Mega congratulations are in order for Janet Jackson: the 50-year-old has just given birth to her first child, a boy.

The pop superstar and her husband, Wissam Al Mana, have named their son Eissa Al Mana.

The happy news has now been confirmed in a statement to People magazine.

"Janet had a stress-free healthy delivery and is resting comfortably," the statement added.

You're missing me, I'm missing you… I'll be rescheduling our Unbreakable shows in Europe as soon as I can. Xoxo

In April, the That’s The Way Loves Goes singer cancelled a planned world tour – admitting in a video posted to YouTube that she wanted to take some time out to start a family.

She only confirmed she was expecting in October, and has largely removed herself from the spotlight during her pregnancy.

Janet did, however, take to social media in November to reassure fans that she was “well”.

"Hey you guys… It's been awhile,” she wrote. “But I'm still listening. I feel your love and prayers. Thank you… and I'm doing well."

Her older brother, Jermaine, said before his nephew’s birth that Ms Jackson will be "a great mother because she is very tough, very strict".

He added: "But I tell her, 'If you need any parenting skills or baby skills, let me know because I'm the best diaper changer there is on this planet, still to this day’."
