After years of watching our mothers fall on an icy G&T with the same excitement we reserved for a white Magnum, we suddenly realised what all the fuss was about.

And after graduating from warm cans of cider and flat beer, we discovered gin… and never looked back.

And while some SHEmazing! HQ  ladies – who shall remain nameless – consider themselves total connoisseurs, it turns out they’re not as clued-up as they think when it comes to what makes a great gin.

Thankfully for us, however, Aldi definitely is.

Boyle’s Premium Small Batch Irish Gin, which will be sold exclusively in Aldi stores nationwide as of today, has just won the coveted Best Irish Gin Award at the Irish Whiskey Awards 2016.

Commenting on the selection process, the judging panel said: ““Every year we see more and more releases in the Irish craft gin sector.”

“The quality of some of these products is outstanding and it demonstrates the skills of the new breeds of distillers around Ireland. Made by Blackwater Distillery in Waterford, our judges were impressed by Boyle’s fruitiness and balance.”

Coming in at €24.99, we’re stocking up and celebrating the Bank Holiday weekend in style.

Ever been so worse for wear that even ordering a takeaway feels like effort?

Well, at long last the heroes at Domino’s have found a solution.

The pizza giant has launched a new facility which allows customers to order food through Facebook simply by messaging the word “PIZZA” to a contact called “Dom”.

“Dom” – who is in fact an artificially intelligent chatbot – enables Facebook users to satisfy their cravings near instantaneously by automatically ordering a user’s favourite pizza upon receiving the word “PIZZA” or – if you’re really suffering – its emoji equivalent.

To get set up, all you need to do is open an “Easy Order” account with Dominos and link it to your Facebook profile.

Then, open your messages, find “Dom” and let him take care of the rest.

Sundays just got a whole lot better.

If there’s one thing we love more than a festival devoted to food, it’s a festival devoted to drink.

Whether we’re supping it, learning about it or playing games based on it, we’re open to any event which honours the best spirits, beers, wines, bubbles, coffees and sodas in the world.

Thankfully for us, we can do all three at Tippletown – Brewtonic’s three day festival in Dublin – next month.

Kicking off on November 18 and running until November 20, WigWam on Middle Abbey Street will become a veritable haven for beverage-lovers, and we are totally on board.

From talks given by the Irish Craft Cocktail Awards to Brewtonic Beer Pong and much, much more, this festival has something for everyone.

With Halloween long behind you by the time the festival kicks off and Christmas still five weeks away, this is the perfect way to break up the monotony of winter!

See y’all there.

Earlier this year London gained itself a restaurant with a difference when The Bunyadi stripped open its doors in Elephant and Castle.

Offering diners the opportunity to eat completely naked, the adventurous pop-up quickly became a resounding success and so its owners have decided to spread the nude experience.

According to the Evening Standard, the venue’s founder, Seb Lyall, is currently hunting for a new site in the British capital to allow more foodies the unique opportunity to dine naked by candlelight.

As with the pilot project, diners will be given a locker and robe before having their phones confiscated.

They will then be seated at a discreet table, where they can choose to protect their dignity or drop the robe altogether.

They mightn’t be that common in Ireland, but with their gooey textures and chocolate flavours S’mores have to be one of the world’s greatest comfort foods.

And with doughnuts dominating the food porn channels in recent months, it was only a matter of time before some genius created the S’mores doughnut.

Featuring melted chocolate, puffy marshmallows and golden graham crackers, the S’mores doughnut is the latest must-try dessert trend to appear online.

While we have yet to find somewhere stocking these culinary delights in Ireland, we did come across an easy follow recipe by The Kitchy Kitchen which will allow you to create S’mores doughnuts at home.

Enjoy!

If you – like us –  find yourself lying about the number of coffees you get through in a day, the good folk from the world of science are here to tell us that we no longer have to live a lie.

While your friends and co-workers reach for their second litre of water and you guzzle down your fourth flat white, experts in the field suggest you stop hiding you habit and start boasting about the benefits.

According to a recent study, your coffee habit will stand to you in the future, with findings suggesting that women over 65 who drink two or three cups of coffee per day reduce the risk of dementia by a third.

With the help of almost 6,500 women, researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee established that caffeine consumption of more than 261 mg per day was associated with a staggering 36 per cent reduction in the risk of dementia.

"The mounting evidence of caffeine consumption as a potentially protective factor against cognitive impairment is exciting given that caffeine is also an easily modifiable dietary factor with very few contraindications," lead author Professor Ira Driscoll explained.

"What is unique about this study is that we had an unprecedented opportunity to examine the relationships between caffeine intake and dementia incidence in a large and well-defined, prospectively-studied cohort of women."

The study's authors explain that the level of caffeine recorded in the study equate with two to three 8-oz cups of coffee per day, five to six 8-oz cups of black tea, or seven to eight 12-ounce cans of cola.

Get thee to the local cafe, ladies!

