Revealed: The worrying reason behind Emma and Andrew’s split
We're still reeling from the news that Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield had parted ways, and this latest revelation has made everything all the more real.
It was reported last week that the couple had been taking some time apart to figure things out after three years together. Rumours of a split first kicked off when Emma attended the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards – both times as a nominee – without Andrew at her side.
Now sources close to the couple have confirmed that they are indeed on an extended break, due to a number of reasons.
"They had been fighting a lot and they hadn't seen each other. They have both been working but they weren’t getting along," a source close to the pair told Us Weekly.
It's thought one of the main problems between the star couple was Andrew's "method acting" approach to his latest part in Martin Scorcese's new film, Silence, currently being filmed in Taiwan. Andrew plays a Jesuit priest who faces violent persecution as he travels to Asia to spread the teachings of Christianity.
“He’s very in his character,” another source told Us. “He's lost weight, and he's in a dark place mentally for his performance and he's not boyfriend material right now."
Emma has been equally busy with her role in Cabaret on Broadway – though we imagine it's a slightly more cheerful project than Andrew's!
The couple first began dating in 2012 after meeting on the set of The Amazing Spider Man, where they played onscreen love interests Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.
We hope they can work things out…
