Irish folk are famed for a great many great things – although whether dancing is one of them is somewhat questionable.

A wedding, on a night out, or attending a festival; the moves on offer on homesoil are less Rio Carnival, and more Roscrea carousal.

Not that we mind – because unchoreographed craic is part of what makes the country great.

However, just every so often, it’s nice to turn our hands to something a little different – namely a spot of Brazilian-inspired samba.

Last month, talented Irish-Brazilian bossa band Nova Collective hit Dun Laoghaire pier to record a video for their new single, Samba De Amor. And with the help of director Tom Speers they managed to rope in some unsuspecting locals too.

"Our concept with this one was very simple: can Irish people dance like a Brazilian?" the band said afterwards.

Well, suffice to say we're totally in love with the results.

For those not yet in the know, Nova Collective is led by outstanding pianist Louis Ryan, and boasts a lineup of exceptional jazz, traditional Irish, classical and Latin musicians.

Their live shows often involve more than music (spectators are always in for a treat) and they're poised to play the Sugar Club on Sunday, August 16.

Ed Sheeran is really settling into Irish culture this week.

Not only has he managed to sell out his massive Croke Park gigs this weekend, he’s also making time to get in touch with his Irish family.

At a press conference earlier this week he explained that while he was delighted to be able to spend some time pottering about our grand little island, he wouldn’t exactly be spotted in Coppers buying pints for all, yet.

Can't wait for this weekends shows at Croke Park stadium. I love me some Ireland

“I’ve been at my gran’s. We ate pasta last night, hung out with the dogs… Nothing really rock’n'roll to be honest.”

Sounds lovely to be honest, who doesn’t love pasta and puppies? Ed’s granny lives in Wexford, so surely some fans were wondering around hoping to catch a glimpse of the star singer.

Croke Park night #1 !

Ed is obviously delighted to be able to play for such a massive crowd, saying that last night's gig was "mental" on Twitter. He is clearly quite the family man also:

“Croker is time to catch up with my gran and get cups of tea and not necessarily go out and do 15 Jagerbombs. Not saying that won’t happen at some point, but for this first few days I’m focusing on family sh*t.”

Oh Ed, we love you even more.

If that wasn’t enough to make us all giddy, last night Ed found the perfect way to combat any nerves he had before heading out on stage.

He grabbed a hurley and sliotar and had a fine little puck about before greeting the huge crowd. We wonder if anyone told him it was upside down though?…

Not content with mastering our favourite past time, Ed further immersed himself in our Irish ways when he brought Swords natives Kodaline on stage to sing their single All I Want and Raglan Road.

Who else is excited to see what happens tonight? We certainly are.

We feel a little ill even thinking about this – but apparently you can now buy a colossal, mind-boggling 32in pizza in Dublin.

Being dubbed Ireland's biggest pizza (and we believe them), Pinheads Pizza on South Circular Road is seemingly doing a roaring trade.

Ordinarily setting you back €32, if you can polish it all off – along with two of the establishment's milkshakes – you'll be given your dinner for free, as well as a spot on their wall of fame.

"As part of a recent revamp of our store, we decided to come up with some new ideas which included the creation of the Biggest Pizza in Ireland," their website states.

Sadly, at the moment Pinheads don't deliver – they say they simply haven't designed a big enough box yet – but if you're in the area, would YOU be up for the challenge?

This morning when Thalia Heffernan walked the catwalk for the Brown Thomas’ Autumn/Winter ’15 collection, no one could tell that she has suffered a violent attack just hours earlier.

The stunning 20-year-old took to Facebook to write an emotional message calling out her attackers and describing the stress that she is understandably still feeling from the incident.

“To the horrible girl who hit me in the face and robbed my bag this morning,” the post began. “To the guy who helped her, and to their thieving little friends for watching.”

Ms Heffernan explained how the group of teenagers hit her repeatedly in the face and shoved her in an attempt to take her handbag.

“What’s worse is that there was nothing I could do to even attempt to defend myself, despite screaming and crying after them,” Thalia revealed.