We all know the devastation that comes with dropping a much coveted piece food on the floor, so naturally on occasion we have employed the Five Second Rule.

But unfortunately for those of us who’ve justified the consumption of fallen food with the argument that it “barely touched the floor”, a two-year study has found that no matter how little time food spends on your kitchen tiles it will undoubtedly pick up bacteria.

According to The New York Times, the recently published results of the New Jersey based study which tested four different types of foods – cut watermelon, bread, buttered bread and gummy candy – on four different types of surfaces – stainless steel, ceramic tile, wood and carpet – for periods of one, five, 30 and 300 seconds show that no fallen food escaped contamination.

While the research did show that the longer the food spent on the ground the more bacteria it picked up, the main microbiologist involved said that “bacteria can contaminate instantaneously”.

The surfaces which transferred the most germs were tiles and stainless steel, while the food which absorbed the most bacteria was watermelon because of its moist texture.

So all those seemingly grand bits of toast, pasta, doughnuts and cake that bounced from the floor right into our bellies were well and truly – shudder – contaminated.

Everyone knows that doughnuts are pretty much the food porn masters of 2016, so naturally we were over the moon to hear that Krispy Kreme is finally coming to Dublin.

Already widely available across the US and UK, Irish fans of the renowned doughnut franchise were left devastated last year when a fake page announced that Krispy Kreme was coming to the capital, only for the brand itself to later announce that it had no plan to open an Irish store.

But it now looks like KK has had a change of heart as the Irish Times has reported that the American doughnut chain is planning to please Irish bellies in the near future and is already considering Liffey Valley and Blanchardstown shopping centres as potential destinations.

While it is still unclear as to when Krispy Kreme will actually arrive, any step towards getting those delectible doughnuts here is more than welcome.

There are days when we want a treat, and are more than happy to indulge.

And then there are days when we really don't want to succumb to our cravings, and yet we can't find a good enough reason to resist them.

If this sounds at all familiar, you're not alone.

Researchers studying the link between nutrition and emotion have ascertained that individuals who are more in tune with their emotions were better placed to choose the healthier snack.

According to the Journal of Marketing, researchers gave one group of people a course on nutrition as well as a course on recognising emotions in themselves and others while a second group were given only a course in nutrition.

Following the courses, both groups were offered a selection of snacks and while the former opted for the healthier choice, the latter plumped for the less healthy.

Researchers believe that their study proves an individual can train themselves to lose weight if they educate themselves on the emotional aspect involved in consumption.

"The authors developed an ability-based training program to strengthen people's ability to focus on goal-relevant emotional information." the paper read.

"They demonstrate not only that emotional ability is trainable and that food choices can be enhanced but also that it improves food choices beyond a nutrition knowledge training program," it added.

So there you have it, weight loss comes down to more than just knowing the calorie content of every item in you kitchen cupboard.

She’s joked about weight loss, gotten real with her stretch marks and has even blocked Piers Morgan on Twitter – yes, it’s safe to say there are many reasons Chrissy Teigen is already our ultimate girl crush.

But now the 30-year-old model has gone and given us Irish one HUGE reason to love her forever more as she has publicly declared that our butter is “awesome”.

Amid script reading and cookery books, the mother of one’s latest Snapchat story had us rushing for the replay button as we noticed one very familiar product pop onto screens.

That’s right ladies, in a snap captioned “not an ad just really awesome” Chrissy Teigen herself photographed a big ole tub of Kerrygold butter.

Naturally the star’s snap has sent her Irish fans into a tizzy, with one Twitter user summing us all up by writing “CHRISSY TEIGEN USES KERRYGOLD BUTTER UGH QUEEN” in celebration.

So next time you’re layering that golden goodness onto your toast, be sure to remember that that butter has been Chrissy approved.

If you thought you had beaten the system at its own game by ordering a chill G&T instead of a beer or cider when trying to shed some lbs, you may want to sit down before reading on.

According to experts in the field, our favourite tipple  – and the Holy Grail for dieters everywhere – can come in at around 150 calories which is 11 calories more than a full-fat can of Coke.

Yeah, we know – we're devastated too

"Some people assume it is healthier because it is a spirit and you may only use one shot of alcohol but this is still one unit, the same as half a pint of beer and one small glass of wine," said Rob Hobson Head of Nutrition for Healthspan.

Revealing something we all know deep-down, but generally refuse to accept, Rob added: "There is no healthy alcoholic drink unfortunately."

So, we now know that a shot of gin comes in at 75 calories and 250 ml of tonic water equals 150, but what about the sugar content?

According to Rob, a standard G&T can carry 19 grams per serving… and now we're crying.

"You can reduce the sugar and calorie value of gin and tonics by adding sugar-free tonic water, which is a better option," he advised.

"If you are worried about the amount of sugar and calories in your drink then you could stick to a spirit with a low calorie mixer or soda water and flavour it with fruit, vegetables (cucumber) or herbs such as rosemary and mint."

OK fine, pass the damn cucumber.
