Any Ed Sheeran fans out there will no doubt know the saga of the Ed/Ellie Goulding/Niall Horan love triangle inside out… but now Ellie herself is claiming it's not all true.

Although none of the three stars have ever officially confirmed what happened until now, it's widely thought that Ellie cheated on Ed with One Direction's Niall back in 2013. 

Ed may have moved on with his (now ex) girlfriend Athina Andrelos, but his feelings about the Ellie situation were laid out for all to see in the lyrics of Don't, one of the biggest singles from his current album, X.

Including lyrics like, "And I never saw him as a threat, until you disappeared with him to have sex of course… It's not like we were both on tour, we were staying on the same f***ing hotel floor," the song makes no secret of the singer's anger and frustration.

Now though, Ellie Goulding has spoken out about the drama for the first time, and she alleges that she never even dated Ed, let alone cheated on him.

"I was never in a relationship with Ed. I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing," the Lights singer revealed in the current issue of UK Elle.

If that is the truth, we're wondering what exactly was going on in this picture, taken at the 2013 MTV VMAs…

As for Niall, that seems to be a different story altogether, as Ellie did admit to having gone on "a few dates" with the Mullingar man.

Whatever the truth may be, the 28-year-old says she is keen to put the past behind her and not have her love life picked apart by the media. "I find it so frustrating that female musicians are constantly defined by the men they have or haven't dated," she told the magazine. 

Ellie has even discussed the issue with her celebrity BFF Taylor Swift, another singer whose dating life seems to be a matter of public importance. "It's something I've talked about with Taylor [Swift] a lot. She definitely feels that. She gets bothered by it," Ellie explained.

"It's like, you can be a great artist, you can write great songs, but the thing that everyone is going to talk about is some relationship they think you have had or not had. It's definitely something we both think happens to female artists over male artists."

We definitely appreciate Ellie's point of view, but for some reason we find it very hard to believe that nothing went on between her and Ed. We're taking this awkward post-relationship hug at the 2014 Victoria's Secret show as proof:

There is no celebrity friendship quite like theirs, which is why so many of us have often posed the question of why Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift have never taken things to the next level.

Well, Ed has revealed the real reason why romance has never blossomed between himself and Taylor – and it is probably the most hilarious thing you will hear all weekend.

The Bloodstream singer was chatting on radio show The Breakfast Club this week when the presenters asked him why he and Taylor never became a thing.

When co-host Angela Yee suggested that Taylor ‘wasn’t Ed’s type’, he replied: “Too tall. I don’t know man, I feel like we look like cast members of The Hobbit.”

He hilariously added: “She’s like in the elven kingdom. She’s like, you know, hanging out with Galadriel and I’ve got hairy feet.”

Did he really just compare himself to a hairy hobbit? And is it acceptable to find that really attractive?

While Ed and Taylor may be just good friends, the star did share his thoughts on the Bad Blood singer’s latest squeeze, Calvin Harris.

“He’s a really nice guy. Really, really nice guy. There are certain people that are just nice people in the industry,” said Ed of Calvin.

If he gets Ed’s seal of approval, consider us sold.

It's been over two months since Ed Sheeran split from his girlfriend Athina Andrelos, and it seems this time he wants a girlfriend who's a bit more down-to-earth.

The Thinking Out Loud singer hasn't had the best luck with the ladies over the last couple of years, but his friends are trying to get him back out there with someone new, and even though the singer is said to be "very picky," they already have a few possible matches lined up.

"His friends want to set him up with a new girl and have their eye on a few people they've mentioned to him but he's very picky for obvious reasons," a source told The Mirror.

So what's he looking for in a new girlfriend? Someone just like the rest of us, it would seem. "Ed doesn't want a famous girlfriend, he just wants someone down to earth and normal to share his life with," the insider revealed.

Unfortunately, any of Ed's megafans can rule themselves out, as the singer's pals refuse to let him get involved with anyone who only wants him for his fame. "His friends are looking out for him," the source said.

We can understand why the Don't hitmaker wants to be cautious when trying to meet someone new, as his last few matches haven't exactly worked out too well.

Not only did Ellie Goulding reportedly ditch him in favour of a one-night-stand with Niall from One Direction, but Athina called it quits in March after a notoriously drunk night out at the BRITs caused tension between the pair.

