It's something you've probably done yourself without thinking, but it can have real and very serious consequences,

New photos released by the Dublin Fire Brigade this morning show just how dangerous it is to leave charging devices unattended, especially on duvets or under pillows.

The photos, which show an apartment bedroom in the Islandbridge Dublin 8 area, were taken after a charger left on the bed overheated and caused a fire.

"A fire in Islandbridge last night caused by a charging device on a duvet. Be safe, bed+gadgets don't mix," staff of the DFB captioned the photo.

Visible on the mattress is a charred hairdryer and what looks like the remains of a mobile phone.

The DFB often turns to social media to warn users of possible causes of house fires. Shortly before Christmas, staff released these photos, of a room destroyed by a Christmas tree fire:

Stay safe, ladies.

A tiny terrace fire overtook an entire skyscraper in Dubai yesterday evening, with thousands fleeing for safety as The Address Hotel went up in flames.

It's thought 16 people were injured in the fire, which took 3.5 hours to be put under control. Original reports suggested one person had died in the blaze but this was not officially confirmed.

The entire left side of the 63-storey hotel, which is located near the famous Burj Khalifa, was destroyed when the fire broke out around 5.30pm local time yesterday.

This photo shows what's believed to be the origin of the blaze – a small fire on a covered terrace on a lower part of the building.

Earlier this morning, smoke could still be seen pouring from the building, which thankfully did not collapse in the fire.

Irishman Kenneth Flynn told The Telegraph how he briefly got lost from his girlfriend in the chaos as people tried to escape the burning building.

"I went outside to have a look and by the time I walked out the whole building was just ablaze. The heat was so intense outside.

"By the time I came back in I had lost her [his girlfriend] because the whole place was in panic and people were crushing each other trying to get out and get down the stairs and jumping over railings, I couldn’t believe how fast it actually happened."

First of all, these toys aren't really hoverboards. It doesn't hover – it acts as a sideways skateboard, with wheels, but it doesn't hover.

We just wanted something like Marty McFly had a little bit too much, and this is what they came up with instead.

But one of these popular toys turned out to be something quite scary over the week. In a shopping centre in Houston, Texas, there was stall in the middle of the centre selling a few toys, including the so-called hoverboard.

But then one of the hoverbords exploded and caught on fire, causing the whole shopping centre to be evacuated. Some even thought the noise coming from the toy was a bomb, reports news station ABC 13.

The fire was quickly put out by the shopping centre's security team and thankfully, no one was injured.

Let's just say we'll stick to cosy jumper for Christmas from now on.

When it comes to cooking (or everything in life, really) we love a good shortcut – and there are so many genius hacks out there to help the cooking-challenged among us.

But some hacks can be more successful than others, and some can turn out to be super dangerous too.

Just take this sideways toaster shortcut that is supposed to make a mean grilled cheese. One woman tried it and it turned out to be a VERY terrifying ordeal.

One unfortunate woman from the UK, Suzanna Dale, saw the hack online and decided to try it. But as you can see, her plan went disastrously wrong.

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME… !!! …Saw a tip on FB about turning your toaster on it's side for toasted cheese…..thought…

Posted by Suzanne Dale on Wednesday, 18 November 2015

Suzanne told the Manchester Evening News that her toaster burned for about 20 minutes. She also proceeded to throw the toaster out of her kitchen window.

"They were real flames, it could be dangerous," she said. Lesson learned – DO NOT try this at home.

Turning on the heat can be pricey – not to mention not particularly good for the environment either.

But for the days that you just can’t get cosy, or for the friend who NEVER seems to be warm (they know who they are) thesun.co.uk today has some great tips for achieving a satisfactory level of toastiness WITHOUT having to constantly crank up the thermostat…

Suffice to say, SHEmazing! is a big fan of ALL of the below…

1) Watch TV

The heat given off by home appliances such as the TV and fridge could be enough to keep the house warm if you have decent insulation, experts say.

Indeed, according to Max Fordham, a leading engineering consultant, effective insulation could keep houses warm all year round – making central heating only necessary on the very coldest days.

2) Make flowerpot heaters

Ditch the expensive electric heater and make your own DIY version using just a few candles and a flowerpot.

These nifty, home-made devices can hit more than 80C and take just five minutes to make. Warning – make sure you buy terracotta and NOT plastic pots.

3) DIY draught excluder

It’s not just chimneys that let in chilly draughts – windows and doors are also a hotspot for cold air seeping into your house.

“Sausage dog” draught insulators can be rested at the bottom of doors and windows to stop heat escaping from the room.

4) Block up your chimney

Having fireplaces that are just for decoration is common in many households now, and if you’re not using yours make sure you fit a chimney balloon or insulator.

Costing less than €30, the balloon will keep warm air in the house and stop a draught coming in down the chimney.

