Facebook's "On This Day" and "Year In Review" reminders are an amazing way to look back on past celebrations and milestones. We have all definitely shared a giggle with friends over the state of our disastrous teenage disco outfits.

So, while we have the nifty features to remind us of some of the fun times of the past, that is not always the case.

Sometimes, Facebook can miss the mark. You can end up feeling less amused and just more ashamed from some past experiences that made their way onto social media.

Now the company is offering a way to keep sad and unpleasant (or downright cringeworthy) memories from resurfacing in these nostalgia-inducing reminders.

Head to the Facebook "On This Day" page here. This page actually shows you posts you've made, photos you've uploaded, and friends you've made on that day. It can be pretty funny.

Then, click on Preferences in the upper right-hand corner. In the pop-up menu you now have the option to filter out people or dates you would prefer not to be reminded of.

It may not be the most sophisticated option, but it does the job. Right now, Facebook just isn't smart enough to know everything about you and your status updates- thankfully, because that might get a touch invasive.

At least now you have the option to block out posts from surfacing that might include your ex.

A Dublin-based flooring company has had one of its billboards labelled ‘distasteful’ and ‘transphobic’.

The billboard in question, which appeared on social media, features a photograph of Caitlyn Jenner alongside the phrase ‘Fancy a Change?’

Hamptons Floor Store posted images of the billboard on Facebook and subsequently it sparked quite a fierce debate.

While some commenters had called the billboard, which also features the hashtag #GetLaid, distasteful others noted that it was nothing more than a clever marketing campaign.

The hashtag has featured in previous advertisements of the company. A spokesperson for Hamptons Floor Store told TheJournal.ie that the billboard is “more of a celebration of the new Ireland that we’re in, given the passing of the (marriage equality) referendum – which we were very supportive of”.

A spokesperson for the TENI the Transgender Equality Network Ireland was not of the same opinion. They also told TheJournal.ie:

“Hamptons Floor Store’s intentions with this ad may have been good, but the execution is misguided and would have benefited from the input of TENI and the trans community.”

Previously, the company managed to get people talking when they displayed this billboard prior to the marriage referendum:

When we hear someone is going through a bad time, it's only natural to want to sympathise, but social media doesn't always make it easy.

Until now, the only way to interact with a post on Facebook – aside from commenting – was to 'like' it, which wasn't always appropriate for posts containing sad or even tragic news.

Facebook are finally giving us new ways to respond to posts, meaning now we'll be able to say 'Wow,' 'Love,' 'Haha, 'Yeah, or show we're 'Sad' or 'Angry,' all with the click of a button.

Irish users could be able to use the new feature as early as tomorrow, as we've been chosen along with Spain to test out the addition.

The new 'Facebook Reactions' will show up as emojis, with each one representing a different response.

Not to worry though, as the humble 'like' will still remain intact:

Last month Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg hinted that a 'dislike' button was in the pipeline, though it seems he's gone with a more varied option.

"People have asked about the 'dislike' button for many years," Mark said at a Q&A session at Facebook's California HQ.

"Probably hundreds of people have asked about this, and today is a special day because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it, and are very close to shipping a test of it."

Like. Or should we say Haha/Wow/Yeah…

Today we’re launching a pilot test of Reactions — a more expressive Like button. As you can see, it’s not a “dislike”…

Yesterday Ashy Murphy uploaded a home video to Facebook and since then it has been viewed over 8 million times.

No, unfortunately it was not one of those adorably cute videos of puppies running or toddlers dancing to Bruno Mars. Instead Ashy took a video while she was at her aunt’s house in Blackrock, Cork of some very strange activity happening.

The video has been shared almost 200,000 times on Facebook since it was uploaded and it is not the only one that Ashy has shared. While similar things happen in both videos, there are both still equally freaky.

The internet feels a bit suspicious of Ashy’s poltergeist claims, but that does not make it any less creepy.

Sometimes it's the small things that make the difference.

Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg announced this week that the website was finally getting a 'dislike' button. It's something users have demanded for years, and the tech mastermind is finally giving in.

"People have asked about the 'dislike' button for many years," Mark said at a Q&A session at Facebook's California HQ this week.

"Probably hundreds of people have asked about this, and today is a special day because today is the day that I actually get to say we are working on it, and are very close to shipping a test of it."