The Irish beauty, who is a known athletics fiend, felt helpless as the gang of youths attacked her.

She has released a further update, saying that the Gardai are investigating the incident and that she is assisting them in every way possible. She explained how “The most important thing now… is getting these kids off the streets so parents, brothers and sisters don’t have to worry about their loved ones being harassed, robbed or worse.”

Thalia also revealed that the police have since found her handbag in the Cuffe Street flats in Dublin City Centre but that it was emptied of all her belongings.

Ms Heffernan ended her post saying that she hopes she can assist the Gardai in catching the culprits and holding them responsible for what they have done to her and, no doubt, countless of others.

If you haven’t heard, The Bachelorette is an American dating show which is hugely popular and on its 11th series.

It’s a spin off from the American series The Bachelor and its raking in some serious viewership figures in the US.

This time around, the show revolves around single gal Kaitlyn and her 25 potential husbands-in-waiting.

There’s no word yet on what Tourism Ireland thinks of all this, but in Monday night’s episode, the cast were jetted off to Dublin. Indeed, Kaitlyn said she was seriously excited when she heard of their destination.

She wrote in her blog for People magazine: “I have always wanted to go there. I used to live in Newfoundland, Canada, and it was like a mini Ireland.”

They opened the episode saying that Ireland was the perfect place to fall in love (is that a thing people say?).

Kaitlyn goes on a series of dates in various locations around our capital city, including one in Christ Church cathedral where they were serenaded by The Cranberries!

“Once we got inside,” Kaitlyn wrote, “the '90s child in me was screaming. I LOVE The Cranberries and having Jared [one of the contestants] with me in that moment was so romantic!!!”

They did all things you would expect on a date in Dublin, took a stroll in Stephen’s Green, high-fived a leprechaun, and held a good old fashioned Irish wake for Kaitlyn – wait, what?

Yep the hopeful bachelorette lay in a coffin while all of her potential matches said a few words about her, and yes it was seriously weird.

But after that trauma of that the gang all headed off to the Guinness Storehouse and had a few drinks together, presumably happy in that Kaitlyn was in fact, very much alive.

Although this might sound like all fun and games, Kaitlyn admits that she is finding it quite difficult as she tells one hopeful contestants to go home each week.

“I used to think, OK, how hard could it really be to date a bunch of good-looking dudes and have all these feelings?! I'll admit, I didn't think it would be hard, but I'm here to tell you guys it's FREAKING hard.”

With today set to be a serious scorcher, our prayers are finally being answered. Yes, it's official: a full week after the state exams kicked off, the Leaving Cert weather has arrived. However, we've just realised we will be in work all day (being a grown-up is the worst).

So we decided to do a round-up of things to do once you leave the office this evening. These are all free or cheap activities and mean you can benefit from the gorgeous day while still being home in time for the midweek-movie.

  1. Pull a sickie

You could always just not bother with work, it is after all, sickie season. And frankly, offices will be largely empty today anyway. So why not spend the whole day getting burnt to a crisp. A word of warning, however, returning to your place of employment tomorrow (illness magically vanished) resembling a beetroot in colour may arise serious suspicion about the authenticity of your day-off.

  1. Go to a beer garden

We know it’s a school night, but once the sun is out in Ireland, you have to make the most of it. After all, we just don’t know when we will be graced with its presence again. Head to a beer garden and treat yourself to a midweek pint or cocktail – or sparkling water if you don't do hungover Thursdays. Some of the capital's best beer gardens include House on Leeson Street, the Bernard Shaw on Richmond Street, Dicey's on Harcourt Street, the Living Room on Cathal Brugha Street, Gibneys of Malahide, Harry Byrnes in Clontarf, and Smyths in Ranelagh.

  1. Read a book in Stephen’s Green

Stephen’s Green seems like it could be in a completely different country once the sun is shining. Grab a book (and a blanket if you don’t want to sit on the grass) and get yourself a spot to relax in while soaking up the last of the rays from the day. Get a 99 cone on the way to complete that summer vibe.