5) Cover bare floorboards

Putting rugs down and covering up bare floorboards can reduce heat loss by up to 10 percent.

6) Close curtains

One of the easiest ways to keep a room warm and stop cold air flooding in from outside is to close curtains and trap it out. Pulling the curtains can reduce heat loss from 15-17 percent and save you bundles of cash on the central heating bill.

Wooden flooring causes a lot of heat loss, so if you don’t have carpets one of the simplest ways of heating up a room is to lay down rugs and blankets.

7) Let sunlight in

While closing the curtains will keep warm air in, it’s also important to leave them open during the day so the sunlight can warm up the room.

Closing the curtains as soon as dusk falls will maximise your house’s potential to retain the heat it’s generated from daylight – even if it’s cold outside!

8) Strategically place shelves

Putting a shelf above a radiator, especially if you have high ceilings, can help channel warmth throughout the room.

While putting a shelf above a radiator helps spread heat, putting things on the radiator will trap warm air and stop it spreading to the room.

As if Friday rush-hour traffic in our capital city wasn't bad enough – the Port Tunnel is currently closed in BOTH directions.

A northbound truck which went on fire a little after 7am is responsible for the disruption, with emergency services – including ten fire extinguishing vehicles – being called to the scene earlier today. The truck has been removed from the scene.

It has been reported that one man was taken to the nearby Mater hospital, and while there are no details of his condition, it is not thought his injuries are life-threatening.

Smoke could at one stage been seen billowing from the tunnel's entrance, but the flames have since been extinguished and engineers are on site to access the damage caused.

Unsurprisingly, traffic remains "very heavy" in the aftermath – a particular concern for anyone trying to make it to Dublin Airport for a morning flight.

Many reports on social media say that the roads surrounding the area and in the city centre are at a "standstill."

Via Twitter, the Dublin Fire Brigade highlighted that fire in an enclosed space presents an "extreme danger".

Many commuters reported that it took them four or five times the usual time to travel to their places of work.

Rachel Last told independent.ie that it took her more than an hour to travel just 6.5km.

"I live in Swords – I used the back roads to get out when I left my home at 7.20am this morning.

"I then drove to Coolock to drop my son at my mother's before driving to the village where I got on a bus at 8am.

"We drove for five minutes on the Malahide Road. We are now stuck in traffic at the Marino Fairview junction. We have been stuck here for at least 20 minutes.

"I spoke to another woman on the bus and she has been on it since 7.25am.

"People are getting off the buses on the Malahide Road and are walking the two or three miles [3-5km] to the city centre to get work," she said.

Following a fire in Dublin airport this morning, flights were temporarily suspended.

According to the official Dublin Airport Twitter account, a fire broke out in one of the hangers in the early hours of this morning. They tweeted saying: "Airport fire crew @DublinAirport attending to fire in one of the hangars. Flight operations temporarily suspended."

Thankfully, the fire was kept under control by the fire fighters on site and there "are no reports of any injuries following this morning's fire in a hangar. The fire has now been contained."

For anyone flying today, flight operations have now resumed in Dublin airport following the fire but you are still advised to check in with your airline before heading to the airport.

Ryanair have left a link on their Twitter account so you can check the status of your flight for today. Some knock-on delays are expected through-out the day.

Alexis Knapp, who stars alongside Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson in Pitch Perfect has had her home destroyed following fire yesterday.

Alexis also mum to a three-year-old daughter, Kailani, with fellow actor, Ryan Philippe.

Thankfully, Alexis and her daughter were not home at the time but one firefighter has been left injured. TMZ report that it required 30 fire trucks and 75 firefighters to help put the fire out.

The blaze allegedly began after Alexis left her home but forgot to put out a lighting candle.

The building is now registered as inhabitable until further notice.

This is so frightening and just another reason why it is so important to put candles out before leaving our home or going to bed at night.

We REALLY don’t like the sound of this!

An ASOS warehouse the size of six football pitches has been badly damaged by a fire, forcing the online fashion giants to stop taking orders.

Gulp!

Both the UK and Irish websites have been down since this morning because of the blaze that started last night, and ASOS released a statement saying it would not be active again until the extent of the damage was assessed.

It’s been reported that close to 10 million boxes of clothes were destroyed in the fire.

If you try now to visit the site for your weekend browse, you will see this message:

“Dear Customers,

We have pressed pause on the ASOS website, this is due to a fire in our Barnsley distribution centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Thankfully no one was hurt and we expect to be back to normal for you in the next day or so. So please hold on to your orders, we will be back with you soon. ASOS x”

More than 60 firefighters tackled the blaze through the night, which is believed to have spread from the second floor to the third and fourth floors.

In a statement, the company said no new orders were currently being taken and existing orders yet to be shipped, would also be delayed.

Police and fire officers have started an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
