“So I went for a custom-made piece,” she explains in an exclusive, Debs-special sit-down with SHEmazing!

“I had been really inspired by a red-carpet look Carrie Underwood rocked for the Grammys – she had a full-sleeve detail that I found impossible to source anywhere, so in the end I had it made for me.”

She admits she had to splash out to get her perfect gown – and evidently, plenty of us feel similarly: the recently-released SHEmazing! Debs survey revealed that some young women in Ireland are forking out more than €1,000 of their special night.

On a day-to-day basis, however, Co Tipp-native Jess always has one eye on a style bargain.

“I have a load of Penneys stuff that I love.

“But you have to put aside time and be prepared to go rooting,” she advises. “Get ready to make a mess in the store!

“Don’t impulse buy. Pick-up what suits you – not what suits your mate or what looks good on a celebrity. And don’t try and force yourself to like a certain trend.”

Ms Banaghan has been blogging about fashion, beauty and lifestyle via her immensely popular ChaosWearingLipgloss for a little over two years now, and in recent months, things have really begun to take off.

I am loving @glenlo_abbey Such an amazing venue for the #itwbnbloggerevent

A photo posted by Jessika Banaghan (@jess_selfiegirl) on

“It’s incredible,” the 22-year-old adds. “But it’s time-consuming and it’s taken a lot of work to get it to where it is now.”

She continues: “It’s tough out there too; you’re trying to find your niche as a blogger. You have to stay true to yourself but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I always have one eye on the competition too.”

Jess then laughs: “My poor parents though – I always have a device in my hand. They’re forever telling me to put down my phone.”

Now in her final year studying event management at DIT, Jessika moved to Dublin from Tipperary aged 19, and this summer found herself inadvertently spending more time back at her family home.

“I went through a break-up,” she says, honestly. “There was a lot of heartache. But being around my mum forced me to get up in the morning and put on a bit of makeup, rather than just wallowing.

“And now I’ve come up the other side and I can actually take a lot of positives from the experience.”

These days, the DIT student is balancing her various commitments: namely college work, attending fashion or styling events in the capital, and – of course – blogging.

“But I’m pretty low-maintenance,” she says. “I don’t spend hours on hair and makeup; I only wear heels if I have to; I’m forever getting changed in my car en route somewhere or other.”

Finally, if she has one piece of advice for sourcing a killer Debs dress on a budget, she says that colour is key.

“Everyone will probably gravitate towards black, white, or maybe red,” Jessika explains. “So go in the other direction. Green is brilliant because it stands out, but it’s a shade pretty much everyone can wear.

“There should be more green in this world!”

Your next road trip around the country is about to get an awful lot more delicious.

Topaz has announced that it will be bringing Rockets by Eddie Rockets to petrol stations around the country.

Oh yes, 40 forecourts nationwide will now feature one of our favourite fast food restaurants. The little sister of Eddie Rockets is going to be popping up at garages around the country over the next year.

Douglas in Co. Cork was the first location to include the burger joint. We’re only a little bit jealous.

Garages at Dublin Port and Brennanstown in Co. Wicklow will be serving some of the takeaway’s most famous dishes by the end of the year.

A further 15 Rockets are expected to open in 2016 and Topaz promise the "most innovative forecourt dining experience in Ireland" to their customers.

The chain is famous for their impressive array of burger choices (the M50 burger is seeming very fitting at this point), and customers are assured that their food will continue to be made fresh on site.

Attempting to eat a giant chicken fillet burger while navigating the M7 on Friday evening could prove to be treacherous indeed, so we are hoping that there might some on-site dining available.

There are promises of “unique and portable” salads, hotdogs, tenders and milkshakes.

This should be interesting indeed, and just when we thought Barack Obama Plaza had reached peak forecourt levels. Amazing.

Dublin City Council are going to publish a new plan for O’Connell Street which will outline the future use and redevelopment of properties- including Clerys department store.

The draft of the plan is designed to encourage appropriate commercial activity while also protecting the area’s cultural, civic and historic character.