Ed was pictured looking more than a little worse for wear a few hours after the awards ceremony ended, and the photos unfortunately were splashed all over the media by the time the poor lad woke up with a hungover head the next day. 

Sources say Athina was NOT happy, and broke the year-long relationship off a few weeks later.

"Ed's mates weren't too keen on Athina and weren't disappointed when they split after the Brit Awards. It's very unlikely they'll be getting back together," the insider said.

Any normal, down-to-earth ladies out there (who preferably have never heard of Ed Sheeran before)… consider this your official call-out!

Well, this is awkward.

Ed Sheeran has – cringe alert – revealed that Elton John recently got him in a spot of bother by mailing him a load of, ahem, inappropriate videos.

The elder singer-songwriter sent the 24-year-old a total of 17 emails containing lewd attachments – shortly after he landed Stateside and proceeded through US Customs.  

Elton, 68, presented Ed with the Songwriter Of The Year award last night at the Ivor Novellos, and the star took the opportunity to reveal in his speech that he is often at the receiving end of pranks masterminded by the Candle In The Wind singer.

Backstage, Sheeran then went into further detail about his “worst” ever experience: “I got to customs in New York once and I had 17 new emails from him and I was like, something must be important.

“And they were all video attachments, and I downloaded the first one, and yeah – it was good.

“And I was at customs and it’s pretty hard to get into America anyway without [having to deal with] those sort of videos.

“It happens quite a lot.”

Oh Elton! You’re a big messer.

The Ivor Novellos, which took place at fancy-pants Grosvenor House Hotel, celebrates British and Irish songwriting and composing.

Also honoured on the night was Co. Wicklow’s Hozier, who picked up a best song award for Take Me To Church.

It's been almost two years since Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding's rumoured relationship came to a messy end, but Ed has just revealed some more information.

According to numerous reports last year, Ellie slept with One Direction's Niall Horan while she was still seeing Ed on and off, causing the blossoming romance between the two singers to come to an abrupt stop.

Ed may have moved on with his (now ex) girlfriend Athina Andrelos, but his frustration and anger about the Ellie situation was laid out for all to see in the lyrics of Don't, one of the biggest singles from his latest album.

Including lyrics like, "And I never saw him as a threat, until you disappeared with him to have sex of course… It's not like we were both on tour, we were staying on the same f***ing hotel floor," the song makes no secret of the singer's feelings.

 

Ed reportedly confirmed last year that the song was indeed about Ellie, but in a new interview he says he never intended to do so.

"I never let it slip," he told Entertainment Weekly in a feature published yesterday. "What happened was one of the newspapers in England just printed that it was confirmed when it never was. We got in touch, and they took the story down. But obviously the damage had already been done by that point because every other newspaper picked up on it."

It's the raw emotion behind Don't that has made the song such a hit, and Ed says he wouldn't have written it any other way. "I had to be as honest as possible in that song because otherwise what’s the f***ing point? There’d be no anger or pain in that song if it was just very sweet and nice," he explained.

"The whole reason people connected to it was because everyone’s been that angry at one point, everyone’s hated their partner or spouse like, 'Don’t f*** with this.' For me, it needed to be done."

Well said, Ed!

Rita Ora has revealed that she has collaborated with our favourite man to sing about their friendship, and we could not be anymore excited.

During an interview with Noisey, Rita said: “I did this incredibly beautiful song with Ed about our friendship; he's one of my best friends."

"It's amazing having a friend in this industry of the opposite sex that you haven't hooked up with. He's such a legend. I respect him in so many ways," she said.

Lets face it though, who doesn't love Ed?

She has also admitted that her new music is a lot of her complaining about her love stories that went wrong while showing "gratitude and appreciation" at the same time.

The 24-year-old went on: “The selective people that have written with me have seen that I'm writing about controversial things, but they understand that it's time.

Ever since Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris were first spotted together back in March, we've been waiting for them to officially confirmed their relationship.

The pair have been spotted holding hands a few times, and Calvin's even braved a severe cat hair allergy to hang out with Taylor's feline pals, but until now that's about as far as the rumoured romance has gone.

Now though, the pair have openly addressed things for the first time, getting seriously cosy at last night's Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas. Taylor took home a whopping eight awards on the night, and was quick to show her happiness by leaning in for a kiss and a hug with her new man on more than one occasion.

According to Us Weekly, the singer got up and chatted to numerous friends during the show's commercial breaks, and introduced Calvin to pals including Hailee Steinfeld, Nick Jonas and others.