  1. Grab a bite on South William Street

Might be a bit on the pricey side in certain establishments, so catch one of the early bird menus instead. South William Street is paradise in the sun and with most restaurants having the option of sitting outside to enjoy your meal, it really is like being on your holidays. Alfies and Dakota both charge €20 for a decent feed if you're seated before 7pm.

  1. Get your exercise outdoors –

If you’re going to be exercising anyway, why not do it outside where you can get some fresh air and get your dose of vitamin D? There are loads of parks and routes around the city that would be perfect for an evening jog, some coming with additional outdoor exercise machines. If you’re on the southside, Deerpark in Mount Merrion features some adult monkey bars, and for the Northsiders, along the seafront in Clontarf is dotted with equipment to help you work out.

  1. Head to the beach

Here’s the upside to working all day: once you get to the beach in the evening, the mad rush is over. There will still be a few stragglers and no doubt a few teenagers having a sneaky can with their pals, but all-in-all, you will have skipped the madness of earlier – which is perfect for those wanting a stroll. Why not cook your dinner in advance, throw it in a lunch box and have a little picnic on the sand? It stays bright until 10pm now so you can definitely get a few hours in after work.

As you may have heard, Forbidden Fruit is a music and arts festival which is taking place in Dublin this bank holiday weekend. It's happening in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham in the heart of Dublin this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Here's why we think this is the place to spend your bank holiday weekend:

1. The Music

Ok this one might be a bit obvious, but it has to be said that Forbidden Fruit is offering a huge variety of music which caters for all tastes this weekend.

Friday night sees Fatboy Slim take to the stage for what promises to be a serious party. Fatboy slim rocked the main stage at Electric Picnic in 2013 and festival goers are eagerly anticipating his return.

Hip Hop fans will be happy to hear Wu Tang Clan will be joining the Saturday night line-up following Joey Bada$$ on the main stage.

Electronic music takes over the main stage on Sunday with Cyril Hahn being the main act of the evening.

Here's a full break down of the stage times for each day:

2. The comedy

Forbidden Fruit is also well known for it's variety of comedy gigs over the weekend. Ranging from unknown comedians to household names, there really is something for everyone.

If you want to take a break from the music, why not go for a laugh at 18:50 on Saturday night as David McSavage takes to the comedy tent.

The Forbidden Fruit talent search final takes place tonight in the Button Factory and is €5 on the door. They have gone from fifty two contestants to twelve finalists, one of which will perform on the comedy stage at 16:50 on Saturday.

3. The Bulmers bus

As if the location wasn't good enough, Forbidden Fruit are running a FREE Bulmers bus from Dame street so you don't have to make the walk. Starting at 4pm Friday and 2pm Saturday & Sunday, Forbidden Fruit want you to start your weekend in style!

4. The after party

The folks at Forbidden Fruit have informed us that the part doesn't stop once the lights go down in Kilmainham, the Forbidden Fruit nights begin!

A host of different acts will be taking to several different locations around Dublin city each night once the festival ends.

The venues for Friday night include the Button Factory, The Grand Social and a surprise guest in Hanger.

Very exciting news for any Groove Armada fans, as they are playing Pygmalion on Saturday night after playing the festival that day.

Pygmalion also welcomes Booka Shade on Sunday while Adam Beyer and Matador will be hitting Hanger.

These tickets are all on sale now and are selling fast!

5. The fashion

Here at Shemazing!, our favourite thing about festival season is always the fashion! Whether it's celebrities or just one of your friends, there's nothing better than a good festival outfit post on Instagram!

Here's some outfit inspo for heading to Forbidden Fruit this weekend.

This blouse is €6 and the shorts are €15 and are both from Penneys. Weather permitting, this would be an ideal festival outfit!

If you can make your way through the weekend without wellies, then you NEED these lace up high leg sandals. They are €45 and from New Look. They are also available in tan.

A rain-coat is a must at any Irish festival, which means your fab festival attire is covered up! But not with this clear hooded mac, you can still show off your outfit while staying dry. It's €30 and available in New Look.

Tickets from Forbidden Fruit are still available on their website.