Mark insists the 'dislike' function won't be there simply for people to 'downvote' posts, but more to show sympathy or pity in times when a 'like' feels insensitive.

That's all well and good, but there are definitely a few less sombre posts/people we wouldn't have been able to resist 'disliking'. For example…

1. This girl who REALLY should have thought before she typed

2. This grammar mix-up (or someone who just LOVES manors).

3. This user who can't get his head around maps that aren't Google-enabled

4. This girl who probably needs to check out a map herself

5. This 'trippy' badminton racquet… not.

6. This poor lad who is about to spend the next 18 hours on the toilet bowl

7. This dude who definitely skipped a few History classes

8. This 'inspiring' quote

9. This cheeky fecker

10. This mum who definitely spoke too soon

This complaint will certainly brighten up your day!

Billy Cunningham from Kent was shocked to find his meal deal offer invalid as he went through the self service till in Tesco.

He was so disappointed that he wrote a letter of complaint on Facebook that was so melodramatic, it caught everyone by surprise.

To make matters even more hilarious, Tesco replied with an even better responce to Billy.

Our faith in humanity is restored!

First Instagram, now Facebook is following the shopping online suit.

The social network will not only be the place where you stalk your boyfriend's ex; but also where you can make regrettable impulse buys late at night.

Yes, Facebook are now making it possible to shop from your favourite stores though the site.

The website is launching a few new features for businesses that will make them easier to shop through your phone.

First, they're testing a Call To Action button on certain pages that will practically shout at you to shop in their store. They are also set to feature a new Shop Now button.

As well as that, they're allowing pages to have specific tabs titled Shop and Services

The Services tab is like seeing the full menu of a restaurant – you still have to go through the company to make a purchase, but it's a shortcut all the same to help figure out where you want to shop, eat or get a mani-pedi.

The Shop tab will let retailers showcase their products through the site, and let customers pay with the handy Shop Now button. Easy!

At this point, the shopping section of the app will pop up gradually throughout the next few months, so be careful next time you go on Facebook after a few too many glasses of wine.

Not only your head but you wallet will hurt come morning.

Parents and Facebook are generally a hilarious combination.

If they're not embarassing you, then they are probably making you laugh so hard you cry. Sometimes the levels of sass they exhibit make even the wildest of celebritie 'feuds' look pretty tame.

These are just some of the social media titans that had enough of their kids antics and put their foot down. We imagine ther are many more out there just waiting to be uncovered.

This dad believes honesty is the best policy:

This dad who is just trying to enforce proper grammar:

This mom who isn't afraid to tell her son the truth:

This mom who almost broke the internet. Almost:

And this mom, who clearly has no issue picking favourites:

The Queen of Facebook has been announced, according to the Guinness Book of World Records at least.

In the 2016 edition Colombian singer Shakira holds the record for the most ‘liked’ person on the social media website.

She has gathered 107,142,986 ‘likes’ making her the most liked individual. In second place comes Christiano Ronaldo with 102,782,118 ‘likes’. Shakira however has more likes only than two other pages on the site.

One of them is Facebook itself, and the other is Facebook for Every Phone which has 547,111,981 ‘likes’.

This isn’t the first time the singer has broken the record. Since July 2014 she’s held the title and became the first person to attract over 100 million likes on an official Facebook page.

Earlier this year Shakira had her records framed and shared a photo of them with her fans, on Facebook, naturally.

Other celebrities who have broken records this year include Taylor Swift and Jay-Z.

TSwift has the record for the “most million-selling weeks on U.S albums charts (three)” for the first-week sales of her albums Speak Now, Red and 1989.

Jay-Z also has “most debuts at No.1 on the U.S album chart by a rap artist” with a total of 13.

The American series of The Voice also holds the record for the “most-tweeted TV series in one minutes.” During the show’s live episode in May 2014 they set the record with 310,000 tweets during the semi-final.

When one beauty blogger found black dots on a blender sponge, she decided to investigate further.

Little did Stevie Miller know then what she was about to unearth: a half a dozen beetle-like creatures that had seemingly buried their way into the item.

With her mother looking on via Sky, she documented the examination on camera. The resulting clip was then posted to her Facebook page and has now been viewed 1.5million times.