Calvin definitely passed the "suitable boyfriend" test by getting pally with Taylor's bestie Ed Sheeran, who sat next to the pair during the show.

We sense a serious bromance here:

Sources close to Taylor say that she is smitten with Calvin, and that the pair make a great team. "They're making time for each other in a way that other guys she's been with haven't before," an an insider told Us Weekly. "They're taking it one step at a time."

The Shake It Off singer opened up about her dating woes in a recent interview with Glamour US, saying the media refused to allow her to have a normal love life like any other twenty-something.

"I think the media has sent me a really unfair message over the past couple of years, which is that I’m not allowed to date for excitement, or fun, or new experiences or learning lessons," she admitted. "I’m only allowed to date if it’s for a lasting, multiple-year relationship. Otherwise I’m a, quote, ‘serial dater’. Or, quote, ‘boy crazy.’"

We're delighted to see things working out for her.

Awww! We always knew that Ed Sheeran was a big softie at heart – and now there’s yet more proof.

The 24-year-old singer-songwriter was mid-way through a performance of his hit All Of The Stars in Austin, Texas this week when he noticed a man waving around a sign signalling his intentions for the evening. Being a decent sort of guy, Ed invited him and his unsuspecting girlfriend up on stage to join him.

Cue the man sharing a heart-warming speech with the audience, complete with glowing references to his other half – all peppered with plenty of Ed Sheeran nods too.

“Just Thinking Out Loud here,” he began, before adding that his girlfriend is “amazing” and “talented,” and “so beautiful, inside and out.”

 He then, you guessed it, got down on one knee and officially popped the question.

Thankfully, his emotional-wreck of a girlfriend (we would be too, frankly) said “yes!” – with Ed (bless him) cheering manically in the background, while simultaneously wiping away his own tears.

Mr Sheeran later took to Twitter to share the moment with his fans, admitting that he “welled up”.

We’re welling up right now, Ed.

Ed Sheeran has just finished the South American and Australian legs of his world tour, but he has a long way to go yet.

With a series of dates in the US and Europe (including Dublin!) lined up, the singer has revealed that he has had to take serious care of his voice after some "scary"  vocal chord damage over the last few weeks.

Back in March the singer told fans via Twitter that he had been put under doctor's orders to communicate only via whiteboard in order to rest his voice between shows.

Now the Thinking Out Loud hitmaker has opened up about his vocal issues, saying that air-conditiing in Australia really wreaked havoc on his voice.

"It was scary. It was a difficult tour in that respect, a lot of air conditioning and a lot of flying dries you up," the singer admitted.

Ed even revealed that he had had to alter his setlist to avoid pushing his voice to high notes. "I had to be more sensible than I usually am. One [of my hit songs] was in [the setlist] but because my voice went, I couldn't do falsetto. It had to come out … It'll be different when I come back to Australia in December," he told Sydney's Daily Telegraph.

Despite his voice issues, the singer seems keen to move on with his tour, taking to Twitter yesterday to thank South American fans for their dedication and to celebrate the start of the North American gigs.

"South america tour is done ! really enjoyed myself, thanks for the love. american tour starts in 2 days, bring it on," he wrote.

We really hope Ed's voice is back on track for Croke Park…

Famed for teenpop classics such as Live While We’re Young, and What Makes You Beautiful – One Direction’s Liam Payne has made a surprising revelation about the band’s forthcoming album.

“The album is coming together really well actually,” he told Capital FM earlier this week. “It’s a bit Oasis almost – which is ace. Love that.”

And as well as drawing on the musical talents of Liam and Noel Gallagher, Mr Payne added that they’re also finding inspiration in Ed Sheeran: “The songs have come out a bit more chilled because we want this to be a long-lasting album that you just can listen to anytime,” he explained.

“You know with Ed’s album you can listen to it anytime – anytime you throw on an Ed song it always makes sense. So we’re trying to do that.”

The former X Factor contestants are currently working with writer and producer Jamie Scott – the man behind the likes of Story Of My Life – and have been working hard in the studio to get their fifth album together; their first offering since Zayn Malik departed last month.

Indeed, in the midst of a hectic touring schedule, One Direction’s management are pushing to get the finished produce out there before the end of the year. Although a release date has yet to announced, it is rumoured that late November has already been earmarked.