Areas included in the plan aside from O’Connell Street are: Henry Street, North Earl Street, middle Abbey Street, Westmoreland Street and D’Olier Street, reports the Irish Times.

What does this mean?

While the scheme is not granting permission to the council to shut down any shops already in existence, certain types of shops will not be opening there any time in the future.

Amusement arcades, bookmakers, fast-food outlets, mobile-phone shops or “adult entertainment” shops will all be refused permission to open according to the plan.

“It is an objective of the scheme of special planning control to protect such uses that contribute significantly to the special character of the area.”

We thought curry cheese chips have their own ‘special character’? Apparently not enough for the new and improved city centre.

While there are plenty of fast food establishments already open in the area, for anyone who had hopes of In-N-Out Burger making a glorious return this is just another nail in the coffin.

However, the scheme is available for public consultation and submissions for another eight weeks. So if you have any suggestions perhaps now is your chance.

The final plan will need to be approved by city councilors before any changes will come into force.

Over the last year audiences have seen Sky Sports make a huge effort with their coverage of GAA.

In efforts to improve their programming for everyone they’ve been pulling out all the stops to help with their analysis and draw in the viewers.

However, it would appear that GAA fans may not be completely abandoning their usual programming any time soon.

Former Dublin inter-country player John Magee had tuned in this morning and noticed that there were a few basic pieces of information that seem to have been overlooked.

Presenter Mike Wedderburn had a bit of a snafu when he was discussing the Player of the Year nominations:

Oops.

It was a good thing the ever-professional Rachel Wyse was on hand to try and correct the error. Although some fans were not going to forgive and forget so quickly.

We hate to be the ones to ruin your fun but Kelly Clarkson fans are in for some bad news.

The singer has been forced to cancel her remaining tour dates, including her performances at Dublin’s 3 Arena.

Under doctor’s orders the singer has had to cut her tour short. The Piece by Piece tour also had remaining dates in Canada and six concerts in the UK scheduled for November.

She had previously had to cancel six American dates due to illness. Doctors appear to have adivised her again that she should not continue her tour.

The 33-year old announced to crowds in LA this summer that she was pregnant with her second child. After the birth of her first daughter River, who is now one, she’s been outspoken about how difficult her pregnancy was:

"I had the worst pregnancy ever but I love her so much I want another one in, like, two years.”

She took to Facebook to announce that her doctors are ordering she be put on vocal rest and not bring her tour any further:

"I am truly sorry that I have to cancel the remainder of my tour dates. I was looking forward to sharing this tour with all my amazing fans in Canada and the U.K. Unfortunately my doctor is telling me I have to stay on vocal rest, but I am working hard to get better as fast as possible."

Oh if only the walls could talk! Yes, we reckon that playboy Eddie Irvine’s former abode might have a few tales to tell.

And while a swish property the retired F1 driver once called home hasn’t actually been in his possession for more than a decade, to this day it still retains bags of millionaire star quality.

The Dalkey residence is located on the seaside suburb’s upmarket Sorrento Road, surely one of the country’s most prestigious addresses: familiar faces in the locale include the likes of Bono.

Purchasing the then-more modest property from developer Harry Crosbie back in the early Nineties, Mr Irvine snapped up the deeds for just €230,000.

Expanded by architect Joe Kennedy and now totaling some 500sq metres, the four-storey house is perched on hillside grounds.

Although the stand-out features are numerous (you know yourself; cinema room and master bedroom with views over over Killiney Bay to Bray Head), the highlight is undoubtedly a six-metre indoor plunge pool which is linked via a glass tunnel to a 23-metre outdoor pool. Swoon.

Eddie, now a successful property investor with dozens of dwellings around the world, did well from the eventual sale too: he moved-in in 1993 just as his Formula One career was taking off. But in 2004 he packed-up and sold it on to businessman Dave Cullen for a cool €5m.

It’s changed hands again since then and a year ago it was available to rent for €7,500-a-month… today you’ll need to fork out €1,000 more.

Still – we’re sorely tempted to put in an offer (sure we are). Here, SHEmazing! takes a look around…