The 20-year-old, who hails from Suffolk, uses a tweezers and scissors to dissect the beauty blender – a pink sponge applicator which she had recently ordered from the US.

"I realised there was a slight hole in it, which confused me endlessly as I'd only just got it," she explains to the camera.

"I did a little digging, and found two, very obscure strange bugs living inside my beauty blender.

"They'd been there the entire time, and they were strange-looking."

Holding one of the larger creatures to the camera, Stevie declares that she will be "sending the video to the maker of beauty blenders and say you need to make them bug-proof".

Ms Miller concludes with: "I'm probably going to get some skin disease now and will never be able to leave my flat again.

"I need a shower, I need bleach, I need Jesus."

Never buy a beauty blender from another country.

We've probably ALL made a social media mishap of sorts: you share something you shouldn't; you get caught out stalking an ex; you post a totally ill-advised image.

But hey – it always could be worse.

Recently, BuzzFeed asked its readers to share with the US-based website their worst online errors: and here at SHEmazing! we just had to pick-out the nine best ones – if nothing else, let these be a lesson to us all.

Prepare to cringe…

1) I went on two dates with a girl I liked. I decided to stalk her family on social media in the middle of the night and I accidentally added her mother as a friend.

Her mother accepted.

2) You know how Ron Burgundy says, “Well that escalated quickly”? In the sixth grade I accidentally posted on my sister’s Instagram photo “Well that ejaculated quickly.” I’ve never been more embarrassed.

3) Once when I was talking to a guy in private messages I got my screens mixed up and announced to EVERYONE on Facebook how large my penis is and what I like to do sexually. My mother saw it. I stayed off Facebook for a month solid.

4) A girl I know was once trying to drunk Facebook-stalk her boyfriend’s ex. She woke up in the morning to find that instead of searching the girl’s name she’d just made it her status over and over again. They broke up.

5) Not my fail per se, but my mother “accidentally” Facebook friended the woman my ex-boyfriend married. She accepted. I’m mortified.

6) When I first made a Facebook, I saw where you can post a status, I thought this meant relationship status…. So my first Facebook post was the word “single”.

7) When I was in high school, a very popular teacher got arrested for having multiple affairs with some of my classmates, and the day she got arrested I went to search for her name but instead set it as my status.

I didn’t realise my mistake until I was called in to the principal’s office and was asked if I knew specific details about the ordeal.

8) I stalked my co-worker’s Instagram and went through every photo. Next week, she went private and I asked her about it at work. She gave me a weird look and said “I don’t remember telling you about my Instagram”.

9) About a year ago I was Snapchatting this super cute guy I had just started talking to. I had just sent something to the guy when I got a Snapchat from my best friend saying she was eating chocolate chip cookies.

So naturally, I made the most hideous, obnoxious face I could and the caption said “soft or hard?” because I prefer the soft kind and she prefers the crunchy kind. I clicked the name at the top of my friends list and hit send when I realized to my horror I had sent it to the cute guy.

Picture that, you open a Snapchat from a girl you’re talking to and its just the most obnoxious picture that’s captioned “soft or hard?” I wanted to explain but I realised I didn’t have his number…

Has Facebook asked you for your number yet?

If you thought the only way to get rid of that annoying notification was to submit your digits then think again.

A British software engineer has discovered that by adding their number to the site, people are making it easier for others to find and share their information online.

Reza Moaiandin used a coding script to generate every possible phone number in the U.S, Canada and the U.K. He then sent millions of the number to Facebook’s app-building programme.

In return he was able to then receive millions of personal profiles completely unblocked.

Any data that Facebook users have made viewable by the public was accessible to Reza whether he was friends with them or not, or even through friends of friends.

Some of this personal data included not only individual’s phone numbers but also their addresses, birthdays and relationship statuses.

He told the Mail Online: 'With this security loophole, a person with the right knowledge can harvest the non-private details of the users who allow public access to their phone numbers, enabling the harvester to then use or sell on the user details.”

Facebook then told him that they do not consider this a “security vulnerability” as they have controls in place to “monitor and mitigate abuse”.

Ultimately it appears the responsibility always lies with the user. We just know that we’ll be keeping some things to ourselves.

Can you imagine if that questionable ex from your past managed to get your new number? Nope. No thank you.