We're the first to admit that we get all overly-excited when a new shop opens – because while we may be broke a lot of the time, we can still do a mean hour of dedicated browsing no matter what our account balance says.

So fashion enthusiasts based in the Dublin area will be only delira to hear that new kid of the fashionable block Finery London is about to land in the capital.

Yes from tomorrow (the countdown is on) the womenswear label will emerge via a pop-up based at BT2 on Grafton Street, and we're quietly confident that the debut collection for S/S 2015 is going to be a huge success.

Set up by Caren Downie, previously Fashion Director at ASOS and Buying Director at Topshop; Emma Farrow, previously Design Director at Topshop, and Rachel Morgans, previously Womenswear Buyer at ASOS, simple jersey dresses start at around the €40-mark, while woven cami tops are €35, and leather sandals are €65. The most expensive item is €205.

Today, Emma Farrow reveals: "This isn't about following, or setting trends, but about creating smaller, more considered collections. We're designing for the girl who knows her own style and doesn't take herself too seriously."

Finery London is usually only available online at finerylondon.com, but the pop-up will remain at BT2 for a total of four weeks – giving you plenty of opportunity to shop.

Elite Singles decided to find out which county in Ireland has the most attractive single people – as perceived by themselves that is.

Asking 47,300 single people across the country, the study showed that people in Dublin are the most likely to consider themselves ‘sexy’ – closely followed by Greystones, Limerick, Cork and Galway.

If you’re looking for a more modest single Irish man, you may want to head to Kilkenny, which came in at number 10, followed by Clonakilty in West Cork, Wicklow, Naas and Swords.

Hmm, unfortunately this information can’t tell us if Dublin is where all of the attractive singles are – or just where all of the cocky singles are…

We reckon we'd take our chances in Kilkenny!

It has been announced that Paolo Nutini will be headlining in Marlay Park this summer!

But wait, that’s not all…the Scottish singer will also be joined by very special guests, Imelda May, Alabama Shakes and Gaz Coombes. Phew, what a line-up!

Paolo is no stranger to Ireland having played Dublin’s 3Arena last November not long after the release of his third album, Caustic Love.

The concert will take place in Dublin’s Marlay Park on Saturday 4th July 2015 with tickets going on sale this Friday, 6th March at 9am and are priced at €49.65.

Now these are tickets we definitely want to get our hands on – we’re certainly having a very lucky summer music-wise in Ireland this year!

"When I die, Dublin will be written in my heart."

James Joyce got it right when he said that beautiful line about his city – and it's how many Dubliners today still feel.

There's something magical about a capital city with a small-town vibe, but what exactly is it that makes Dublin so special?

Tara Morgan and the folks at Photos of Dublin took to the capital streets to ask them to describe the city, its people and its memories in just a few words.

A new campaign launched today urges people to ‘Give It Up’ in a bid to raise much-needed funds for Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin and the National Children’s Research Centre in Dublin.

To raise some much-needed funds for the Children’s Hospital in Crumlin, all you need to do is raise donations by giving something up for 40 days. It could be the sneaky chocolate bar you have after lunch or your weekend chipper visit – it’s all for a good cause!

It’s not just your favourite food you can give up – it could also be those shopping sprees you don’t need or you could even take something up such as running to raise funds for the campaign!

Irish rugby player Johnny Sexton and SKY Sports presenter Rachel Wyse, were on hand to help the fundraising body of the hospital, CMRF Crumlin to raise awareness of the new campaign. The famous faces were also joined by hospital patients Jaden and Aoife to appeal to the public to lend a hand in the fund-raising.

All money raised will go towards new projects and cutting-edge equipment at Our Lady’s Children's Hospital, as well as pioneering paediatric medical research at the National Children’s Research Centre.

Commenting on the campaign, Johnny Sexton said: “The ‘Give It Up’ campaign is an excellent campaign and will go a long way to help raise funds for the hospital. It’s such an inspiration to meet some of the patients at the hospital today and witness their positive spirit and courage, despite the health problems they are facing."

Donations are at the public’s discretion and all gestures at giving up are welcome – simply log on towww.giveitup.ie today.
